Buckeye36 -> Finally started my Jagdpanther. (1/16/2012 3:38 AM)

I finally started the tank I won from the AAF museum raffle.
Nothing exciting just finished the first couple of steps, but it's a start.
I haven't decided on which paint scheme to use yet, still have time to decide.

Very nice! I ee you are following the ETO method of Tamiya tank builds. LOL Good start on that beast. I think there is a Tiger 1 around here to back you up on the field too!

The only thing i ever won was a plack for loosing so much.........

Great so far Buckeye, with the mod Dana came up with you won't have to do the diagonal dance anymore to move forward.

Buckeye36 -> RE: Finally started my Jagdpanther. (1/18/2012 9:32 PM)

LOL, I'll have to retrain myself to drive a JP straight....[:D]

Chow_Hound -> RE: Finally started my Jagdpanther. (1/19/2012 12:05 AM)

I can't wait to see how it turns out and if you will take painting advice from the other tanking member of your family. [:D]

I made a little more progres:  installed the torsion bars, swingarms, idler arms, mechanism deck, return rollers and final drive covers.

nice jim. looking good so far. enjoy the build

DirtyBird69 -> RE: Finally started my Jagdpanther. (1/26/2012 3:54 AM)

I have a stupid question... is that little return roller near the sprocket? Why is it so close to the sprocket?

Buckeye36 -> RE: Finally started my Jagdpanther. (1/26/2012 4:01 AM)

My understanding is that it's supposed keeps the track off the back of the sprocket.

Buckeye36 -> RE: Finally started my Jagdpanther. (1/26/2012 4:02 AM)

Thanks Tony, I hope it comes out as good as your Panzer IV.

Buckeye36 -> RE: Finally started my Jagdpanther. (1/26/2012 4:06 AM)

I received a surprise in the mail this week, CHIEFSONN cast some bump stops and sent me a set.
Thanks Wayne!
I've painted them and will epoxy them on tonight.

briz -> RE: Finally started my Jagdpanther. (1/26/2012 4:12 AM)

The real tank has that roller as well

Buckeye36 -> RE: Finally started my Jagdpanther. (1/26/2012 4:24 AM)

and at the end of the production run one of the factories, M.N.H. replaced the roller with a cast steel skid shoe-Gleitschuh.

Do you mean for instance when the tank goes in reverse?

Buckeye36 -> RE: Finally started my Jagdpanther. (1/26/2012 4:34 AM)

I'm not positive, but I believe it kept the track from wrapping over the back of the sprocket and binding when going forward in reverse

Buckeye36 -> RE: Finally started my Jagdpanther. (1/26/2012 4:35 AM)

Here's a pic of the real deal:

CHIEFSONN -> RE: Finally started my Jagdpanther. (1/26/2012 6:04 AM)

Yes you are correct that return roller prevents the track to stay on the sprocket. I too thought what was with wheel when I built my jad, and then I saw on you tub when Littlefield took out his panther for the first time, when he is backing it up into the garage I then seen why that wheel was placed there. If I find the video I will post it. I think this tank is one of my favorite. You are quit welcome for the parts,I have some other parts for latter, Lets see if I can find the vid.

CHIEFSONN -> RE: Finally started my Jagdpanther. (1/26/2012 6:12 AM)

Here is the vid watch it @ 4;10 to 4;30 you can see the track resting upon the roller, enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaLTkGjlgxM&feature=fvsr I know I will. ps Jim give me a call

YHR -> RE: Finally started my Jagdpanther. (1/26/2012 7:51 AM)

MAUS45 -> RE: Finally started my Jagdpanther. (1/26/2012 5:26 PM)

CHIEFSONN, are you selling the bump stops?

Devildog0341Va -> RE: Finally started my Jagdpanther. (1/26/2012 7:53 PM)

Great start Jim, looking foward to your progress.

Buckeye36 -> RE: Finally started my Jagdpanther. (1/26/2012 8:40 PM)

Thanks!

yellowshaker -> RE: Finally started my Jagdpanther. (1/26/2012 11:11 PM)

Seems that this is shaping up to be another great build thread! I love it, Jim. Everyone here is building something i have not yet done myself. I am getting great ideas here.  Keep up the ncie work.
And nice casting work Wayne!

Buckeye36 -> RE: Finally started my Jagdpanther. (1/27/2012 12:03 AM)

Speaking of Wayne's casting, I initially over looked a couple of small parts.

In addition to the bump stops there were 2 final drive housings and 2 torsion bar caps.

I overlooked the torsion bar caps...till now.

I glued 3 tiny photo etch screws to each cap, primed and then epoxied to the hull.
