All shafts are steel now.  Bigger slipper clutch installed.  The weak points are the spur gear and the Diffs link to the half shafts.

Hi all I just spent a better part of the day reading all the posts and watching as many of the videos that would play and all I have to say is Fn WOW!!!

I am the proud owner of a slash 4x4 and absolutly love that truck it was my first truck I got it almost three yrs ago and have bashed the hell out of it. Never got into the whole forum or doing all the upgrades till the past month er two. I find no need to get the CC MM for it as the velenion is plenty fast for me and my needs, plus driving under water is the $**!. I have about exausted my room for uprades for the slash and stubbled across this amazing machine some of you may know it to be called the "SUMMIT".
I began reading this thread and watching youtube videos about this summit and have been nothing under impressed with it and its capabilities.
luckly for me I dont have a LHS I have an entire store dedicated to rc trucks and trucks alone (miniutes from the house). The best part about it is that the owner Betty is so awesome she allows layaway and is very flexable about payment as she understands not everyone just has 6 bills laying around for a summit or a grand for an e revo. Make a long story shorter I fell in love with this truck and I owe RC Addiction 400 $ before I can bring home my newest addition to the greatest hobbie ever. Best part is my lady is totally cool with it especially when I told her it wont be like anoter T rex 450, that thing was a nightmare and im over the heli seen lol.
Im really glad to see that this thread is holding up so well as some of you have been her since the begining. I have learned a hell of a lot from you guys and hope that I can continue to do so. I will have lots of ?s Im sure even tho most of which have already been answered in the first 1500 posts lol.
Anyways i cant wait to get my summit here in the next month or two but i will still be reading this thread and posting comments and updates as to when I can really join in on the fun
My main ? I have right now because I have not seen the summit in real life yet is what is everyones opinion as to what color looks the best with the new version summit with the lvc, tqi, and new body.

Yeah ive taken my summit to flatrock and it went up most of what the mantis did but that sob will go up anything! The summit is prob 1/4 of the crawler that the mantis is but its built just for that so it should be. He sold it, which sucks bc i liked driving it!

Yeah that mantis is awesome, the summit does alright but it's no comparison, on the vertical stuff my summit normally wants to tip back, I've found it does better with only the front diffs locked and if you go at it real easy but you're still not going to be as precise as you would be with something like that mantis.

Man that thing has got power on tap, can you tell us how it goes on run times please? That much power and you're still waterproof, love it.

I added a fan to the esc to ensure cooling.  But I seem to be able to drive it for a while.  I haven't gotten actually time but ill have that and let you know.  I'm currently using two 2s lipos at 5200mah.  I'm going to bet about 15 plus, see how close I am.  Went from 14t to 21t on the pinion and the torque is still insane.  And the accerlation is impressive.  Haven't tried the studded chains with them yet as I am still testing the motors.  But with the chains on I'm pushing 15.5 pounds.  Went from 50w to 60w shock oil and threw on the double orange rings on the rear to help counter the extra weight.  Seems to be doing the job.  Haven't had a chance to get a real good drive due to harsh weather the pst week.

how well does a fan really work? its off topic but my slash gets pretty hot Ive never used a temp gun on it but I know its up there. my esc and motor get too hot to touch I run a 3s lipo, the battery doesnt get warm at all.

When I get my summit I like most of you I plan on keeping it stock for the most part and slowly let the upgrades tickle in eventually. Is the cooling fan necassary to have with the stock 775 motor? Idont ever plan on going BL unless of course velenion makesa 1/8 water proof system then I would seriously consider it. Living in oregon its almost a must have to be water proof.

The fan can make a night and day difference if your esc gets hot.  But if you plan to run stock you don't need one.  I use one only due to it running dual dewalt motors.  I bought an aftermarket light bar for the roof.  It's very bright and I love it.

Would it be wise for me to get the fan for my slash then?
I'm probably going to own those lights before I have the truck lol
