Status: offline 		The Great Planes F-86 Sabre Micro EDF is the first micro that offers true EDF jet performance and authentic jet looks in equal measure — and it's available as a Tx-R. It measures only 15” from wing tip to wing tip, but offers the scale looks of a plane twice the size and the performance that jet pilots want. A factory-installed brushless motor and a HyperFlow ducted fan unit provide the power and thrust for full-throttle passes just off the deck and outstanding sport performance.

Status: offline 		The canopy doubles as a realistic detail and a magnetically attached hatch that simplifies battery changes.

The F-86's landing gear can be installed for ROG takeoffs and removed for hand launches and grass landings.

The F-86 arrives factory-finished, with fine details already molded into the foam fuselage and wings. Lightweight water-transfer decals add authentic details without additional work.

Ducting runs the entire length of the fuselage, providing a channel for the HyperFlow ducted fan and added scale realism for the eye.

Status: offline 		The box is well designed to keep the F-86 safe for shipping and storage.

If you don't plan to use a Tactic transmitter, the Tactic AnyLink SLT 2.4GHz Radio Adapter (sold separately) will convert signals from most Futaba, Hitec, JR and Spektrum brand radios to work with the Tactic brand 2.4GHz SLT receiver already installed in the F-86.

Although the Great Planes ElectriFly 2-cell, 7.4v, 200mAh (15C) LiPo is included with the micro F-86, it's a good idea to pick up a spare for continued flying while the other pack is charging.

Status: offline 		Inside the box is pilot figure and landing gear. Installing these items is optional.

The included ElectriFly DC powered Battery Charger (GPMM3322) is supplied with a 12v Car adapter as a very economical, portable, and simply way to charge the included ElectriFly 2-cell, 200mAh LiPo battery. Just plug in the car adapter to power the charger and plug in the white charging connector on the battery. Optionally, you can buy the Great Planes Micro AC/DC 2S LiPo Balancing Charger (GPMM3321) for charging at home.

The 12-page manual is well-written and loaded with information on handling, charging, setup, and usage. The Tx-R data sheet has an AnyLink Transmitter Compatibility Chart on the back and points you to the Tx-Ready.com site for updates. The two cables supplied with the AnyLink 2.4GHz Radio Adapter (TACM0001 and TACM0002) allow you to use just about any of today's popular transmitters except the Spektrum DX8. A separate cable purchase is required to work with the DX8 transmitter. I'll be using my JR x9503 transmitter for the review.

Status: offline 		A closer look at the F-86 fuselage reveals some surprising detail. The scale looks are molded right into the foam fuselage and wings! The lightweight water-transfer decals add authentic details and are already applied. The ducting runs the entire length of the fuselage for added scale realism.

All the linkages, three digital servos, 4-channel SLT™ receiver, 6-amp brushless ESC, and 30 mm HyperFlow™ ducted fan unit are all pre-installed so the F-86 is ready for flight right out of the box.

Status: offline 		The Tactic AnyLink SLT 2.4GHz Radio Adapter was connected to my JR x9503 transmitter using one of the supplied cables. After first programming the F-86 model into my JR radio, the power was then turned off and the two connectors attached to the transmitter; one to the charge jack and the other to the DSC jack in the back. Connecting the cable to the DSC jack turns on both the Tactic AnyLink and the JR transmitter. The manual recommends removing the RF module or crystal in the host transmitter, if possible, but I won't be doing that on my JR transmitter.

A few pieces of 3M Dual Lock are supplied to hold the AnyLink to the back of the host transmitter.

The normal channel mapping was right for my JR x9503 so I switched to the alternate channel mapping as described in the manual. All the channels were now correct and my micro F-86 came to life!

I set my dual rates and exponential up per the F-86 manual and my own preference. The motor requires an arming routine to be completed before it will operate. This is the usual throttle to full procedure, wait for the beep, throttle down and wait for the double beep. The power system ran very smooth on my trial runs to full power and back.

I received a box unexpectedly at work tuesday.
Hmmmm... what is this????

I pop it open ... Shazzam!!!

What a freakin' awesomely cute little Jet from Great Planes!

I don't want to call it small or "Micro"... I am gonna call it "Fun Sized"!!

RTF weight is what... Under 3 Ounces!!

I don't even have it out of the box and my 2 year old son figures it is the perfect scale for him!!

The cost is twenty bucks, but it makes any of the popular Tactic Equipped ARF/RTF's a "Link'n'Load" with any manufacturers Transmitter!!!

A picture looking down the barrel.... they did a nice job making a clean
and continuous duct from the inlet, through the 35mm fan all the way to the tail pipe!

This is the kinda plane I would like to leave under the desk at my office...
So.. seeing as how I prolly don't wanna leave my 14MZ there all the time...
(and then I gotta r'member to bring it home on friday for the weekend!!)..
I thought maybe I could put that old 72 mhz 6 channel to good use!!!

So I blew the dust off it and created a new model....

Plugged in the ANY-LINK Module.

Turned it on and Bingo!! We had a love connection!!

You can see the solid red light on the Rx.. this indicates the Rx is
link'd with the ANY-LINK module plugged into the Tx!


Here we are.. Ready to FLY!!! (Ugh... We had snow and hail today with
35 mph winds!!! )

And the Green light on the ANY-LINK module indicates everything is as it should be!!!!

I will get some flight video this weekend if winter takes a break and lets the wind calm down!!!

I like the idea of being able to use any old transmitter. The AnyLink appears to be a versatile solution.

My instruction book talked about "binding" the AnyLink to the receiver using a button on the receiver. I did not find any button on my receiver in the F-86 and my AnyLink seemed to auto-bind on the first power up. What was your experience here?

I am gonna say that the Rx and the ANY-LINK Module were linked at the factory.

When I bought my first FASST Rx and Tx module.... they were in seperate boxes.. but already linked to eachother....

I didn't need to Link'em... so I didn't even search the Rx for the Link Button!! lol

I dunno if I coulda found it anyway.... that thing is tiny!!! he he he he

Status: offline 		The expo settings are a personal preference. I started with 30% on the ailerons and elevator. I don't usually add expo to the rudder unless it is overly sensitive.

Status: offline 		I'm stationed in Bahrain and just got mine. The size can't be appreciated until you see it. Picture shows an electric plane from only four years ago...wow! Can't wait to see what will be available in four more years!!

Haven't flown it...seem to have a charging problem. Both lights on the charger are blinking. Tried the recommended sequense several times...just get blinking lights. Tried it with the car engine running and not running. Any ideas?

Status: offline 		If only the green light is flashing, then the charger is conditioning the battery so let it charge for a long time.

If both red and green lights are flashing then the charger thinks it sees a bad cell in the battery pack. The pack may be highly unbalanced where one cell is low. Try measuring each cell voltage on the charge connector. A bad connection between the pack and the charger could cause this too.

Status: offline 		I saw my friend's F-86 maiden this past Saturday. What a cute lil' plane ! His was extremly tail heavy to the point that it took 1/4 ounce of lead in the battery compartment to make the C.G and after that it flew very nice ! I pulled my doppler app and with dead calm wind it did 29 mph straight and level... Looks like I need to make a trip to my local hobby shop and pick one up !

Status: offline 		This plane is super tiny. Its unrealistic to expect that sort of speed from a battery the size of a peanut for any sustainined period.

Plus nobody can see a plane that small if it gets too fast. Best to keep it slow and "floaty" as possible or nobody (else) will want to buy one. There are plenty of small fast jets out there. This strikes me as more of a novelty and should not be a good candidate for hop up mods.

Just seeing a Sabre in the air this small and "cute" is reason enough to make most aviation aficionados smile.

I agree 100%

At this size... 30 mph is enuff.... if you let it go straight for more than a few seconds.. it will be hard to see....
Fortunately, the jet was designed such that you can "Bank'n'Yank" fairly aggressively without Tippy-Rock
qualities.... and.. it will actually fly around nicely at fractional power settings...

When one thinks of a foamie, 15 inch EDF, one doesn't initially have high expectations....
I guess that is part of what makes this jet fun.,.... you don't expect it to perform well....
and then it actually does!! lol

at least... that is what I remember'd before my son took it from me!!!
