I would rather modify them myself just for the learning experience.  Shimming liners, and heads make a difference, especially with pipes.  Opening the venturi if possible usually helps until you can't set the needle accurately.  Opening the muffler, taking out the baffle if there is no noise restrictions at your field. Lightening the piston, radiusing the rod and polishing it... I usually check them without the muffler just for a place to start.  Check with a normal size prop, and then one a bit lighter load before and after each mod. to see if it helps on the high end or for torque.  I had a few that got 2500 rpm extra, most will get 800 rpm easy.  In another week the new field will be open and I won't have time to bother but for now it is good to experiment.  The cheap motors usually wear out the rod bushing quick, sometimes it is just better to get a better quality motor.

yes there are a lot of easy mods for all these engines. i know a bunch dont believe but i will have video up soon. I know soon as i have video up some will still cry foul.

MR cox take a LA 15 add another port by cutting away the case where the port is in the front of the case. there is plenty of metal there. make it just like the one that is there. cut a new port in the sleeve just like the other one. open the carb up just a bit and pick up 1500 rpm.... keep the transfers the same height. easy mod to do this will net you around 19,500 or on a APC 7x5 sport prop

Do(did) you angle the boost port like most motors, and will the plating peel later?  I found it strange that the LA .15's that I have are faster than the FP .15 that I have, and it has 3 ports. I found the LA didn't respond to a bigger carb much. (I didn't add the port though) The AP .15 and the Norvel .15 sure did.

yes put an angle of around 15 degrees on the sleeve and match the port in the case to the sleeve.

most of the engine work takes time and running on the engines. You can look at the burn pattern and see which ports are working good, the ones that are not working and then ones that are working to good lol.

Fot the carbs we try to match the hole in the crank if the carb barrel will go that far out.

I will see if i can take some pics of the LA tonight drpends when i get off work.

Ok i took some video of a Magnum 25 and a Magnum 46. i am uploading them now to youtube. takes about 10 mins a video either my computer is slow or youtube is lol.

Anyway the 25 spun a APC 8x7 at 17,800-17,900 and the 46 turned a APC 9x8 at 16,800-17,000. I have to measure the 25 carb again but the 46 is taken out to .330"

check back soon for video. I dont have a super tiger 45 but these with a "stage 3" as we call them turn the same 9x8 at 18,300 -18,800. one of the main reasons is the low initial transfer and boost timing and the shape of the exhaust port in the case as it excatly matches the Jett mufflers. The exhaust case volume is the exact same as the jett engines also. The magnum, OS and other brands do not match up to the jett mufflers very well. They work but not optimized for the mufflers. Ok need to check on the vid's

here is the Magnum XLS 46 on a 9X8 APC

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdBHuvohXHg

here is the magnum 25 with a APX 8x7 the needle was leaking and hard to get a good setting. i put some fuel tubing on the needle and its in another video coming soon.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTIB3z_qM

forgot to add these where on 15% nitro and 18% oil as i didnt have any 5% nitro with 16% oil. these were set up to run best on 5% nitro and i lost around 3-400 rpm on the 46 and 300 on the 25.

ok here is the 25 with the needle fixed for now. I am still learning how use my new camera so i thought i turned off the video record so skip to the 5 min mark on this video and can see it reached a steady 17,900 with the 8X7 APC.

I wonder what all of the before readings are for comparison, and what each mod gives separately.

I'd like to know the before and after port size/shape, and the port timing.

I guess I didn't think it wise to take someone else's engine apart, but if you don't care, I'll degree it.

I have been working long hours and haven't been able to get to the post office. I might be able to get it in the mail back to you today or tomorrow.

doesnt matter to me it wasnt running like it should have been. it should have been 18,000 or bit more on the 9x7 as it was turning 17,000 on the 9x8.

Please remember that when you port a two stroke engine you will ALWAYS need to make the pipe accordingly to the new port timing. If you add duration to the exhaust your pipe needs changes. If you put a bigger carb for more rpms then your low to mid section will become a lot harder to tune.

Porting matters but the soul of a 2-stroke is the pipe. I have done a lot of gasoline engines and pipes for rc-cars.
