When I first started to fly, I had the attitude of a crop duster pilot.  I would fly 4 flights back to back. And than on the last flight something would go wrong.  (Dumb Thumbs)
To fix this problem , I take a break . Even if I only get 2 flights in, I go home feeling like a winner.

Another bad - After a 60Hr. week of work, never wake up at 5:00AM Sat. morning, to be at the field by 6:00 !   You will crash.

Somtimes I think a energy drink helps me to be alert.

I often forget to clean my glasses before flying.

I Know you guys know of other ideas for keeping that fresh edge.    Would you mind sharing??

I like taking a rest between flights. I usually bring coffee with me, and if our club kitchen is open I'll buy a soda or chomp on something. I'll sit down and chat with my friends, light up a smoke and relax until I'm ready to take her up again.

There has been a few times I've only flown 2x's because most of the time I was trying to help other people. But when I fly it's usually torwards the end of the day and I only have about 4 hours of flying before it gets dark and we have to lock the gate.

After taking the winter off, don't pick your aerobatic model for the first flights in the spring. Fly something slow and steady for a bit (Kadet Senior is ideal, and fun, too).

I usually try to keep a slow relaxed attitude at the field, when I get there I tell myself to slow down and take my time. Assemble the planes slowly
take your time and relax. I have seen alot of crashes happen on the first flight because the preflight was done and all controls worked but something
was knocked around during transport, or a change was made since the last flight and the plane did not fly correctly, so I do an extended check
before flying.

For me I do a routine after setting up and getting the planes ready, If someone else is flying I watch them to get an idea of the wind so I am mentally
prepared for what I will face. when I am ready to fly I take off and do a few trim passes and make sure the plane feels ok, I usually do a stall turn
into the wind at one end of the field (this gives me an indication of the the wind force) and a loop in the center if all feels ok then I am good to fly
my routines, or practice new maneuvers, or just bore holes in the sky. After landing I bring the plane back and throw the tail strap on it immediately
Time to relax for a bit watch others fly and take a mental break between flights, if at any point in the day I feel like my performance is getting worse
or I am flying behind the plane, it is time to pack it up. Better to lose some flying time that day than to lose a plane.

You've touched on something few think about or are aware of - the mental aspect. It's very important! Go rested and relaxed, this is supposed to be fun.

Don't rush to depart for the field. That's usually when a wing or transmitter gets left behind. A list is even a good idea: spare props, fuel, tools, chair, etc. Best to know thyself and thine vagaries!

Oh, and I don't bring a trash bag with me. Bad karma. I've had a couple dorks, but  no re-kits in several years.

I have seen old pilots going to the field, setting their planes and not flying at all.

I believe that they are sensitive to wild-crazy pilots, because when those are not present, those old pilots just fly nicely and enjoy themselves.

If you are that type, just time the pilots with less than perfect flying manners,.........or wait and watch them crash.

I'm not certain I understand the "crop duster" anology, I hope they don't crash every 4th flight.

But I can relate to flying unrested. Back in the 1990's, I had a twin in the fleet. And I worked rotating shifts. So, I was perpetually tired. And flying twins is a bit different than singles. Its the "thinking mans" kind of flying. I simply would not fly my twin on a Friday afternoon after working two quick turn-arounds. I couldn't think clearly enough and I knew it.

But singles? Really ? How tired must you be that you can't fly a single? After 8 years in the hobby, ( and flying regularly), this should not be an issue for you. If you are having this much difficulty concentrating then consider mentioning this to your doctor. This might be a symptom of something. You might have sleep apnea. This disorder affects a person's sleep and keeps them from getting the rest that they need, (which in turn affects their cognitive abilities). It also affects their red blood count and increases their chances of heart desease, heart attack and stroke. This could also be a symptom of several other deseases. Who knows what it is. But flying models should not cause an experienced pilot to feel as if they must sit down and rest between flights.

I get a surge of adrenaline the first time up, which makes me jittery, so I concentrate more on flying.  After I relax a bit, I get over confident, and one time like that I flew into the barn. DOH.  During flying season I go after work on Tuesdays, and can get a few flights in before it gets too dark.  It really calms me down after a hectic day.

This year I hope to have longer flight times so I can perfect my orientation and landings. I will have at least one gasser and one glow running along with one electric.   The electric I can fly at my house, the other 2 only at the field.

that's a pretty broad statement about singles........i'd venture to say 90% of the modelers out there with 10+ yrs can't handle my Flash (it's single engine) even on their best day, and some can even on their worst day with no problem at all, it's all about the individual.

again, it's dependent on the model in question.

I do try to fly a plane I'm not in love with first. Just gets my fingers and brain in tune. I have flown flight after flight on one plane and just as often gone from one to the other without taking a break. I usually have three or four planes with me when I go out. That doesn't seem to cause any brain farts or crashes. I do take a sit down break between flights most the time though. Just sit down and watch the other guys and do a bit of breeze shooting. I have gotten old enough where I don't need to get in flight after flight, I usually have all day and fly when I feel like it. I'm usually the last one off the field too.
I think for me it's flying the least favorite plane first that sets the tone for my day. That just puts me in the right frame of mind.

Sorry dude, I thought you were asking for yourself. And it sounded as if you were in the present tense. I thought you had a medical issue and didn't realize it.

Sure, for beginners in training, I would agree that a break between flights is a good idea. Take time to absorb lessons from the previous flight, rest and calm down.
