Beier USM-HL soundmodul and two cameras VERSION 2.0
hello,
as i said in my postV1.0, i have finally decided myself to put the two minicams inside the tank. I didn't like too much the looking of the Tiger with the camo nets on to hide the cams...
i witte this here with the hope it will be for some use to others, like i have taken ideas from this and other forums. if any of you can read spanish (or use chrome translator), i've a very long thread with a lot of mods to my tiger (some are from my harvest, some adapted from other people ideas)
so, i went to work, i wanted one camera to look from the drivers perspective, and the other from the gunner's one. This second one i finaly did the opposite, after carefull 'study' i decido to put the camera looking from the coaxial MG hole.
one for driving, one for aiming.
i started by cutting open the driver's visor block, carefully opening the exact space in the rear wall to let the minicam to pass. Then filled all the interior with milliput and put the visor block in place.
i tested it and the vision is perfect. now i have to mount the base support for the minicam on the inside to prevent it from moving.

RE: Beier USM-HL soundmodul and two cameras VERSION 2.0
hello again,
now the turret... the very difficult one!
i've spent many hours with this part of the project. First, i filled the led's hole on the mantlet. Then i unasembled the entire turret, gun, mantlet and the other two parts of the interior of the mantlet. i started working from the external layer to the inner layer.
I put the cam to look via the MG hole and tested it. It looks good, the KwK obviously obscures the view to one side.
then i used the rotortool to thin the inner part of the MG hole, to let que frontal of the minicam to sits well agains the plastic. I meassured the distances and marked the second layer of the mantlet, then drilled if out and filed it with care until the cam sits very adjusted and without wobbling.
After this was done, i did the same with the third and last layer of plastic that forms the gun mantlet.
then the problems started... as the cam is long, it collided with the gun elevation axis and his support... so i have had to dremel out the support entirely and made a new one from a piece of some type of metal in L shape. I moved the support 4mm to the center, and then cut the gun axis 4mm too, to let space for the camera body.
In this manner, it is coaxial to the gun and moves with it.
Now was the turn of the lower support, the part that sits on the bottom of the tower. I cut it too, made another support and moved it 5mm to the inside. This time were 5mm and not 4mm because i glued the 'discarded' original plastic support to the top of the new metal support, so meanwhile the glue was drying, i put the two pieces togheter and the plastic moved slightly, matching exactly the form of the upper part.
after gluing all the new pieces in place, i put the cam on his support, closed the two parts and tested it. No problems at all!
today i will test the cam from his new location, and post some pictures of the gunner's 'view'

I'm still waiting for someone to build an all in one system. wireless Camera, receiver and wireless monitor that can be mounted on your transmitter.
I can't believe no one has ever developed a commercial system like this like they have for the airplanes.

i agree Panther G, it was a bit of a nigthmare for me to decido what cam, what frequency, what voltage, and to find a monitor with AV input... the worse is that the usb pen to connect to the computer as to record the images, are incompatible with vista nor W7, so i'm stuck with XP in my big computer at home, in no way i've succeded in cinnect the usb recordig device to my laptop in order to record video in the 'wild', only in my home yards...

Here you go, and it will record the video you shoot to a standard SD card.

good finding Phil,
but for me, a display of 2.5" is way tooooooo small, mine is 7" and cost me 60€, the two cams (with two receivers) 72€, the usb capture device 15€, 147€ in total (180$), with shipping included, is more expensive, but with a wider display and two cams (and one extra receiver just in case).
Also, the model of the link you kindly provided us, is about 20x20mm, mine is 10x10mm, so more easy to conceal inside the tank. I've to say that i had choosen the cam because the little profile.
I've to admit that the feature of record the images in a SD card is very useful, but -again for my personal preferences- driving and shooting looking to a 2.5" display is hard at least.
best regards!

I'm waiting for a system that'll work with an iPad. They have them that tap into existing CCTV via wifi and there's a nanny-cam type, so they should be around the corner.
Ideally one of those keychain cameras whose Rx plugs right into the iPad. I have a interface that allows me to plug basses in and power them, I would imagine a wireless camera could work that way too.

That does look sweet. There seems to be a slight delay from the wifi, which may or may not affect using it for battling. It's hard to really tell from the video.
I'm looking for a direct 2.4 RX hookup to the iPad.

Bam. Here you go. This is a little big but would still fit in a tank. At a minimum you could temporarily doublestick it to the turret top temporarily. No problem with limited channels. You could probably hack the case and get rid of the battery and end up with something much smaller. I could see my iphone in landscape secured to the top of the transmitter.

Can someone direct me to a similar product?
I agree, a device that used bluetooth or wifi coupled with an ipod would be an easy way to broadcast/facetime a camera.
