My basic plan is to build a 1/72 or bigger wet hulled rc akula from scratch as i don't feel like shelling out for the fibreglass hulls, are there any particularly good or recognised ways of making a submarine hull other than making a fibreglass mould  route?

My plan is to make an internal Skelton out of ply and then cover it in something i haven't decided on yet for the outer hull perhaps thin ply but that might e a bit delicate.

My questions are does my current planned route work or is it doomed to fail and is making a fibreglass mould and doing it that way as difficult as it looks and if not are there any good guides on how to do it.

Status: offline 		Unless you plan to make several hulls, a "fiberglass resign" mold is expensive. It's now $ 35 or more a gallon.

Status: offline 		I had a feeling that might be the case, are the any perticularly recommended techniques for just producing one off hulls or is fiberglass the only way?

Status: offline 		There is another method to copy a plug using a layered buildup of a rubberlike mold material. Such a mold is less durable than a fiberglass resin type, but may be suitable for limited reproductions. A google search should bring up several detailed discussions describing the method and materials.
