Troy-I am just starting to put mine together. Where is the CG on yours and were you able to balance by just shifting the batteries around?

Thanks,
Lee

Yes, mine had some nice decals included. I think I am going to have some vinyl graphics made for it. Lee, I will get the CG figures for you. I have been on a cruise and away from the computer for 8 wonderful days.

Today was a perfect weather day. 50 degrees and 10 mph winds. I was able to put 5 flights on the Yak. I leaned the low side slightly on the SE-32 and it's running great. In knife edge flight it pulled toward the gear slightly, so I mixed in 4% of up elevator for both right and left knife edge. I flew the IMAC Sportsman sequence with it and it handled it just fine. I then tried every 3D maneuver that I could think of and it handled everything that I tried. I did 1/2 throttle blenders, full throttle pop tops, upright and inverted walls at 1/2-3/4 throttle. I flew it super hard and it held up fine, I don't think it can be broken in the air. It has tons of rudder authority and does fantastic upright and inverted flat spins, and knife edge spins. It was able to do some really fun knife edge walls with it. It locks into inverted harriers with no wing rock. In upright harriers it has a small amount of wing rock, but if you use a slightly higher throttle setting it goes away. I think a bigger prop will eliminate the wing rock. My only complaint is that I can't seem to get it to fly very tight waterfalls. I have the CG at 5 1/2 inch from the leading edge at the fuse and it's a little nose heavy. On high rates, I have as much throw as the elevators will allow. I am going to take the spinner off which will move the CG back a little and see if it helps with the waterfalls. I think a 19X6 prop will also help, I don't think the 18X6 is enough prop on the SE-32. I am happy with the Yak, it is easy to transport and will fly every maneuver that I have tried with it. If the weather stays this nice, I plan on putting a lot more flights on it.

Today, I took the Yak into the workshop to give it a good once over. Everything is holding up great. The pull-pull cables had streached a little, so I tightened them up and now it's ready to fly again. I was able to add some more down elevator, so this may help tighten up the waterfalls. I also took the spinner off which weighed 3.4 oz. this will move the CG back. This dropped they weight below 12 lbs.

I'm finding that the ball links are extremely tight. Tight to the point that I'm getting some servo binding. Aside from replacing them, is there a way to loosen them up? Did you have this problem?

With them still im place, give them a little squeeze with a pair of pliers. This seats the ball in the plastic and will free them up without slop.

No, the ball links in my kit were very smooth.

Today was a great weather day. 58 degrees and only 15-20 mph winds. I put 4 more flights on the Yak today. I am really enjoying flying it. I am having trouble with my camera, and this video isn't much better quality than the last one. I think it's time to start shopping for a new camera. Thanks to my flying buddy Brian for taking this footage.

I have 30 flights on the Yak now and I am really enjoying it. I switched to some lighter batteries and the weight is now 11 lbs 10 oz. RTF (without fuel). I have the CG at 6" back from the leading edge of the wing (measured at the fuselage.) With this CG, the plane requires just a slight amount of forward pressure on the elevator for inverted flight. The guys at the field yesterday said it was the fastest rolling plane that they had ever seen. I'm having a lot of fun with it.

Lee asked where I cut holes in the bottom of the cowl. Here's the best picture that I have handy. I will take some more pics and post them asap.
Thanks

Troy - thanks for the responses. The problem I was having with the muffler was that the type I had was standing too far off the motor where it mounts to the motor as the mounting flange on the muffler was thick. This would have caused me to cut the side of the cowl which I didn't want to do. I switched to a J'Tec muffler which doesn't have a mounting flange. All is well now. Hoping to maiden next weekend.

Troy- Had my first flights today. Great flying plane. You're right about the roll rate. One of the quickest I've seen. Balanced at 6" like you did and seems to be good at that for the moment. It's a very responsive plane.

Lee, I'm glad your flights went well. I am having a ball with this plane. I take it with me everytime I go to the field. The weather has been great the last couple of weeks, I flew it on three different days last week.

Will do, I'm looking forward to assembling it. As good as the Yak flies, I'm guessing that the Slick being larger will fly even better.
Thanks
