hey guys I picked up a scte with mamba max pro sct all testing has been with no pinion and therefor no load
heres the issue it works intermittent and I cleaned off the board because it was dirty and it started working well again then all leds went out and then they came back on it started working again but was acting very hesitant almost like cogging and it was pulling A LOT of amps the battery and motor wires got relatively HOT over like 5 seconds tops so I unplugged it and came on here. at first I thought it was a radio issue but I tested with a friends radio system and it acts the same way so im starting to think otherwise... and with it acting a fool like it is I'm wondering if it may have got water damaged or something prior the other thing is i pulled the rotor out of the can and it has a slight dent on it barely noticeable but I did... any ideas?maybe time to replace it?

Motor's pulling a lot of amperage if the battery leads are getting hot. How hard is it to turn the motor shaft by hand?

tbj its the 4 pole 1415 2200kv its relatively difficult to spin but I cant see a reason at why it would be difficult to turn. other then the dent I will take a picture of it for tbj since I'm sure he will insist

sorry for the multiple posts but this is the video I calibrated it when i plugged it in then it "armed" and shows full control via led then does not respond I turn the steering and then it actually works then luckily (for videos sake) started "cogging" and then heated up immediately

my friends 5700 kv castle motor was severly overheated and the epoxy that holds the internal windings melted and got on the rotor and pulled some of the internal windings loose. it had the exact same symtoms. would run roughly for a few seconds and get very hot. did you notice anything on the rotor when you first took it apart?

no everything seemed fine with it just epoxy balancing on it but was still there I'm pretty much set on a new system anyway I want to try one of the budget systems I've heard so much about including
Toro 4600
viper 4500
turnigy

however I did email castle about it to see about some help from their support center.

thunderbirdjunkie here are the pics of the motor

It looks like the rotor has been contacting the stator. Is that corrosion or loctite on the screws that hold the endbell on?

went through re-calibrated, reset battery cutoffs and programming set the cut off voltage to 5 volts and it still come up with rapid blinking green and yellow leds after battery was fresh off the charger. I will try and get a known good battery at it as soon as I find them... I was nitro for too long but with my dmm the battery reads 7.4 and the charger picked up that the battery wasn't all gone wish I had a spare esc and motor laying around (even brushed would be nice how I long for the "simplicity" of brushed and 1500 nicads)

but while it was down I did go through and tidy the truck up and fill the diffs with oil and set the suspension up to my liking and remove the bumpers (when its fnished im going to try and make it a "cheater buggy/truggy" 17mm wheels and either 1/2" offset wheels or buggy wheels I've dropped its weight down a lot)
next list of parts to be getting 810 wing and mounts, and 810 axle ends

Does thunderbirdjunkie really think stator is rubbing the rotor?

After thinking about it, no. It's probably just residue from chunky bearings with corrosion inside them getting all over the place. The motor probably needs rebuilt, at best, but the symptoms you're describing were consistent with an MMM/2200 combo ThunderbirdJunkie worked on a wile back with a rotor that was hitting the stator. How do the bearings feel?

Bearings feel great I cleaned and oiled them also the motor feels catchy like an old hot brushed motor not smooth and free spinning like my velociti 6.5 was. But I've heard that's from the 4 pole motor. Otherwise the one thing that is sticking out in my head is the battery but I need to go grab a new one to be sure but I have to wait on the paycheck to come in for it but my damn says batt is 7.4 like it should be... So I'm confused

A battery won't cause the speed control to get hot, period...unless some outside forces ThunderbirdJunkie isn't familiar with are acting on it, like excessive internal resistance. And even then, it's unlikely, it'd just make the car slow.

ThunderbirdJunkie's Castle 4pole was very notchy, similar to his hot rod old Reedy motors, but that's more due to the crazy size/strength of Castle's 4 pole magnets (where they really get their torque; not from being 4 poles).

The 2200 1512 motor ThunderbirdJunkie dealt with felt fairly normal, but it had a little bit of a catch at one spot while turning it.

Tbj I would send it all to you to diagnose but shipping would be the killer :-/ I'm waiting on response from castle but because it's used and been opened up I'm sure no thought of warranty, so here's the predicament if it is the controller gone bad I would need a new controller but at the price for a new controller I'm at the price of a no name brushless system... But I would rather be sure of the problem before shooting in the dark and dropping $$$

Good cheap controller that will do 3-4s and handle the 1415?
And would ohming the motor be a good idea? And what resistance should I be looking for?

No idea, honestly, as far as actual numbers.

ThunderbirdJunkie is banking on something being wrong with the motor itself, the speedo should be fine. In all honesty, sending it to Castle is probably your best bet. If you can, call them tomorrow (they're open 9-6 Central time ITBJRC) and just prod their brains, tell 'em what it's doing. This is definitely not a speedo problem though.

So far ThunderbirdJunkie is digging his DualSky speedo in the B4.1FT, and that 850TF is going to go into either the Savage XS (it has an RX8 now) or his new 4w SCT when it comes in. Mike's running an 850TF in his Hyper12 TT or whatever it is on 3s with a 4000kv 4 pole...so that speedo should handle a 1415 on 2S no problem...but when you can get a Toro 4 pole for $50, why not snag one?

Do you have a known good motor to hook to the speedo to see if it works?

BTW: Shipping could be done with a <$10 priority mail flat rate box. If you're willing to wait a week or so for him to get around to it, ThunderbirdJunkie would gladly take on this endeavor.

Tbj the main problem is I had went to nitro for so long I do not have a motor anymore nor do I know anyone around that has one. I could try the hobby store but that's a drive... For a non guarantee of anyone be willing to let me hook up a motor.

Now im looking at the toros you suggested in another thread the question is 4000kv or 4600kv if racing limited to 2s at my track. So the 4600 is what I'm leaning towards, would a standard 540 be to weak?

The 4000 should be more than enough go-juice for you...the 4600 would be outlandishly ballistic, but more motor than most guys can ever run.

You may want to go down to an 11 or 12

ThunderbirdJunkie is going to seriously recommend the 3900 or 4300 540 4 poles. They'll be easier to keep cool. Or the 550 4000kv.
