Still dead set on getting a Canadian Leopard or a Leopard and Canadianizing it (Hobby Engine... cant justify spending so much on a Tamiya one..)

I decided to start small and do a model one for my shelf.

First off... I have no idea what to look for in accuracies to the real Leopard, but after reading a review on Armorama there are a few things.

Started with the lower hull as I assume most tank models do.

First mistake: Putting both halves of the road wheels and sprockets together and realizing I forgot to add the polyspacers. Fun part was finding a way to pull them all apart.

Lower hull was finished and started moving on to the upper. The Leo 2A6M included the mine protection plate on the underbelly of the tank. Cool!

Did the upper hull and turret. Decided not to put the slat armour on until the NATO camo was painted.

Painting has started!

After having it sit on my table to make room for airsofting again. (Yes the sport) I decided to finish the painting (with a horrible camo) and add some dusting with my new airbrush.

Last steps are to finish painting the slat armour...or birdcage armour and do rusting on the grey parts

What's going to be harder is finding the iconic slat armour dimensions for a 1/16th scale Leopard 2

I used some Bruder corral fencing as a frame. It is pretty crude, but it was an attempt

Your Leopard 2 CAN looks amazing! Are you putting the barracuda thermal blanket on it? Like on this:

http://www.network54.com/Forum/169232/thread/1297598795/A+leap+of+Cannuck+Leopards

The color scheme is dead on. Apparently the CF did not bother to paint over the German original color scheme because they were getting the barracuda camouflage.

Is it static model or an RC? If not you should check out

http://35rctank.com/html/k9.html

It is a bit pricey and I did a quick Google search and found this kit.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-35-Tamiya-R-C-Modern-GERMAN-LEOPARD-2-A5-Tank-Unassembled-Model-Kit-/160932293069?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item25784fe9cd

You could rip out the internal components and install them your project or you can use it as test bed for upgrades.

I am new builder and was in the dilemma of choosing a project base on cost and complexity. I originally wanted to tackle the Leopard 1 MEXAS, but I have no idea where to start. I am really tempted to buy a VS Tank Leopard 2 and call it day! I am thinking of learning from the 1/72 scale before moving to the 1/16. There a lots of Tamiya Leopard 2 kits for sale in the UK in the $300.00 CDN range on Ebay. Ie here.

My original plan was to do a 1/16th Leopard 2A6M CAN with the SLATE armour. So first off I bought a semi cheap $40 1:35th scale to get the closeup of what needs to be where.

Still haven't gotten the 1:16 Leo2 yet, but I plan on getting a Hobby Engine one, as oppose to the Tamiya kits.
