This is what I have done for the mains and tail wheel for my P-47...........
I managed to get hold of what I would count as a first production run of the pnuematic mains from Robart a few months back ( NOTE : no holes drilled in them for the gear door attachment ).I bought a pnuematic tail wheel set up from TH in the States.
Both mains and tail units use LADO digital actuators.............so it is a "plug and play" set-up,power can be supplied by a normal 6v pack or a 2S Lipo ( which is what I will be using ) and the UC will have it's own power supply.Conversion is pretty easy to do both...........my tail wheel mod,just needing a "little" metal work doing for an extended actuator mounting bracket.

www.e-retract.com ( see for info,I think that LADO are also doing their own complete Electric TW set up for Warbirds etc,looks almost the same as the Robart TW unit.

These digital units can also be programmed to have delays,so you can easily get the "staggered UC look "on up and down !!!

Cool idea on the retracts too NJM !  you just bought the Robart pnumatics and converted with the LAdo elec actuators?


John, what do you think could be the largest gas motor you could fit in this without any mods to the firewall or cutting on the cowl.  Do you think a DLE 55 would bolt up to the firewall and not have to much hanging out of the cowl?

Be nice if the retracts were in scale location. Understand far easier to mass produce with simple spar system. Just my scale prejudices showing

@ Ron101, glad all is good. I am sorry it took as long as it did.

@ njmheli, In speaking with Robart, no units have been deliverd with no holes in the lower strut. I am guessing you have a set of the one that were designed around the original 150 P-47 (green one). Those are slightly different than the new ones. The ones designed for the original did not have holes in the lower strut.

@ lablover, I am pretty sure a 50cc gaser would fit in the cowl all day long. Depending on carb location it may stick out (side mounted carb) and possibly muffler.

@ Peter Oz, yes the gear have been adjusted as we were not interested in $600+ retracts. The real P-47 had the main gear strut decompressurize and collapse during retraction. If we put the main units in the scale location then we would need to duplicate the collapsable strut. Great program for a Top Gun model, but not really for a mass produced ARF. So although not fully scale, they are done very similar to other P-47's on the market.

Status: offline 		Those of you going electric on this baby....How would you think the eflite 160 would compare to a gas setup...I mean, what CC gas would equal the eflite 160?

I want to try electric but would hate to get all the goods and go...YUK, it's too slow.  John, you mentioned the Evo 40 did a fair job at pulling her around.  If you had to do it over, what would you go with.  I'm in Michigan so sea level is not an issue.  I'd like to have some spare speed.  I also don't want to have to try to modify the daylights out of the firewall etc to get a motor to fit.  Any other evo as a drop in choice?

Status: offline 		I love the AXI motors(I have two 2820/10 and 5345-14), but for us here in the USA, that motor is almost twice the cost of the eflight.

Status: offline 		I have 2 20 pound planes flying on e-Flite 160 motors, and ESM-LA-7 that I run on 12S and the older Hanger 9 Razorback that I run off on 10S    Both perform well over scale in climb and speed.  Here are links to some Video of them.    The P-47 has a Bendini Sound System under the cowl.

I have,

ESM 109E
ESM 80" P-39
Fliteskin 109F (unfinished)

basically the 160 is a great motor for planes up to 20 lbs(flying scale) and about 16.5-17lbs for 3d.

Most all of the ESM's smaller line can be flown with a Power 110 or 160(for you speed freaks) alot of their larger 80" planes fly quite well on the 160 as well. I'm currently doing a Lien/Holman 190A8, that if I can keep under 19lbs, I'll put the 160 in as well. If not, I have the AXI 5345-14 for it.

I would imagine the 160 would make this a rocket...what is the AUW? If its under 17, get ready to hover lol

in my opinion the power series motors from Eflite are priced quite well, run like wild beasts, and last.... now thats hard to beat.

Status: offline 		I'm going electric on mine and talked with the guys from aeromodel (hacker dealer) down at the AMA show. They have the older razor back version setup as a demo plane.
I was told if you want a rocket ship go with the HAcker A60-16L with a 20X15 prop... 12s 65c 5000 mah thunder power packs and a Castle ICE 160 HV 2

So that is the setup I bought for mine.... they said it's in the 130 mph range

I have ran hacker motors in many of my planes and just love them! I have the A60-18L on 12s with a 24x 12 prop in a 30% extra, The power is unreal and makes a DA 50 look silly

I also have the AXI 5345/14 in my 26.5 pound GS P-51 on 12s and it's just a beast!! it would be way to much motor for this plane

I'll be sure to get video so you guys can what the set up can do .... but I think it's going to be really fast with all that pitch

Status: offline 		An update on the retracts and the optional parts i.e. cockpit tub and EP power.

The retracts were delivered personally by the owner of Robart Friday so these should be processed and ready for shipping next week.

The cockpit tub was missing the correct paper instrument panel, but these were received earlier this past week so these should be in stock and also ready for shipping next week.

The EP battery trays are enroute to us and we should have these in stock within a couple of weeks. Sorry for the delay on this, but the item failed QA and we are rushing new parts to correct the issue.

Status: offline 		@ lablover, as for different engines out there not sure yet. I am confident you could throw the Evo 50 up front and it would haul the mail. Was talking and flying this past week and found a new prop for the 40. Seems an APC 18.5 x 10.25 pattern prop brought it to life! This was used by the engine guy (Pete Bergstrom) here and we were quite impressed with its performance. I will order one up and fly it to see how the difference feels. Looks are very promising.

I would still do the model in gas for me personally. I love electric but prefer to have my larger models in gas. My 15 year old son flies and there is no way I could afford batteries to feed him. When he goes to the field our models are constantly up flying cover. He burns through a gallon of gas in an afternoon easily, if not 2 gallons. By the way he fell in love with the P-47 the other day when I gave him the keys!
