if somebody sends you a drone you didnt order, can you keep it?
You know, like when they mail you junk,
except if folks 'send' you a drone by landing/crashing it in your yard... thats a gift, right?

"Well Officer,
its the darnedest thing to have seen.

That thar privacy-violatin drone crashed into my lawn here,
did like a cartwheel over to the fence there,
and into my woodchipper over yonder...
and we are standing on the mulch of it all over my yard, that which aint blown away like chopped leaves on the wind.

ehyup, darnedest thing to see... wish I had a video of it"

What bothers me is the inordinate concern over the unlikely or potential safety issues but any real lack of concern of the very real threat of the invasion to our privacy that will come from drones in the future.

As things seem to be trending now, there will be two sides. One side will maintain that ”if your not doing anything wrong you shouldn’t worry about that” ... That mindset seems to be growing... We seem to be laying the foundation for complete governmental oversight... and those against that oversight are being labeled anti-government that is now being construed as being Anti-American...

Thats my thinking on it all. But I am worried that the ama will go right along with this an end up with some rules that could be unfriendly to their members an other flyers.
Remember, like I have said a 100 times, orgs an such will always go to extremes to protect themselves over their members if it comes right down to it. Look at GM for instance, their bondholders got squat while the unions got the candy.

Drones over the U.S. are not citizen friendly IMO. I remember that several years ago in Indep. Mo. there was a murder or robbery, an they wanted to use a satellite photo of it for evidence. I don't remember if they ever got to use it though. It was not a popular idea with the local people, guilty or not.

Theres a little in my post so everybody will have something to holler about...hahaha

I saw the report on the national news a couple of nights ago.
People have been struck by stray bullets that were fired mindlessly in the sky from who knows where. It just takes a little common sense to see that the more man made objects we have cruising around the skies, the greater the probability for accidents.
The public will eventually decide what their tolerance is for this sort of risk. If there's 30,000 objects today, there will be 300,000 objects cruising around 10 years from now.
My fetish to see little things fly doesn't run so deep that I can't see a need for limits to this stuff.

I've had satellites, planes and copters flying over me all my life, so this invasion of privacy thing isn't news to me. Google gets a new photo of my place every year. The last few years I've been cultivating a small area in the back yard and from out of the blue I recently received a questionaire from some federal agency [Bureau of Lands?] that I had to fill out and return or face being arrested for non compliance.

Some years ago, a weather balloon landed on the ranch. My parents called the phone number it had on it and agency people came out and retrieved it.

One of my neighbors down here has about 100 acres of flat treeless land. the only thing on it is what looks to me like 2 ft tall prarie grass. Every summer he mows a big message to the govt in it. The letters are big enough they can be read from an airliner, and I'm sure it is on google. I just don't know the coorinates.

He is an old hippie/Vietnam Vet that doesn't have much use for anything that is outside of The Constitution or Bill of Rights.

How could something like that get shot down, crash onto pavement and only sustain $2-300 worth of damage...?

Sign me up for one of those then...!

I'd be curious to know if Mr. Hindi is a vegetarian or not...which would make this guy either a hypocrite or someone with a fascist agenda to enforce his beliefs onto others..

That looks like a hex-a-copter to me, an they are a few thousand bux with all of the bells an whistles. I believe they are from a German Co. There was a u-tube vid on them at one time.

But thats probably what will happen to the drones if they get low enough to hit....

quote:

A remote-controlled aircraft owned by an animal rights group was reportedly shot down near Broxton Bridge Plantation Sunday near Ehrhardt, S.C.

Steve Hindi, president of SHARK (SHowing Animals Respect and Kindness), said his group was preparing to launch its Mikrokopter drone to video..
..
"As an act of revenge for us shutting down the pigeon slaughter, they had shot down our copter."

ok, so where is their civil UAS Cert from faa?

Cause they clearly said themselves that it was owed by an animal activist group,
and the purpose of that flight was to shoot video for that groups activism
... not a just for fun recreational flight by aeromodeling hobbyists.
Sounds like a confession of operating a civil aerial photography UAS per g0801

quote:

"It didn't work; what SHARK was doing was perfectly legal,"

really, is that what thew FAA said when you asked if you were Civil UAS vs Hobby ModelAircraft?
Just cause the local sheriff dont know how to read/enforce AC91-57 & G0801 (sheriffs like LA for example)
dont mean SHARK was not violating federal laws.

Like FAA said, a lot of non-hobby folks claim to be under ac91-57 and are wrong

Looked like a controlled landing to me, similar to what the BEC would do on low battery's.

I'd say that it had one of its motors/props hit or something to only have a few hundred damage an a soft landing. They probably was using birdshot an didn't get a good hit on it.

Hey guys, just warning you up front....

I better not hear any Anti AMA or Anti US Gov "Hate Speak" going on here or I'll have to get one of these copters to keep tabs on you all........[>:]..!!

So you just better all get in step, get with the program, smoke em if you got em, etc.

That is all until further notice, carry on.

The distinction between a "drone" and a "model aircraft" can be confusing to say the least!

Scenario
Something lands on my property. It's obviously a flying machine. There seems to be an on board camera and some electronics.
The electronics are obviously used, at least in part, to control the thing. Other interconnected electronics may be associated with the camera.
There are several antennas of varying lengths.
There is no FAA certificate on board, or any sort of registry number visible. There may or may not be some sort of owner information. A piece of paper is tucked in the innards,
and I can't read what is on it, without disassembly and extraction.

1. If it's a model aircraft, it might have just wandered off, for a multitude of reasons.
2. If it's a drone, it's quite possible that it was used illegally in violation of existing and yet to be finalized FAA regs.

Now what?

I think you best look at the law on whose property it is if it wanders onto your land. If my goat gets through the fence onto your place, it is still my goat, and I will have it back. If it eats your petunias, I will pay you for them.
