These are the top 10 things I've come to realize in the first seven weeks I've been into 'the hobby.

1. Seeing/hearing/feeling the screaming power of a nitro rc car as it drives to and fro is one of the most beautiful things I've ever experienced..
2. This hobby requires a lot of patience, willingess to learn, and above all tencacity. (i,e, Tuning). ;-)
3. Before starting a Nitro engine, you better be darn sure the carb is not open. If it's the first time you've started it - don't just be sure...check it!
4. This is an expensive hobby.
5. Folks in this hobby share a good bond. If you meet someone on the street who is also in to 'the hobby', you both instantly have a lot to talk about.
6. Jumping off ramps (properly) is not as easy at it looks.
7. You get what you pay for.
8. Maintaining your vehicle/engine is extremely important - and 1/2 the fun.
9. I am spending quality time with my 11-year old son, who is just as much into 'the hobby' as I am.
10. Don't be afraid of your vehicle - anything is possible.
BONUS: My favorite 'activity' to do is tear down and engine, clean every piece, and keep it running like brand new. ;-)

at 10 im afraid of one of my cars, BECAUSE anything is possible.

i have made it evil, torsen center, jammin racing engine (with suspected porting) jp2 pipe, aluminum clutch, it seriously goes 0-50 in a few feet and it just barks, most definately the most powerfull thing i have ever driven and its a tank (1/8 ofna)
ive had a run-away on this car before i have installed the race engine/pipe thanks to a crappy traxxas RX, its now 2.4ghz but im still nervous to drive it because the fear of a run-away

which brings me to the point, ALWAYS USE A FAIL SAFE AND ALWAYS ALWAYS TEST IT BEFORE YOU START THE ENGINE!!! oh and dont make it go WOT in failsafe mode

also a great tip, when using AA rec packs- always electrical tape them to keep them from coming out in a crash or jump, and always put in coushioning for the REC and lipo battery if equipped.

Shark, I had to laugh out loud at how your scared of your ride, as it does sound like a beast!

Regarding the fail safe - I set that on my OFNA Hyper 7 - in neutral per the instructions. However, I have read some horror stories concerning a fail safe malfunctioning. How can I test it?

Thanks!

You want to set it so it applies the brake if signal is lost. Test it by shutting your transmitter off, the servo should go to the full brake position.

i will have to post a on-board vid, you will see how fast this thing tops out, brushless has nothing on it.

today i landed HARD, suddenly i lost all steering input and throttle response became sluggish, walked over to the car and tested the servos- they just twiched, turns out the lion battery i had in there (wrapped in foam) died completly from impact, YET AGAIN a very possible, scary run-away.

im still not convinced with lion REC packs, i will keep the weight and use my trusty NIMH AA's
