Status: offline 		find out where the pipe will go thru the firewall. use a hole saw and cut your hole. then on the inside of the plane just make a small balsa box around the pipe with space for cooling air. then when you order the pipe see if Dub will make you one modified with an angled outlet. Or you can just use alumiun can and make a 45 degree ramp for the ehaust to flow out on the bottom of the fuselage.

Understand what I am talking about?

I think on Jetts web site there are pics of the Jett engine and muffler installed on a Sundowner that would be very close to what I am talking about.

No need to exit the cowl.

Other alternative ..... is some folks have used the "Toni" setup on the big GP shoestring and toni.


If you can route it inside, you will be much better off.

Status: offline 		Prop if you do run a longer extension over 3/4 to an inch in length see about getting the Gold muffler. You can call Dubb and ask his opinion on this.

The extension will lower the tuning of the Muffler some which might be even better though for this plane.
One of the guys at the field had one this weekend with a 55 and Jett muffler. I think you will need to do a lot to get 125 out of this plane. 115-120 maybe.

Status: offline 		Thanks airraptor. 125 is the goal, however, my secondary goal is to see what I can get out this model with this engine. After that, who knows? A bigger engine, a different airplane? All great fun.

Status: offline 		Well I think a 95 AX with a jett muffler will do very well. I have a 95 AX with Jett muffler that I might let go for a great price. it isnt a stock engine though but can you say 135-140..... Any way shoot an email if interested. I will go run it see what number its puts out and let you know. I juat ran it on 15% it turned a 12x8 at 13,200 13,500. This one unloads around 1,800 on the level and around 2,200 in a shallow dive. I think the muffler is holding it back some now. May try and see if there is a gold muffler to fit it.

One of guys at the field swapped out the 55 and put a 75 AX modded some with a red muffler. turning a 12x7 at 13,900 it was running around 120 or so. didnt have much to compair with though. close to the same speed or a bit faster as a Phonix 7 with a 55 and blue muffler.


Shoot me a email and if interested i can shoot you some pics. I have the engine in a Cermark alley cat and its right around 135-138 in it.

Status: offline 		There is no doubt that the 95AX and Jett muffler would be ballistic. What mods have been done to the engine? I may just optimize my current setup to see what I get before I swap to a bigger engine but feel free to throw some numbers at me.

Status: offline 		Well i will shoot you an email on the engine. we just do our normal mods. Raise and widen exhaust, raised the compression some it runs on 5% nitro, cleaned up the crank and case to flow a bit better. On the 95 you need to use another carb since the stco one we dont open up because the low speed needle draw bar is pressed in. We use the tower 75 carbs that we open up to around .400-.410. Since it is used and modded it will be a great price.

For the stock 55 if going to run the Jett muffler you really need to raise the exhaust timing some and widen the exhaust by about .1-.15 on each side. this is what we conside a stage .5 lol anyway email on its way.

Status: offline 		With the 95 i would think you would easily meet your 125 goal with no dive. I think the 95 would net you 130 and 140 with 120 AX with a 14x14 prop

I'm running the 55 with the Jett red muffler and a 3/8" extension. It pulls the APC 10x9 at about 14200-14400 static. I wouldn't call that a dog.

Big is that APC prop a new one or an old one. most of the APC props there are around 3-4 different molds. Some props have a mold line that is about 3-4mm wide and extends the whole length of the prop on the trailing edge. these props turn around 200-300 less than the smooth ones.

Status: offline 		Fairly new props. I don't think there is a mold line on them, but they are not in front of me right now either. The plane (Kaos) is actually slower with a 10 x 8 or 10 x 7 than with the 9 pitch. The muffler length with the spacer is probably too long for those props.

What Fred did was when a mold would get worn, he would re-mill it to a slightly larger prop. An example would be a worn 9X6 mold would be milled out to a 10X7.  That line is where the new milling started.

That's what happened to my favorite carbon prop mold (discontinued) by Fred's successors

Speed also thanks for the explanation on the mold lines. They do have about a 300 or so rpm drop over the older props. I know how to get the rpm back though..

Last time I ordered from them I was told they had all the parts in house to put together a header for me. I explained that I had a race in a month and he would be saving my race day. I had the foresite to go down to Sheldons and find something I could modify to work otherwise I would have sat around counting laps if you know what I mean. He called Fri before the race to let me know it was ready and did I want it shipped or could I send someone in

Status: offline 		I changed the Shoestring's prop to an APC 10x8, went to 30% heli fuel and put on Jett wheels. I think the Fairfield guys said that the wheels alone would give me an extra 50mph if I understood them correctly! I'm getting 13,700 rpm on the ground with the 10x8. The pipe or Jett muffler would have required considerable surgery to the airframe so I abandoned that idea.
So, we'll see what happens this Saturday at the Carolina Speed Rally. Air temps are gonna be smoking hot at about 100 degrees.
