Thank you Kimhey, Galeb will be in the air no later than May...

Rich, thank you too, on kind words...

New year start working and as I told, on first working day I sent file to my friend Dragan who cut all parts for elevator, rudder and end of the fuselage.
Before pictures of the parts, here is how everything looks on the drawing...

Same evening, Dragan bring me all parts...

I was very satisfied how everything fits. This few parts are compound without glue...

Rudder leading edge...

Rear part of the fuselage...

Part of rudder construction...

Elevator was first part which I made in this part of building. Because everything was cut on laser cut machine, all parts fits very well.
Trailing edge was 5 mm wide balsa reinforced with 3 mm ply in the middle...

First I glued ribs from the middle of the elevator. I used white glue, and always check alignment...

Soon every rib was on position...

Before glue was complete dry, I add front part which connect all ribs and made alignment in the front of the elevator...

On that part come three 3 mm balsa plates which will care leading edge...

While the glue dries on elevator, I glued few other parts...

When glue was dry I take down elevator from the working table. Unfortunately I brake small part of rib number 3. That rib was made from ply and in that rib will come servo.
Between rib 3 and 4 I glued two, on every side of the elevator, small hard wood for fixing servo doors...

Than I put balsa plank to check how it lie down... This balsa was cut on laser cut machine also...

Everythin was perfect, so I glued it...

In mean time I start working on elevator moving parts...

On elevator glue get dry, so I turn this part to check how lie other side...

As you can see, everything fit perfect...

I have few small work to do inside of the elevator, so I leave balsa planks for now. Next was to try how part of the fuselage, which come through elevator, fit...

Bottom side...

And finally for today, moving elevator parts...

To be continued...

Do you sand the burnt laser edge before gluing?

Mark, yes you are right, great friends and we are all pretty exiting about this project.
Xairflyer, I sand a little that soot from the parts. Does I need to do that or doesn't I'm not sure, but I think it can not hurt...

On Saturday I made just few details on elevator. I glued balsa blocks for hinges...

Than add lower balsa sheet. It was cut on laser machine too...

As you can see, servos are in the elevator.
Last for yesterday was to glue leading edges...

Before close light in my work shop, I measured weight of the elevator. It's 250 gr...

That's all for today...

Regards

Mirce

Yesterday and today I used to work a little bit on Galeb. I continue job on elevator...

On moving part of the elevator I glued balsa parts in which will be later make slots for hinges...

After smooth sanding upper balsa sheet was glued...

Next I add leading edges - 10 mm wide balsa...

Finally, everything was sanded...

Who read my topics know that I used some same techniques in my buildings. One of that is gluing parts together with double side adhesive tape...

This help me for better sanding...

Next step was to add balsa parts on the ends of the elevator...

Same was for parts which come in moving elevator parts... First paper template...

...than same procedure like before...

Before I glue balsa parts on elevator I must add 1,5 mm wide balsa to made gutter...

I connect also left and right elevator side to get perfect alignment...

And at the end sanding...

Working on elevator is not finish yet.

Martin arrived today from vacation, so I expect him tomorrow to come and to continue with work on fuselage. About 75 - 80% of fuselage drawings are finish, so we haven't a lot to do to made parts ready for laser cut.
Can't wait to start working on fuselage...

Regards

Mirce

After some pause, we are back...

In mean time complete 3D drawings of the fuselage are finished. Martin made great job...

Yesterday I got fuselage parts from laser cut...

Some parts are made from 4 mm poplar play...

...some from 3 mm poplar ply...

Some parts I will change and made it from balsa. One of them is this big part which is lean on the wall...

Fuselage ribs...

Ribs of the removable nose section...

Today I will start with building fuselage. Now this topic will be updated ordinarily every few days.

Regards

Mirce

Thank you Kimhey...

From now all building on Galeb G2 depend just from me and my work, so I can promise that every few days here will be updates.
Here is story for today...

This morning my friend, who made parts on laser cut, bring me last two balsa parts for fuselages ribs guide.

Parts are longer than laser cut machine, so Martin need to made connection of two parts...

This system allow me to made fuselage without plan, and all ribs will be in line on right spaces.
Ribs was on position in 3 minutes...

Every rib fit very tightly in guide...

Rib No 4 is doubled, because first four ribs will be removable for easier access to front part of the fuselage...

Before start working I print two papers to have better view where to put every part of the fuselage...

As you know, I want from this project to made kit for building, so with plans for wings and other parts, there will be CD with animation for every airplane part, which will show every step in building process.

Fuselage of Galeb G2 have many parts, so I prepare some of them on worktable, to be sure do not forget to put every on right place. Every part have gutters so it's important to build in right moment.

Before adding glue, I try every part to check how it fit. I saw that all gutter holes are just a little smaller. For precise sanding I made tool from 1,5 mm G-10...

Working on this fuselage is something new for me also, so I need to think "three steps forward". First I made all small frames...

Small part I glued here is reinforcement for front landing gear plates. On that rib (and small part), are two holes. I use two tubes for good centering those holes...

On next pictures I just want to see hoe parts are fits...

...and when I saw that everything is OK, I glued first vertical part on rib number one, and after that I glued rest of ply parts... Than I put this frame back in guide on worktable...

I made few more sets...

Time is come to glue first parts which come between ribs...

Next step was to put inner wing saddle parts. Of course, here, like everywhere, I first fit all parts without glue...

On rib No 3 I add next part...

In meantime I made bracket of front end of the lower tank...

Rib three was glued in place, together with tank bracket...

After glue dried, I embed front part of the fuselage. Before that I must put UAT holder in place...

Everything fit perfectly...

Last big part on front end was upper plate...

I glued it all, just not glued rear edge, because I need to separate front and rear fuselage part when need to put outer wing saddle part.

That's all for today, tomorrow work on fuselage rear end...

Regards

Mirce

Very clean and impressive building Mirce, thanks for sharing!
Quick question, once you've sheeted the fuse how do you access all your equipment that's neatly tucked between the formers?

Thank you Sean...

Access in fuselage will be from three sides, from bottom trough the wing hole, from front when you take down fuselage nose, and from top under cockpit...
Under the nose part will be all switchers and other parts which are always in using. Cockpit will not be need to remove often, but it will be removable. Turbine and tanks will be put on position trough wing hole...

Yesterday I continued my work on G2 fuselage frame. First I was working on the fuselage rear part...

Next was to add first rib on air intake. Thar rib is under angle, but design of the parts allows you to put that rib exactly in position...
First you need to glue rib joiners. Don't forget to pull through that part in the rib...

Than I add few hardwood parts, lower tank holder and turbine carrier...

Next step was to separated fuselage. As you remember, I wasn't glue rear edge of the cockpit plate, so now it wasn't problem to disassemble fuselage. I must do this to put outer wing saddle parts...

Lower part of some ribs will be later cut down, because on that place will come wing. So, I cut edges on some wings to be easier for me to instal parts...

After that I glued fuselage and add side sections for linking...

In mean time few small parts was adding on place...
ECU plate...

...cockpit rear plate...

Finally I start working on front end. First four ribs made structure for removable fuselage part.

I cut off lower ribs parts for easier position. Every rib have slot which placed removable part in the middle.

I add 1 mm plastic plates between rib and fuselage to not gluing it together, and to get nice gap between fuselage and removable part. All pieces first was put in position, and after I saw that everything is OK, I glued it together...

When glue was dry, I separated front end from the fuselage. That was very easy...

Thanks to plastics, gap is same everywhere around of the removable part...

Few more small touches on fuselage and it will be ready for covering with balsa plates...

Regards

Mirce

For easier building intake air channel for turbine, Martin and I made, on 3D drawings, all holes in fuselage ribs with same shape, size and all three are in line. That allow me now to made intake channel very easy, fast, and avoid building it from molds.

Inner wall, of intake channel was made from 3 mm balsa plate. I glued thin plastic foil on balsa and apply silver foil on it...

I glued than that plate in fuselage...

From same plastic I made outer, rounder side. Before I put it in the place, on balsa which was in fuselage, I glued 6 mm tablet on upper and lower side. Between first two ribs I made little bigger connection.
That give lap for plastic edge of outer side.

I glued plastic with ZAP glue...

I want to see how looks tail parts on the fuselage...

Everything fits perfectly...

When I put those parts on fuselage, I saw two things, first, I need to made front part on the rudder from 3 mm ply, not from balsa, and I need to install part which come in front off horizontal stabilizer before I put stabilizer on the fuselage.
So, I done that immediately...

Next was to start planking fuselage. I use 3 mm balsa for that process. First planks was add in line with cockpit and on the edges of two fuselage curve...

Planks are 20 mm wide, and I see that on some places it must be even thinner...

Every plank was wet with hot water and for gluing I use white (carpenter's) glue. This process will take next few days...

Mirce
