Hi Art
The black stuff is that new Zap extra strenght glue. I figured it would help, plus make it look like there is a weld joint after it's painted. I have to say I'm not looking forward to cross wiring this fuse. My 1/2 scale D-8 was hard to do and this one will be even harder for it flexes easier. The large proctor swages will work wonderfully on the wire I have. Next up will be the tail post.

Well it has finally happened! Achim Ingels web sites are gone for good. I went on this morning to find they all have been taken off the internet. THIS IS AWEFUL period. So much info to full scale and model builders gone. That man has helped us more than he relizes. It's sad it has to come to this. I only wish that some day all his info will be avalible to us again. He is no doubt the best modern day FOKKER builder.

Maybe he's just switching his websites to another server. Are you talking about the Fokker-team Schorndorff website? I can't imagine that he is just going to disappear from the internet. Also, I imagine his full-scale builds on the Aerodrome forum are still there.

I'm afriad to say but Achim has completely removed himself from the aviation field. He has stopped all production and has been selling off his collection. Something happened and only the ones close to him know why. The last I heard his wife bought an old farm house in the country and moved the family to there. I personally think it was a legal issue, but who knows for sure. He had mentioned that all his work on the net will no longer be avalible. Hopefully in the future he will put his work on CD's for sale. I did copy alot of his postings but not all. The man taught me so much. I went on his sites at least 2 to 3 times a week studying his work.

Did you get any of the D-8? But yes of course I'd love to have anything you have of Achim's work. I did manage to get most of what he had on the DR-1 also a bit of the 7 and 8 but not all. I'd love a file if you could.
Thanks very much
Tom

Shocking news indeed. But life happens...and not always the way we would intend it to. For German speakers, here's an "interview" with Achim (more of a brief "documentary" of his approach to building replicas):

Again, it's really hard to imagine him just walking away from all of this.

I happen to come across this video narrated in Russian. Some really good scenes showing Mikeal Carlson’s fokker dr1 being assembled. Watching this assembly and looking at my 1/3 GTM Fokker just amazes me how scale this model is to the real thing or to a very good reproduction. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NBRdIu0uZE

Great video - Thanks Tom.

I find it interesting how repeating a section in Russian, is much less distracting to me than the same section would be in English. Something to be said for NOT understanding the narration!

Gentlemen
Thanks so much for posting those video's, great stuff, very enjoyable to see. I only wish I could speak German and Russian!
Back to my build.
I did get the tail skid post and rudder post contructed. Came out very strong. The only thing I messed up was my lower triangle support will need further cutting to allow the tail skid to fit right.

Tonight I mounted the aluminum box stock to the fuselage for the wing spar to slide over. There is a oak incidence block in between. Also I added some 45 degree angle supports. I most likely will start on the cockpit area next. I'm still waiting for steel parts from Glenn brackets for the box spars, tail skid bracket, hindges, and some other parts. I also need to decide were the servo's will be mounted. most likely in the rear just inside where the cables enter the fuselage. We'll see how much the weight is.

Hi Abu
I will be using Hitec 805 Metal gear, 343 oz. @ 6.0 volt, two on the elevator, one on rudder and one each on ailerons. Two switches two batteries on elevator and rudder and throttle. And a seprate reciever in wing for ailerons with battery and switch.
I started work in the cockpit area last night. I put in the curved upper support tubes and the cockpit floor support, also the seat frame. All parts are pinned with carbon rod.

A little work done on the forward gun mounts. Made from mild steel and brass.

Still slowly working on the gun mounts. The forward bracket was slightly offset from the tube center on the front gun mount. The rear was centered over it's tube. I still have the rears to make. The fronts were not adjustable, only the rears. These brackets are NOT fun to make. But they do add much detail in the cockpit.

Don, you have sparked my phylisophical side (better know as my rambling side)..........

If I had climibed Mt Olympus a second time, it might have been more familiar, but certainly not any easier.

I'm just saying........

Hey Guys
I just figured I would post up a few pics of my pilot that I have coming for my 1/2 bird. I am hoping we have it done by the start of flying season next year. I talked my good friend Patti down in Australia at Propper Little People to do a 1/2 figure for me. She has him about done she just needs to finish up his leather flight suit now. Should hopeful have him here by the first of the year.

I am not sure if she will do any more. I had to realy talk her into this one as she stopped producing pilots. But if enough of us call and email her maybe she will start up again. out of the 6 or 7 I have gotten form her they have all been a work of art.
