I am looking to buy my first RC helicopter after some time on the simulator.  I am considering the Walkera CB180D and CB180Z.  One reason I am considering the older "D" model (if it is still available) is that the tail motor can be upgraded to a direct drive with a kit from RTF-heli.com.  I am under the impression that the torque tube and rear gears are unreliable and prone to break down in both models, while direct drive without tube and gears is more reliable.  Is this correct?  I am primarily interested in a reliable heli which is easy to fly for the beginner.  Any thoughts?

Mike
