Who has seen them yet? They are so SICK!

wonder what there going to cost

CR500rider -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/1/2012 3:51 AM)

Links?

DarkFire989 -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/1/2012 3:59 AM)

I only saw them on Facebook. Not sure if they are on HPI's site yet.

pythonfan -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/1/2012 4:07 AM)

Dude i just came to post this, shucks but droool.

The more i look at the savage the more i see, i like how hpi is finally giving us a proper mid tank mod solution.

Edit 3: The only place that engine looks at home is in the savage, if you notice when its in any of the other cars there's no exhaust mounted, yet if you look at the savage they have a pipe on it. Makes me wonder if its just for show in the other cars, or if some pipe is going to be made to run it out the back seeing as how the electronics are on that side.

CR500rider -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/1/2012 4:55 AM)

Hopefully a normal fuel/oil mix can be used and not some $40 gallon BS

pythonfan -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/1/2012 5:29 AM)

The more i look at the motor the more i can't help but think it looks like a boat engine, or a plane engine with a special spark plug and magneto other then that its just your normal glow engine but now it can tank gasoline or so we hope.

jbooker82 -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/1/2012 8:06 AM)

Wonder how the power is. If the engine is around the same size as a regular .28 then I bet it is pretty gutless. The reason why the nitro motors make so much power is the fuel that they run on.

Take one of these and mod the carb (more fuel flow) then run it on methanol and nitromethane and you would have a pretty powerfull engine.

They dont even have a round exhaust port. It is rectangle like the old car engines, and air plane engines.

HerrSavage -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/1/2012 8:13 AM)

Wow... Interesting... Have been waiting to hear more news from Nürnberg...

This could really be interesting if the performance is OK...

HerrSavage -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/1/2012 9:55 AM)

More than exciting, on further reflection.. This could be a game changer, and win back some turf for those who think electric is the work of the devil.. The ramifications for nitro could be dire..

Very, very interesting, if this thing goes well at all and is half-way affordable.. Could be a major revolution in RC..

Brilliant of HPI too to come out with not one, but a whole series of cars....

Agreed.

Many companies have set out to reinvent the wheel and few have done so, but others have gone out and found ways to improve on what works. Nitro i think is a dieing gem, i love it but the price for the fuel and the up keep is getting more and more over looked as batteries ever evolve and the cost to run time ratio grows. I think with hpi taking what they know and have a solid platform and doing something different that could turn tables on engine platforms for these cars and make us re think everything. Will this replace brushless and lipo? No, but this will give us a much cheaper alternative and give us that soul and sound we crave. I think if done right i think pros would be run times, cost, and if they can produce some good pep they could really do some damage in the rc market.

HerrSavage -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/1/2012 12:00 PM)

Yep.. Also, respect to 'em for giving the bashing world a needed shot in the arm with so much emphasis having shifted to racing..

Jgaff2 -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/1/2012 12:04 PM)

Wow really interesting...if these end up having a decent amount of power I would definitely get one. Cheaper fuel (hopefully) and if not running on nitro engine life would probably increase. Really excited to see where this is going!

pythonfan -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/1/2012 12:50 PM)

Something I'm wondering about is the power on these little guys, by default on the nitros the rpm's is what makes these cars go. I don't know if it will have the rpm band but i think it could give more low end torque and drive much taller gearing to compensate for its lack of rpm. Obviously this is all speculation but i can't wait to see what these little guys can do, sure they will be no picco's but this for sure a step forward that has the bashing scene has been needing to compete with the brushless/e-vehicle market.

HerrSavage -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/1/2012 12:54 PM)

Yeah, it's probably wishful thinking to expect them to be powerhouses.. But just coming out with them at all is good - a basis is there to work with and improve upon..

DarkFire989 -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/1/2012 1:54 PM)

I can already see on the gascap of the savage it says "Gasoline+Oil"

 a plane engine

I think thats it. That engine certainly looks similar to the O.S. GT-33 or even the GT-55

cumquat -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/1/2012 3:34 PM)

anyone remember this?

looks like we finally got some pics. i may open that bank account and start saving instead of getting anything for the time being, at least until some details are released. $250 down, $1000 to go... (expect expensive, hope for cheap[:)])

Dale Gribble -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/1/2012 4:13 PM)

I know it was wishful thinking but I was really hoping for fuel injection too. The gasser removes the nitro fuel costs which is HUGE, but if the tuning isn't simplified then it will still keep some discouraged/away. Not me mind you, but others.

It has to run a custom flywheel obviously for the magnetic pickup. You can see the flywheel on the buggy/truggy platform.

I am not sure if this is groundbreaking or servicing a niche market.

has me worried too, that nedle carb just isnt going to cut it for gasoline. hpi must have something up their sleeve

DarkFire989 -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/1/2012 4:40 PM)

The reason I went to Gassers was the ease of tuning them. The carb on this worries me. I wonder if they will be able to hold a tune like on the large scale cars.

Also the exhaust.... 1/5 scales have massive pipes. I dont see where the exhaust will be mounted on these.

Marco810 -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/1/2012 4:56 PM)

One thing i like about this is I bet competitors will try to one up hpi and more development will begin for petrol 1/8's. if setup right  i think a gas engine can perform and thats saying from experience of running different fuel in a larger scale 2stroke (kx500)

hats off to hpi, way to keep this hobby alive

HerrSavage -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/1/2012 5:01 PM)

Tuning a nitro isn't hard. Tuning a POS one is, but generally, no - they're really not that big a deal.

What bugs me most about nitro is gallon-long break-ins (on most non-SH engines anyway..), and fuel being €45 a gallon.

I've yet to see a 5th scale gasser though that sounded remotely cool. Plus 5th scale RC's cost $1,000, with $100 bodies, etc.. 8th scale is just right for me.. And I'd sacrifice the coolness of the nitro sound for gas if performance is good and the price is OK. Tuning is not high on my list of concerns anyway..

DarkFire989 -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/1/2012 5:12 PM)

1/5 scale gassers dont sound cool to you? To each of their own I guess. I love mine.

Dale Gribble -> RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers (2/1/2012 5:24 PM)

Ya, I LOVE the sounds of my Baja 5T and 5B. They sound like dirt bikes pretty much. What's not to like?
