hey Goose,
i just placed an order for the 20cc DLE which i plan to install on my little edge... I just hope it wont be too heavy...
I was just curious as to what are the pros/cons with synthetic and mineral oil???? i noticed alot of the guys flying the 100cc and above go on mineral???

2 gallons on the edge 50cc and you just can't get enough... 1 nitro engine left in my hangar and should be my last one for now (until i can find a Q500 racer). Gassers are just so practical and clean...

David,
Sweet looking extra... no pilot on the way? im still not decided on a scale pilot???? might end up with goose's choice but with the visor up..

Temp in the 30 C range..... )))) Goose/David !!!! waiting for your maiden video..

Taimoor

Hey Taimoor...

Good choice, they are a great little engine.

The manufacturers all suggest a break in on mineral oil with a switch to synthetic afterwards. I did that on my DL50 (not E) and it is a good, strong running engine. I did not do that with my DLE20 as I still have synthetic mixed (@50:1) for the 50 and was lazy. The 20 is also a good strong and reliable engine.

It has to be when hucking the X260

My pilot is great but expensive.

Temp in the -5C range this morning... it's SPRING! (lol)

Cheers

Looks great Dave!!

Nice job.

Hmmm... RCU (for me) has been significantly better over the last week or two... I'm hoping the issues are finally getting sorted out.

Cheers

It has been better the last week for me too, Goose. Until I tried to post those pics. Maybe it was the pic with the RCU sticker that was geting rejected LOL

Goose,
Any tips on pilot install? how was yours installed? glued or did you make it removable?

The RedAero pilots are fibreglass molds and are hollow. The head has a short 'neck' portion that is epoxied (factory) to the body.

I traced around the base of the body (after ensuring it wasn't too tall) and used the result to make a 1/8" (3mm) base plate which I cut holes into for lightness.

I epoxied the base plate into the pilot body and made another plate that sits about 3/4" (19mm) above the plate that the rudder servo is mounted on. I had planned to make it removable but in the end simply epoxied the two plates together.

If I have to get him out of there, it will be surgery

Make sense?

I think he is a little small. If you see a full scale one, his shoulders are 6" or so from the sides of the canopy.

I agree, he's too small.

Our Edge's are close to 1/3rd scale and you will need a pilot that size.

Check the pic... these are small aircraft in full scale.

Got two test flights on the Extra today. I could not be happier!! Sorry no one there with a video camera, but i got a few stills. I am really happy with how it flew. i am on the rich side as it burbles in spots, but the power is beyond what i had hoped for. My throw in the truck and go plane is a 7 lbs profile with a Saito 1.25. Verticle is great and hover is less than half power. The DA-60 on the 17+lbs Extra will leave it on the dust. I only hovered for a few seconds and had one full power verticle. But was more than impressed with the power. Trim was one click off on elev and aile. Knife edge has a little opposite roll but is pretty straight. Inverted flight is a very slight dive. CG must be VERY close the way it flew. Sorry to ramble I am really pumped.

 Congrat's David !!!

I can relate to the being pumped on my first 2 flights

The 300 is looking good! though we are still waiting on the video..... perhaps on the coming flights and with a bit of a demo on how she handles a hover...

I hope to do that. I just don't own a video camera. I will get a iPhone video next time out. May not be perfect but would be better than nothing.

Hey goose,

Forum too quiet.... waiting for your maiden flight....

wanted to ask you which prop you recommend for the DLE 20cc?? working on my .60 gas conversion... and would you happen to know if the smoke tank we have with the edge is ok to use with gas?

thanks!

Taimoor

David,
how's it going? more flights on your bird?

Brian,
recall your suggestion on 23x8 laminated prop? any experience with the 22x10? i was wondering if it would be a better imac prop.

The prop for the DLE is kinda tough without a weight on your plane. I have a 9 lb RV4 that flies very nicely with a 16X8. My friend has the AW Extra 60/90 that weighs seven pounds works awesome on a 17X6.

I have used a 22/10 Menz before and it rips on the downlegs. I really like the breaking speed of the 23x8. It is really personal preference.

Thanks Brian!
i agree with you on the 23x8. I was only curious about the 22x10 due to my growing interest in imac. My .60 edge is almost a match to your friend's extra and if i am not mistaken, maybe has a larger wing surface. Seems to be the same prop everybody suggests for birds over the 7 lbs class.

Have you seen the new release from AW? checkmate? sweet looking plane. (goose... looks like a good candidate for next winters project )

Goose, with your eye for detail, a warbird would be right up your alley. Aeroworks sells their P-51 in ARC version. Would be killer with Flight metal on it.

Tumalik, still just have the two flights. Been too windy on my days off. Typical Oklahoma spring weather. Going to a Fly In next Saturday. Hope to put some time on it there.

Hey David...

It's nice, but too pricey for the level of detail it needs

I'm saving for a Comp-ARF P-51... (until something else gets my attention! *lol*)

My maiden is set for this weekend (April 28). I spent the weekend prepping my trailer and it's ready to go but woke to SNOW this morning!...

Cheers.
