Tried to get in touch with Phil twice per email this month to get news about the availability of his cockpit parts. No response yet.

Thanks a lot Sean.

Where did you get yours, via Global Jet Club? I've read somewhere they are selling the Hunter in one piece fuselage and I would like to confirm that.

Yes, via Gobal Jet club.
I'm not aware of a 1 pce fuse. Mine is in two halves, with the fin and stab also removable.
Having the fuse in two halves not only makes the shipping crate smaller, but it was also nice to work on in smaller sections.

I bought this back in April and had planned to get it in the air asap! . . . . but that did not happen! other models got in the way as well as going to as many meets and shows as i could, it just kept getting pushed out of the way. A chat in the pub with Steve Elias about the various models he had been building for people resulted in me asking Steve to complete it for me. Steve's models are immaculate! and his installations are second to none! I picked it up yesterday and i am VERY pleased with how it has been done.

Spec is as follows: Jetcat P140RX, Powerbox Cockpit, Futaba GYA 351 gyro on aileron, DS 8321 servos on aileron, flaps and nose steering, DS3401 servos on rudder and elevators, guided by JR XG11 radio.

Nice airplane stand (the foam Robart one)! Sorry, had to chuckle at the juxtaposition of it all.

Hi Jamie,

Can you post some pics of how the front cockpit has been mounted? I'm looking to do mine the same way and it looks like yours has been fitted so it can be easily removed to charge the batteries I'm guessing??

Cheers

Jeremy

So my build has officially begun!! I will be taking my time with this build so will post as I go now and then.

I decided to start on the elevators first. I am using the recommended servos as per the manual. First up was to box in the servo cutout to stiffen up the wing skin. Once this was done I then dropped in the servo mounts and used a good amount of hysol to ensure they were bonded to all nearby spars and hardwood.

Servo's were then screwed into place and the control rods setup and servo hatch cut outs opened up. Elevator is now done except for touching up the control horns with the paint when it arrives.

Next up is the rudder. The control horn has been glued in place and the robart hinges have now been glued. It looks like I can't fit the standard size servo easily in the tail so I will order another of the futaba mini servos I used in the elevator stabs. If anyone fitted a full size servo can you post a pic for me? My cutout is just to small by the looks of it and even with some gentle sanding around the edges I still can't fit it.

Once the rudder has been fully hinged I will put it aside until the new servo arrives and get started on gluing the wing horns and at the same time and pull out the LG and spread some love in the form of threadlocker!

I also received my replacement wheel bushes so I will get these fitted as well as the new O-rings for the brakes.

Nice clean start!
I used a Futaba 3305 on my rudder. Here are a few pics. Hope they help.

Thanks for the photos Sean, I'll give mine another go then, perhaps some more fine sanding might help it get in there.

Steve, I get them from Intairco here in Australia. They are great, They come with a 3mm pin and c-clip but I use a 3mm bolt instead. My friend put me onto them when I was building my viper and I think they come on some of the CARF models. Here is the link to his webpage and the product. http://www.intairco.net/products.php?product=M3-Aluminium-Clevis-%28Pkt-2%29

Cheers

Jeremy

More building done over the past few nights. Rudder has now been hinged and I managed to squeeze in the full size servo. Same Clevis setup as on the elevators. I also had to open up the servo horn cutout to stop the clevis from fouling the hatch.

Elevators and Rudder are now done. Just need to paint the control horns and then apply the weathering and clear coat

Next up is the wings. Not much to show here. I have glued the control horns in and once dry, I will mount the servos and pushrods and then strip out the LG and do what needs to be done there and then run the airline. I'm using Robart Airline over the kit airline, a lot more flexible than the stock airline.

Both wings are about 50% done. It has been an interesting job fitting the servos and push rods. Firstly none of the servo boxes have been installed in the same spot. Both flap servo mounts are out by at least 5mm and the aileron boxes have the cut out in the wrong place for the futaba servo and again are 5mm out from each other. I removed some of the ply to allow me to fit the servo in the correct way. It was either this or have a large cut out on my hatch which I don't want to do as they already need to be opened up more than usual.

So the flaps first. I had to relieve both mounts to push the servo more inboard and will need to open up the hatch opening for the servo arm to clear. I'm thinking of going the way of Colin's method and just creating new hatches with cut outs in the right place. Due to the servo locations I wasn't able to use the kit ball link and clevis so went with the ball link on each end. On one wing I also needed to add a spacer to the ball link on the servo size to straighten the push rod. I had a couple of spare hangar 9 Futaba alloy servo arms which were tapped to 3mm and used. The are great and I am getting full movement of the flap to reach the recommended throws.

Aileron servos have also been mounted but I need some alloy arms and they will be setup with ball links at each end. once they are setup I will open up the slots in the hatch covers.

For future kits, perhaps the factory can leave the hatch in one piece so the builder can cut out the slot. Every hatch my kit does not match up to the servo arm location and I am going to be left with some oversized cut outs.

So while I'm waiting for RCU to sort itself out I'll keep going.

As I can't do much more on the ailerons until the arms arrived I decided to to fit the external drop tanks, as noted by others in here one of my tanks also fouls agains the gear door. Doesn't seem to be to much pressure but I will monitor it once I start flying with them on. Any once got a fix for this?

I also fixed up my wheels with the factory replacement brass bushings and Jose's supplied O-rings.

One thing to note with the new bushings. If you use the nylon washer between the wheel and brake hub the break hub will not sit flush against the wheel and is up a few mm as per the photo. I replaced mine with a new nylon washer that was about 1mm thick and now the brake hub sits as it did when it had the bearings in there. Other than that all screws were thread locked and flats ground into the axels. Next job will be to run the airline and extension leads and the wings are done.

I'm putting photos up on my facebook page. Feel free to like the page and you will get updates as I build as well as other turbine and EDF pics and videos of what's happening down under!
