Would it hurt my reception if I put my antenna inside my boat? I don't really want to put a mast on it and have enough length to the boat to run it straight down the inside on the upper side. Any thoughts?

I am useing a FM radio. I have another question for you. Why do some of my radios say "Aircraft use only"? Most of my transmitters are 72 and for aircraft but why couldn't I use them for my boats?

James,
72Mhz is for RC aircraft use only, 75Mhz is for surface.
Reason you can't use your 72Mhz radio on your boat, it is illegal (against FCC rules), it would also be irresponsible to do so.

although you may think that there is no one flying in the area you are operating your boat, you only need that one time that someone is and by pure luck both of you are on the same channel (unlucky).
You may lose control of your boat due to his command inputs and he may lose control of his aircraft due to your command inputs, this can cause not only serious damage to either equipment but also serious injury.

if one of your reason for using your 72Mhz is because you prefer dual stick instead of pistol grip, they do make surface dual stick on 75Mhz.
Another direction you could go is get a new 2.4Ghz radio, that way you can have the best of both worlds since 2.4 is for both.

Dan.

I have many 2.4 radios. I was just wondering. Where I live I am just as liable to have someone flying that I don't know about as someone running a boat. I fly mainly on 2.4 for that reason. If I fly 72 it would be where I knew there was a pin board. And if I was to run my boat with one it would be where I knew there was no one in range. The only reason I asked was that I have alot of older 72 set-ups that wouldn't bother me if they got wet and ruined. If I lose one of my 2.4 recievers I am out 70-80 bucks. I do see your point with interference. I just need to pick up some 75 stuff. To bad though, after 20 odd years of flying, I have plenty of old 72 recievers. I am new to boats and somewhat un-prepared it seems. As to the interference thing. What would the difference be if someone turned on a boat up-river from me on the same 75 freq. I mean there are no pin bords any-where around here for boats or airplanes. Except for the one at my little airstrip.

totally agree with you james regarding someone else using the same channel on 75Mhz, it could and did happen for one of my friends here.

I agree, the Rx are not cheap, I also use 2.4 on my planes and boats.
Just make sure you have a water tight radio box.

Dan.

I am getting there. I just got into boats when a friend gave me his collection. He is 80 and said he just couldn't keep up with them any-more. I ran one of them the other day and at around 60 MPH I can see why. I did get some 75 rec. from him but am trans. poor on 75. Also, The antenna on all these boats I got are the little short fiberglass type that bolt thru the hull. Do they need to be tuned if I change freq. They plug in to the rec. and if I get new stuff I was wondering if they will still work.

I agree with james I was running my dads boat one day and I happened to nose dive into a wave with a 2.4 radio. My rx got wet so we took it home and put it in a bole of rice to dry it out. Needless to say my $80 2.4rx is destroyed.I have lots of 72 receivers that I dont mind putting in a boat.

I understand,
I run $90 receivers in my boats also, that is why it is important to have a water tight radio box.
you can also use corrosion-x in all servos and receivers.

Dan.

not to start a fight with the guys running 100 dollar rx boxes in their tubs but you should check out the flysky 2.4 ghz systems they r selling like wildfire and the rx are only 6-8 bucks ea. i will use these as i have done my own tests having my gf drive off with a servo and rx by the time she was 2 blocks down i could still see the car but if my boat was that far i would lose orientation any ways. but she turned and told me where it started glitching and she was very far away and who knows how many houses and trees between us. so take it for what its worth . btw anything man made that has electric passing through it is bound to die sooner or later and may be junk from the manufacturer so before any 1 chimes in about their 100 rx's being way better then i will direct you to other forums that will show you yes even the expensive rx's fail .one of these days im going to test traxxas 2.4  and tactics 2.4 futaba 2.4 and spectrum 2.4 just to get results. im by no means a expert but test results tell all .

Mad,
I agree with you, I have read many reviews regarding the flysky (including yours) also seen a couple in action, very impressed.
Price..........Dirt cheap.

One thing I did not do in any of my previous post is that I did not mention any specific brands.
Yes I have a Futaba 3 PM 2.4, reason is back then there was only a couple of choices, the flysky did not exist.

but now, thats a different story.

Dan.
