ROTE (cont)

Some carnage on Thursday: three planes taken by the balsa gods!
My buddies, Scott and Merlyn, who helped and spotted for me while flying my F4U (I need lots of help when I'm flying!) The comparf with the Moki 250 is a real treat to fly: A pu$$y cat for take offs and landings. (For details of the flights, see post #1273 at http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8096976/mpage_51/tm.htm )
Jim's cool Russian plane.
Doc's F6F and Scott's F4F.
Jerry Bates and Steve.
One pilot had a 'few' battery packs!
Pictures while flying in Mac's cub.

A few more from the cub.
The door is open so good shots can be taken.
Those big factories aren't seen from the ground: it all looks bucolic!
The land is reclaimed with new dirt and trees after the materials have been removed.

Americana:

The trip starts in Ohio and goes through the 'smokies' via Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia.
Atlanta's airport runways go over the highway.
Getting back home, coming down the big hill on I-75 gives a good picture of Cincinnati's skyline.

  Hi Sam,

Good to hear you made it home safe and sound.

We are glad y'all had a good time and enjoyed the "Southern Way".

I didn't get to fly that much with y'all but was on Dr's orders, after this Wednesday I hope I can get a new 5 year warranty, on my 12 year old stints in my heart, I think everything is just fine, but my wife and family Dr. don't think so because I have become so LAZY, go figure

     See You down the road,
         Charlie

Getting ready for winter: storage and building.

Well, it was a great summer, lots of flying and seeing old friends (as well as meeting new ones).
Put about 7300 miles on the truck to about 18 flyins.

Separate shop storage:
There's not enough room in the house (too much other junk!) so I needed to build some storage shelves.
Some inexpensive hollow core doors and two-by-fours did the trick.
Due to the size of the comparf F4U, I had to make extensions on the doors so the legs would be out farther.
The F4U, SBD and B-26 will be in the shop.
Since the shop is not heated (at least too expensive to heat) I'll wrap plastic around the perimeter and put a 100 watt bulb inside the enclosed area.
House storage:
The P-61. C-45 and F6F went into one spare bed room and the F9F on the piano.
The P-47 will go in the other spare bedroom along with the 'hanger queen' yellow P-38: yeh, yeh, one of these days, I'll fly the yellow P-38 the F7F and F-86. (now that I've got the comparf F4U, I should sell the TF F4U).

Winter projects:
Ziroli C-45 twin beechcraft.
Ziroli 118" B-25.
BUSA 107" N28 Nieuport.

Sam, you don't have too many airplanes - you have too small of a garage

I didn't know you had a F7F - who's kit is it, what engines, span, etc ?

Don't fear the Yellow P-38. It is a great flying airplane. Take off with half flaps and keep your speed up when landing and it is very well behaved. What engines do you have on it?

JPate,
Too many airplanes: that's on oxymoron!
The F7F is an 83" from Palmer plans with a couple saito glows.
Got a couple 38's in the P-38: no fear with over 500 flights on twins, too many planes and not enough time!

Jeff,
Been watching your new build thread.
===========

Thanks, Rick,
SKS video also has the C-45 in the 2009 Joe Nall video.

===========
Winter storage:

Three planes are staying out in the detached shop.
I bought some inexpensive light bulb holders, some cheap extension cords, cut off one end of the cord and attached it to the bulb holders (some masking tape to cover up the exposed wires on each terminal). It gets down to 20's (with short bursts of teens) during the winter, so I'm figuring 100 watt bulbs (the old kind that creates heat that can't be sold, effective last January) will keep the planes warm while wrapped in plastic. The plastic was some heavy duty 8' wide roll of plastic that I got at home depot.

Sammy,
The video looks great!
The bird looked a little pitch sensitive towards the end.

Thanks guys.
Besides the 'stick' time, I really miss the camaraderie and sitting around telling 'war' stories.
Only another week and I'll be looking forward to Spring!
I'm looking forward to attending the same number of flyins as I have in the past.
So, during the winter, I may not be able to fly but I can reminisce all the good memories of all the past seasons, seeing old friends as well as making new ones.
Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and enjoy the beauty of the holiday with your family and friends.

Merry Christmas Sam. Looking forward to more flying adventures this summer. Rest up. Maybe this year we can get the two SBD's up together. Mine is kind of pokey though. It was particularly pokey in Denver at WOTR.

14' F-86 (across the 'pond', of course!).
I'm surprised there's an 8' long antenna on the transmitter!

=============
some impressive RC planes at a meet that I think is in France:
(looks like the left aileron locked up on the 109 while landing)
(there's several videos that automatically start: all nice stuff)
(almost seems like the planes have to have a moki in order to fly at the meet!)
(the pilots of the 190's do outstanding landings)
