THen I just saw and read about this..... damn you HPI. I just might have to get back into RC once again for a gas powered Savage. I'll be lurking in the shadows and watching....

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Why you be hating man? Not everybody has the skills required to go on ebay/towerhobbies, buy a bunch of aftermarket parts, install them, all the while making it seem like huge accomplishments. Personally I'm looking forwards to a gasser "freezerburn III" [;)]

Seriously though, this might be the best move by HPI. At first I was disappointed that they came sooo close to what we want but miss it by a mile. But then I take into consideration the fragile economy and how not many would have 1500$ to drop on a 1/5 gasser savage. Bravo HPI, brilliant move, hats off to you. IMO this puts them ahead of the game. Your move traxxas.

quietnas1 -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/19/2012 4:20 AM)

I think this is a gray move by HPI. I can't wait until this thing comes out. If I can't buy it out rite my LHS has lay-a-way. You can afford anything on lay-a-way lol.

Not to mention they've got an offering for those of us who want a short course truck/buggy that isn't battery powered. If I do find the dosh to afford one of these I'm definitely going after one of those two, mostly because I like the scale looks and also because I don't really need a monster truck for what I do.

SETTLES43 -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/20/2012 12:46 AM)

it just needs to be released already....

378 -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/20/2012 1:22 AM)

Uhh, no. I'd rather they take all the time they want and release it when it's ready to be released. IF they rush it they stand a much higher chance of releasing a paperweight.

Brainanator -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/20/2012 5:59 AM)

as much as I want one, I will not be purchasing 1st generation...I'll let some of the bugs get worked out first, or at least figured out, before I sink money into one.

SETTLES43 -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/25/2012 12:03 AM)

has anyone heard anything new????? it's gonna be out in march (next month, 5 days) and no one knows anything???? wow

CR500rider -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/29/2012 5:35 AM)

Release date is March 2013

quietnas1 -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/29/2012 8:03 AM)

Can't be 2013 that's a whole year away and plus the Mayan calendar says the end of the world is the end of this year. I need to get one before that happens lol.

SETTLES43 -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/29/2012 11:43 AM)

HPI said it would definately be out before december 2012... probably wont even be broke in before the end of the world, and forget about sending the new gas engine out for mods..........
lets play speculation,
the gasser would have to come with the
XL chassis
BP diffs
big bore shocks
revised three speed... to take advantage of the low rpm torque monster
dirt bones on the blacked out wheels (read..no flakey chrome please)
sf5 or better steering servo
sf2 throttle servo
the XL body is fine, maybe new grafics
????????

lawnman36 -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (3/17/2012 11:49 PM)

i cant wait for this to come out

dmzamora -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (5/30/2012 7:22 AM)

Just got tired of waiting without any news from HPI, and bought a Redcat Rampage.

I would probably come back to HPI if they release an 1:5 4WD MT any time in the future, but I really doubt it will ever happen.

WyldOne -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (5/30/2012 8:40 PM)

Still waiting... [8|]

SyCo_VeNoM -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (5/31/2012 12:18 AM)

meh just do what this guy did http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11094130/tm.htm and be done with it.
HPI loves to take forever to release something after they get everyone all hyped up, and in all honesty that royally pisses me off about them.
Its especially painful when the hyped up product turns out to be a royal turd like a few they have released recently (hope this thing works great though)

It's a nice project, but I don't have the time, the workplace nor the tools to create my own chassis. And all the working projects I saw resulted in rigs with very challenging handling due to the high center of gravity.

Alain2 -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (5/31/2012 3:24 PM)

I was ready to buy one 6 months ago, not sure anymore.

cumquat -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (5/31/2012 5:14 PM)

think of it this way, the longer they wait to release it, the better it should be. if they do in fact wait until December, there is no reason for it to suck. it should be one of the best releases in some time. also take this time to save up, i am willing to bet it's going to cost about the same as the 5b.

You got a point here.

But to cost as much as a 5B, it surely would have to be 1/5 scale, I really don't see many people tossing over $1000 at an 1/8, even being a gasser.

cumquat -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (5/31/2012 6:01 PM)

$1000 really isnt pushing it. that engine has to cost a good bit of money simply due to the fact that they pretty much designed it from scratch and consider the fact that the xl is already pushing $650, a $350 price jump isnt completely unreasonable. i seriously would be surprised if it sells for less than $850 at release.

cumminspower5.9 -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (5/31/2012 7:38 PM)

Would you buy that gas motor for $350 thought? The truck is old, the motor is new. If its near $1000, good luck HPI. Dont get me wrong its a bad as* looking truck and I would love to see one run.

cumquat -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (5/31/2012 9:14 PM)

i actually think the engine will have closer to a $500 retail price. it will be one of the smallest production gas engines in the world, if not THE smallest. also consider that they say it has the same power as a .26 but runs for 40 minutes off a tank of gas, which probably costs $1.50 to fill at max (i dont know what the CC is). throw in the low maintenance and novelty of a gas powered 8th scale MT, i can justify a $1k rtr price. also remember, the price will come down after a year or so and any potential quarks should also be worked out by then.
