Im having issues with my truck running right. When cold, the engine seems to start without any trouble. Runs ok, not great but ok. Im setting up the needles to make it run better, but if the engine stalls out, or I shut it off, I cant seem to get it to start again for an hour or so.

First question is the choke valve. Im not sure of the correct setting for the valve to be in while running. Should the vavle(handle) be possitioned straight up and down? When I put it in that position it seems to almost shut the fuel off. Placing it in the *9:00* position is full on choke from what I have figured out. Then when you move the position to aprox 11:00  there is some resistance and it sort of *clicks* in place, is THAT the run possition? Again moving it alittle more towards the 12:00 position it *clicks* again to horizontal and almost seems to shut the fuel off. Am I on the right track?

Second question. The fuel has sat in the truck for 6-8 months without running. Could that be more of the issue than a bad set up, or just bad carb? I can get it to run, and at full throttle it seems to run great, it will idle..rough, but will idle for about a minute or so, than shuts off unless I manage the RPM's to keep it running. Again, its frustrating me because I cant seem to get it started again after it shuts off. I set the needles back to factory and have tried to follow the carb setting videos I have found, nothing seems to affect starting it when warmed up.

Third, the little primer bubble on the top of the carb, Instructions say to press that bulb until its hard, but mine never seems to get HARD, just has more resistance after about 4 presses, than stays what I would consider semi-hard.

Should I be looking at getting a new carb? My arm is killing me from trying to start the *easy start * motors..lol and blisters are starting to form on my fingers..Is a new carb a good start to fixing this or could the ENGINE itself have issues I guess is my basic question.

Thanx Guys.

put in new fuel and maybe a spark plug.
on the primer push it till you see it full of fuel.
it sounds like your fuel is bad and your carb may be gummed up some from sitting.

Cold
those choke arms are lined up with the choke plate
if the arm is horizontal, so is the plate.
If you're running gas W/methanol, the pump diaphragm will distort if you don't run it dry at the end of the day.
If it starts cold and not hot, check the screws on the intake manifold, they may be loose .

While you have it running, spray some start gas or similar between the carb and cylinder to see if the idle changes, if so there is a leak somewhere that will foul the fuel to air-mix. It can also be some cracks in the cylinder that expand when the engine gets hot making it loose compression and again maybe alter the fuelmix.
