On Sunday morning January 22 sometime before daylight someone came on my property and stole my 6 X 12 RC trailer and contents. I am out close to $6000 dollars worth of stuff. $2800 for a new trailer plus the planes, radio equipment and support equipment. I advise everyone to be sure your trailers are locked and imobilized. Mine was locked but they chained it to their hitch and pulled it out the driveway and down the road. I know the sheriff department is doing all it can but I don't expect to see it again. If I replace my trailer I will purchase a wheel boot to imobilize the trailer. I also have a design for a unit to put on the ball coupler that will make it near impossible to pull the trailer without it being removed. Stay safe and alert to you surroundings. Our hobby is not cheap but is alot of fun and worth the time and money we spend. I am 60 years old and have never felt so violated in my life. Be Safe and Careful out there!

So sorry to hear about this.  I hope they catch the lowlife scum.

One extra thing I do is put an old hitchball in the hitch and padlock the locking latch.  This way they can't slip the hitch over a smaller ball and pull it away.  It won't stop them but they'll have to work a lot harder to pull it away.

Good luck,

Mark

Thanks for the added information. I hope this can keep others from having the same thing happen. We are still in desperate times and some people will do anything to make a buck even if it is at someone elses expense.

Very frustrating, especially considering the little miscreants will take $500 for the trailer, probably trashcan the airframes, and take everything else to a pawnshop for 10% of retail. Keep an eye out on Craigslist though. My club's mower and other lawn equipment was stolen in 2010 to the tune of about $4000 replacement cost. One of our club members found a photo of it on Craigslist located about 40 miles away and called the police. A detective called to set up a buy and the lady gave him her home address with a guy in the background shouting to her not to. The police recovered not only all of our equipment but around $30k in other stolen items throughout the house and all around the backyard. Was a good day.

I'm sorry to hear about this. I fly about 40 miles SW of Atlanta. Post a description of your trailer and items and I'll sure keep an eye open in this area.

That sucks, I hope you get it back. I agree on getting the word out and watching CL and flee-bay.

Is Lo-Jack still useful?

I'm so sorry to hear about this. I just hate low-life scum taking what others have worked so hard to obtain.
You might want to go to the Perry show at the Ag Center 2-3 Mar. Ya never know what you'll find. Folks come from all over to sell and trade.

The thieves have some connection with you, and may be associated with friends or club members, neighbors, etc.. Keep you eyes and ears open and perhaps you can pick up on some leads.
Hit the various flying sites and spread the word............
Good luck[>:]

Post up some pics of your aircraft if you've got them. Lot of guys on this forum go to swap meets all over the place. There would be a whole lot of eyes out there looking. Your stuff could end up at Perry since that's the next one coming up too.

Make it as much of a PITA as possible for anyone to swipe your trailer. I use a Reese lock that goes up inside the hitch with a ball on it and another lock for the latch. Thieves don't want to spend a lot of time trying to rip you off, especially if the trailer is out in the open. With mine being put away in my back yard for the winter I put it in a difficult place to get it out of.
Trailers are easy prey for a lot of thieves as they may not have been aware of the planes inside but could be unloaded to anyone, sometimes those in construction trades for tool haulers but don't rule out at the same time that someone may have wanted the contents. Keep an eye out anywhere including any site that has a for sale forum including the RCU Marketplace. Yeah, some of them aren't too bright. It wouldn't be the first time that stolen goods were found in there!

Some people don't like adding decals or other things to let others know what could be inside but at the same time the thieves would have more work ahead to remove any identifying marks.

Yeah the thing to remember is that criminals are lazy by nature so they are going to try to get rid of the stuff with the least effort to themselves. If they know about RC planes they might show up here or at a swap meet, but if not I'd expect a pawn shop.

This s*cks big time!

I live in a country where people steal stuff all the time. Imagine people steeling the highway guard rails to sell them to the scrap yards for a few bucks. It cost a fortune to put them back up again.

I think the only way to get rid of these thieves is to go back to "primitive" punishments like "losing" a finger or two the second time they catch you stealing something!
