Status: offline 		Got a chance yesterday to work on this and start to get a feel for how much throttle is needed. As you stated, Jim, a bit more than a couple clicks, however not much with my throttle curve as is. Nice that it is more predictable this way, and leaving a little power in after the stall gets it started cleanly on the downline with no tail waggle.

Finally I am happy with downline braking with the OS brake @ 75% and with the best prop thus far for my set-up, a Mejzlik 20.5x12WE which Chris finally has in stock now at F3AU. Very wide blade, significantly more so than the PT's and also a bit heavier @ 87 grams.

Status: offline 		Anyone tried the braking with a Hi-Max 210 type outrunner ? More braking without the noise would be great.

Is this ESC suited for this type outrunner.

Very smooth throttle up from idle (brake) to full power with nary a hint of a squeal.

I have used this esc with the himax 210 , no problem had up to I think  about 65 % brake that is more than the 30% I could get on the CC Ice not only in % but in brake , no problem with this

Status: offline 		I made a little pedestal from a balsa block, roughly 1" x 1.5", with a slot through the base of the pedestal through which a zip tie can be threaded. A patch of Velcro on the top of the pedestal and a patch on the ESC, cinch down with a zip tie, and it isn't going anywhere. The nice thing about the balsa pedestal is that it is easy to sand the base so that the contour matches that of the foreward part of the fuse where it is glued with CA or epoxy. If you want to make it look more "hi-tech" just color it black with a Magic Marker.

Status: offline 		A new question . . . is anyone running this ESC with an in-runner/gearbox combo? I did the initial setups for a Hacker C50XL COMP . . 2 pole in-runner with a 6.7:1 gear ration. The OS instructions say 0 to 10 degrees for an in-runner. How do you determine the best final number? Thanks.

Status: offline 		Well, I got the answer (thanks Verne and Andrew), it is 3 degrees. I finally did find a statement in the Hacker catalog that is should be 0-5 degrees, but thanks to the trials and lessons of guys like Jason, Andrew, and Verne, the best number is 3 degrees. Now on to startup and brake settings!

Status: offline 		Start-up I used normal and brake I was using 35% on my Shark (C-50 14XL). Seems the inrunner doesn't need the same brake as the outrunners (85%), or it could be the difference in planes too.

Status: offline 		Need some help from veteran F3a pilots.  I connected the Q80 28 poles (old version) with the new MC9100A under the below setting, but it just don't work out for my ground test.  When I hit the throttle to mid range, glitching sound happened for a few seconds.  Then I keep on hitting up the throttle to about 80%, glittching sound happened again and the RPM started to drop substantially.

Please let me know what should I try on the setting to resolve this sympton ?

ESC:
Battery Type: LiPo
Cutoff voltage: Auto
Battery cutoff type: Soft
Advanced Timing: 25º
Accelerations: Normal ( try high and even highest )
Start Power: Lowest
Air Brake: On, 65%
Motor Pole No: 28
Gear Ratio: 1.0:1

Also, I should further clarified that my Q80 is working in excellent condition, it is because when I connect back my Jeti spin 99 right after the ground test, it just fly like angel.  My prop. size is 21x13.5 and I am using good health hyperion 2 x 5s 5,000mah battery.  I have pre-learned the throttle end point so as using the programmer to do all my setting and sucessfully downloaded ( saved ) the parameters to the ESC.

Status: offline 		Will it be the switching frequency not well matching with the motor?  Q80 recommends 8kHZ but the default output of MC9100A is 32kHZ?

Status: offline 		I noticed the same thing . .. the switching frequency is not adjustable and is fixed at 32khz. The controller works fine with my Hacker C50 Comp in-runner, and Hacker recommends 8khz for it also.

The manual is posted in #15. The frequency is fixed at 32 kHz. If you down load the pictures I have uploaded it’s easier to read.

With only about 3" for the battery wires, has anyone had problem reaching the battery?

I am putting one on a Mystic with A60-7S, and the other one on Abbra with C50-14XL

Anyone has good settings for the ESC for any two of above motors?

I had PWM and timing mixed up - the PWM affects mostly the controller and not the motor - usually we use lower PWM's with controllers to save excess heat in the controller. This one must be designed well enough to handle it and thus doesn't have a PWM setting. Higher PWM should not have a negative effect on the motor.

No problem at all with the Pletty Advance.

Really diggin' a brake that actually works!

I miss the CC log data but it almost doesn't matter because the unit (OS version) is working so well and the model really needs a seriously good brake.

Status: offline 		How do you set up the brake with this ESC? I have the OS version, the programming box would only show 3 settings: slow, normal, and fast. It would not show any % but stops at fast (or slow if I push the arrow button to the other side!) It is in "AIR" type, everything else works normal. I had some issues in the first flight because I didn't program the end points so the ESC would not start the motor, but a quick max throttle / min throttle action solved it. Still cannot get the brake to work....

Status: offline 		When you get to the "Fastest" setting push the "+" key again, it will move to the % readings, change it to what you want and then load the new settings into the ESC. I'm using 65% brake on the Pletty in my Abbra. Seems about right.

For fixed end points, can you program through the programmer?

Not sure how this is done by looking at the manual several weeks ago.
