Status: offline 		I sure got the ich to build the other day and started building my first SIG kit-the Something Extra this is my first Sig kit and I am surprised that with it being laser cut that some of the parts still dont fit and some areas seam a little weak to me personally I like my Goldburg kits even more now! even great planes kits arent looking so bad - but I do have to say that this plane sure looks like it will be a blast to fly

Status: offline 		well being a kit, can't really expect things to just fall out of the box assembled. Half the fun of kit building is making things fit :-). I am looking forward to my Sig kit hopefully sometime this week or early next.

Status: offline 		i'm forever finishing a sig Smith Mini-plane. most of that is stick built, but i did get a little irritated while building the fuselage sides up and got the part of mounting the cowl. it didn't fit at all around the bottom of the fuse and i had to cut and shave a lot of the wood away from the bottom corners of the fuselage to get it to fit. i was told they knew of the problem, but nothing has been changed in the plans to compensate for it, or a modification to the cowl. 'seriously...' i asked. 'i'm sorry sir' was the response. some kits just leave a little to be desired. i think it's a conspiracy to make people buy a different kit/same brand to see if things are any better than the other. i guess i've been pretty lucky with the GP kits. never any problem with things not fitting, just poor wood sometimes, and one issue i had with one plane building 2 left wings. not sure how that one happened. i'm getting ready to start a TF P-51 gold edition. we'll see how that one turns out. 

i have heard the SSE's are great flyers, though. and a lot of fun. enjoy it.

Correct, laser is just the method used to cut the wood. The fit of the finished product is more about who inked the plans/templates the parts were cut from. There are a lot of things that can make parts not fit as well as they should. There are some problems with die cutting but laser cutting is no guarantee everything is perfect. It's usually just cleaner.

Status: offline 		I believe the expectation of superior fit comes when CAD is used for the drawing medium and then the kit is laser cut. Still it boils down to the skill of the person drawing the files the kit is cut from.

Status: offline 		I just started on a lazer cut short kit. The parts are cut EXACTLY to the plans. The plans leave a lot to be desired about accuracy. It will all fit, but will take a bit to sort out.

Just remember a GOOD carpenter can cover the mistakes...... Well something like that anyway....

Status: offline 		Wood warps. Plans differ between the left and right wings. Too much Titebond warps wood. That's why we have been given sense of humors. Sometimes I lose mine ...
