Ah ok, well i haven`t glassed or did anything else to the wing yet but glue it together with PU glue so i can still cut it apart with a new/sharp blade i think and re-glue it using the 6 mm dihedral it would be a pitty to build it in a way that makes it not fly as it should i think.
I also have the golden gate manual but also the zigsaw manual/pamflet says 14 mm but if from experience you say somewere between 6 and 8 mm makes it fly much better then i`ll redo it i think .

Erik

Place the assembled wing halves upside down on your flat bench. Raise the center at it's highest point, 1/4''(6mm). Make certain your TE and LE are equidistant from your bench top; block as required. That will get you what you want. Atlanta's flew well, with minimal couple, setup that way

I did that on Paul`s advice i reglued the wing at 6 mm

Erik, I wouldn’t place the servo that far out, keeping it close in will be better for flight performance.

Locating it close to the retract works well. You want to keep the weight closer to the center of the wings.

You might want to look at this thread that I started when you have a chance.

Hi Paul,

Yeah i did make location for the retract rods before joining and i kinda joined the wing coz i thought of going with one servo at first but 2 might seem better i was thinking of placing the servo in the middle of the aileron might be a bit of a tricky thing to do now but not impossible
and i think i`ll taper the flaps into the ailerons (looks nicer i think ) and i`m not gonna use the flaps i got plenty of space and all my planes are without flaps and it`s fine i think.

Erik

I`ll put the servo`s there but on their side so i can put a cover over them because the way in the picture is butt ugly i think . So i`ll put them like i laid the servo on the wing .

Erik,

do you plan to make a notch in the bottom of the wing sheeting and foam to run the servo leads? Sounds like it might be the best approach now that your wing is joined. ZigZaw did some nice retract installation work.

Hi David,

No i allready made place for the servo leads. I drew a line paralell to the trailing edge from the box in the center of the wing (were the retract servo comes) to the box of the aileron servo and extended that line onto the other wing half and the with a brass pipe with a sharp end and some filed edges i hand "drilled" a hole in the foam from the center to the aileron servo using the line on the other wing half as guidance to end up at the correct place .
I`ll take some pictures tomorrow when i do the other wing half.

Cool!

Not clear how you got a brass tube in the wing core with the panels joined but I'm eager to see how!

So did the other wing half this morning making the hole/tube for the servo leads . Took some pictures this time i think they explain themsleves , used the pencil line on the opposite wing half to stay on course to end up at the aileron servo box and not drill through the wheel wells

Glued the sides in the center box and filled it up to height with some foam and glued the plywood plate on top to put the retract servo in

Finally had some time again this week to spend on the atlanta so finished up putting the retracts into the wing it`s the first time i installed retracts and allthough i must say the MK ones work really nice it is a bit of a patience tester to get them operating smoothly and the way it should .
Also rough sanded the leading edges and glued on the wing tip blocks tomorrow hopefully finish the servo boxes and glueing on the trailing edge center pieces .

Hi,

Been struggeling a bit with putting the nosegear in place and getting the controls to it in a decent way since it is the first time installing retracts i was wondering if some of you that own an atlanta could post some pics of the nosegear so i can have a bit of a look to see how it should be installed . thank you

I had two Atlantas, well actually 1 1/2. The first had a single retract servo in the wing. It was difficult to adjust all the linkage so that operation was reliable. The other problem was hooking up the nose gear link while mounting the wing on the fuse. Finally solved the reliability problem by installing a second retract servo with the servo output shaft and arm protruding through the sheeting on the bottom of the wing. A short direct pushrod was easy to hook up after the wing was mounted. There was a small increase in weight but that was a minor penalty to pay for reliable operation and ease of installation.
Sorry no pictures are left in my files.
