Thanks fella's.
You can still find a kit from time to time on RCU, RCG or ebay.

You could give this site a try.

http://www.flyhobbies.com/extra330lscalekit.htm

I don't know if it's legit, so good luck.

It would be interesting to know if a dealer really still has one of these kits in stock. Spent of the day so far working on the power end, throttle push rod, smoke pump, smoke pump battery is a 2 cell LiFe, ignition battery is a 4.8 v 1800 SC Nicd. Have the fuel tank location set and setting up the smoke tank, other odds and ends. Impluse have you figured out the choke set up?

I haven't thought much about throttle and choke (servo?) setup. I've been kicking that can down the road, but I am now running out of road! I did make progress this weekend. Got the spinner cut, made/arranged my cockpit components, tightened up the cowl/fuselage joint, and mounted two of those cowl mounting blocks in the wheelpants for extra support. Weight in the pics is 20.5 lbs. Educated guess on servos, batts, and mufflers brings me slightly above 23 lbs. I may go the Fiji route on the tank, and/or use a single rudder servo.

I also have a covering dilemma now. Mono has the red I like, Ultra has the blue!

I don't know about putting one over the other but i do have a .40 profile Wildcat with both Mono and Ultra, that worked out ok. Got the throttle servo set up, that wasn't bad, it is the choke that has me baffled at the moment, i am thinking that after the exit air hole is cut out of the bottom of the cowl we may be able to reach inside and activate the choke by hand or a simple formed piece of wire. I won a 40 ounce Roto Flow tank at the Scale Nationals last summer so will be the main fuel tank, which is all set up and plumbed as of today. The smoke tank will be a Sullivan 24 ounce that i already had. It will sit across the fuse just below the instrument panel, close to the CG. By the way, i like your pilot.

The covering sequence would be wrong if I used both brands. Now that you mention it, I can reach the choke arm through the air cutout. It's a little awkward, but can be done. Thanks on the pilot. I have his 33% "brother", and just didn't like the fit. In full scale photos, the pilot fills the space out. Right now I'm drilling and screwing (lol) the canopy. I'll post a picture later. How has the side sheeting held up on yours? Every other time I assemble the plane, I crack off some of the sheeting around the wing cutout.

Good one....
So far only one crack in the wing opening area, thankfully before covering. That certainly is a weak spot on this plane especially along the bottom of the wing.

Now I got a bunch of screws to hide on the inside. I'm also going to need to use a sloooooow glue in order to get all those screws in before it dries. Maybe 60 min epoxy? Or silicone?

I would probably go with the 60 minute epoxy that will take ~120 minutes to set up.....

No pics tonight. I ordered some shorter screws for the canopy so they don't stick out so bad. I also cut my muffler holes and started thinking about the throttle and choke. It seems that the throttle will be inside the box near the bottom. I really didn't want holes in the firewall, but unless I can figure out how to reverse the throttle arm, that's how it's gonna be. I think I will drop a choke rod straight down through a grommet in the cowl. Out of curiosity I measured my right thrust and it's 3 degrees. I hope that's not too much.

The right thrust amount sounds right. Your conclusion regarding the choke is the about the same as mine. I believe i will attach a ball link to the choke arm, i have one of these http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXEMG0&P=7 then install a wire pushrod through a grommet after the cowl is in place. I mounted the throttle servo on the supplied servo tray with a solid wire push rod through a piece of nyrod.

A lot of odds and ends tended to this weekend. The horizontal stabs are glued in place (versus removable per the design), most of the radio equipment is set up. The choke rod worked out fine. I tend to worry about the small stuff too much. Still need to add some sort of grommet to the cowl. The switches will be here tomorrow so after that it will be just more finish work and setting up the smoke tank and lines. Still have some tail heavy issues, it looks like it is going to take some dreaded dead weight up front to get the CG set properly.

Sorry about the weight. You can't throw the batteries up front to deal with it? I keep doing little things here and there. I managed to get a good spatter paint coat in the cockpit this morning. I doubled up the sheeting around the wing cutout which made it much stiffer. I started pricing servos and receivers last night and I'm still recovering! 8 strong digitals and 2 receivers ain't cheap.

All the batteries are in the cowling area and still tail heavy. I ground a lot of plastic and wood out of the cockpit insert and reduced its weight by 14 ounces. That should help, i need to get my wife in the workshop and check the CG again to see where it is now. I understand about the radio equipment.... sticker shock.

If you have 4 servos in the tail, how about just one monster servo on the rudder? I know a guy who made his pull-pull. His plane had other issues though.

I am only using one rudder servo, it would have been a good idea to put it in the cockpit area but it is too late at this point. The horizontal stabs were basically framed up when i bought the kit from the previous owner, I noticed at the time they were heavy. I should have rebuilt them, hind sight is a wonderful thing.

Put some tristock up in the motor box if you haven't. That's useful weight!

Good idea, will do that. Useful weight is good ahead of the CG.

14 Oz is a GREAT overall weight savings.

It did help the CG issue too, still a little nose heavy but that is without a prop and spinner. We are getting there, if it does have to have lead up front it shouldn't be too much.

Did baffling today. I started with cardboard, then progressed to balsa. They need epoxy and microballoons on all the joints inside and out, but I think these will look good in the end. I may give them the same gray spatter pattern as the cockpit. I may also block the center of the opening at the top and bottom.
