Take a look at this post link:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4050020/tm.htm

some of them used other motors on the MGT. You can pm them and ask more info about what they used and what they did to make the change.

Picco .28, LRP .28 & .30, Losi 454 & Big Red and others are direct fit! The motor mount, you may have to grid a little here & there. You shouldn't have to change anything chasis wise! I run a clockwork Picco .28. The .21 transmission wont hold up to some of the mills I listed expecially the picco. My MGT's were origial .21's I have 8.0 tranny's in them and they hold up well!

im pretty new at all of this and dont know much on what is a quality motor.im looking for something with alittle more power and speed period without changing my gearing and something that will  stand the test of time.i would also like to put a tougher tranny on my monster gt,that can take alot of abuse.thanks for all the response.what motor and tranny do you suggest i do with ,,,,,,,remember im only using this for at home fun ,i wont be doing any competition so i dont need the best ,just would like something alittle better, toughermstronger more speed and power and a motor thats easier to tune and adjust easier than the 21 that i have on it now.but quality is my main  goal i dont want a bigger better motor thats going to always be giving me problems because its made cheap.please get back to me and if possible paste sum sites that i might be able to go to and look at what your talking about....................thanks again

As far as the tranny goes get the 8.0 tranny off ebay any where from $60 to $90. I use the steel spur & support carrier that comes with it and just change the clutch bell from 14t to 18t for torque or speed. You can keep the old style plastic spur if you like! You just need to switch out the spur shaft from the 8.0 to the one in your current tranny it's a direct fit!
