Checked the reciever box...there was a half of a drop of water in the corner around a screw. I spray mine down with a water hose then with wd40 then blow that off with an air hose after every run.

O and also today I noticed my rear diff didnt lock so i took the body off and turned it on and off and the servo moves but it twitches back and forth til I cut it off. Is my servo bad already?

Just called traxxas and the guy said sometimes when the antenna gets fully submerged it looses contact with the radio. That makes sense but doesnt explain why peeps on youtube can do it on their stock summits. I think when i took the motor off and put it back on it might be binding the linkage somewhere bc it started the first run after I took off and cleaned the motor.

By "binding the linkage" I guess you are talking about the pinion gear and spur gear? If the motor is revving but your truck is not moving then it is most likely a problem with the mesh of those gears or a stripped spur gear. Check out page 25 of your manual, the paper method is pretty good way of testing your mesh until you get a feel for it. If you are pulling on the trigger and the motor is doing nothing then the problem is somewhere else, did you take the receiver cover off and check for water inside? It's a good idea to remove that cover after running in the water to let it dry and avoid moisture build up. The problem with the servo might be linked to the problem with the receiver (if that is the problem) but it would not surprise me if the servo died.

Edit

Another thought, has the black cap on the antenna fallen off? Water could find its way in that way I guess.

No it runs fine forward and reverse my back diff wont lock in. It started after i pulled the motor off and cleaned it then reinstalled it. So im thinking a wire or something is on the way of the rear diff linkage. Im going to take the motor off again and check to see if anything is in the way of it.

Oh I see what you mean, the linkage between the servo and the diff. It's worth checking out. maybe try taking off the servo horn and see if the servo still works.
So your summit cut out while it was in the water but it is working fine now? Aside from the servo of course. Kinda makes me re-think trying this for a second time.

Ok i fixed it. Yeah it cut off in the middle of the creek. Like i said traxxas support said sometimes it looses connection with the handheld when the antenna is completly under water. O well ill never sink it to the roof again...i didnt really mean to today but the current in the creek caught it and took it out to the middle and it was deeper than i thought. Lol

Ok this is the reason i thought i could sink my summit to the roof.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQkh7wkV-Ho&feature=youtube_gdata_player

But after watching it a second time I realized he has an antenna alittle over a foot long. My antenna is like 2 inches. Lol

He has the original Summit version with the AM Tx.  Yours has the newer 2.4 GHz Tx, doesn't need the long antenna.  (And has longer range than the AM, too.)

You dodged a bullet.  They will take a lot of water, but they don't like full submersion very much.  Try not to do it too often, lol.

The micro servos for the diffs and tranny are notorious for going bad easily.  Make sure when you put it back on that you power it on before putting the horn back on, so it will center itself.  They are cheap on ebay if you ever need to replace.

Hi, I have a summit and I'm going to keep the stock brushed set up for what I need. Lipo's are all it's getting for a while. I am working on a plow system for it. With the stock locking diffs and low gearing I figured it would make a great candidate for a plow truck. I will post pictures of my progress. Who knows maybe I will make a couple of extra units. It is a very scale design and the blade lift servo is hidden under the winch in the body (the servo mount replaces the plastic hoop bumper stand off).
Anyway I subscirbed to this thread and I'm looking forward to talking about summits with you folks.
Take care, Jay

Awesome thread guys. I've had my Summit for about 2 years now and I absolutely LOVE IT! I beat the tar out of it, it's seen 30+ feet jumps etc and always comes back begging for more!!

Currently doing a BL E- Revo Rebuild/Refresh as i've been beating it up for about 2 yrs also and it's time to do some upgrades.

When I'm finished my sights are set are on upgrading the Summit. I currently run 2S Lipo's and a LVC. Truck just isn;t fast enough for me considering everything else I own is brushless. SO i'll be adding a Brushless Sensored System to make it faster and keep it crawling in the near future, some new wheel/tires, and upgraded Arms and shafts.

You guys do know you can waterproof a brushless system right? All my trucks are waterproofed using CORROSIONX, best thing i've ever found in regards to keeping water away. I retreat once a year.

It definately is a must to water protect your equipment. I am sticking with the brushed set up because it is smooth as slow speeds/rpm and for my application the stock set up will lose traction before losing power. I have other brushless models for speed.
I originally wanted to just buy a plow and all I found was one for the T-maxx that looks like a thin gauge sheet metal blade crimped at the top so it don't fold the first time you hit a chunk of ice (in theory) and has little airplane landing looking wheels for skids. The other one is $180.00 and has buggy shocks for trip springs and no lateral support (side force).
Up until lately I have been designing/producing helicopter parts, now my kids are getting old enough for rc I am pretty much switching over to surface equipment and spending less time at the airfield.
Don't let the MRS catch you washing truck parts in the sink, they don't like that. Ask me how I know lol. Your summit body is sweet with the trx graphics, did you buy it that way?
Have a good one, Jay

So when i was cleaning my summit today i took the motor out and looked at the linkage to the rear diff. When i put the motor back on last time i had wires put back in the wrong spot and it was holding up the linkage from locking the rear diff...my servo is fine thank god!!! Everything is back to working order
