I know these steps of laminating and gluing are boring, but that's part of the build. I have to show all steps for this is a build along with others that are also building these 1/2 scales.
As you can see I've cut out a pat. to a half elevator. And also the rudder has been removed from it's pat. I am using 6 pieces to each outline. I also have ripped up another batch of stock.

Well I have laminated enough tail feathers to build three Fokker Driedeckers!
I am waiting for more parts and plans from Glenn before I can move forward on this build. I used Polar for lam stock. Not maple as I usaully do. The polar was much cheaper to buy and is easier to sand, and still comes out very strong. The extra parts are for my friend in FLA and Glenn's Driedecker. Again the computer won't take the pic's so I'll post them at a later time.

You Got that covered fast! What did you use for a system? Coverall? I will be using GTM's real linen and dope on mine. It's the best way to get the streaking to come out totally correct. I will be excited to see you at Rhinebeck and fly this!

What are all the half scale DR1s gonna use for wheels? Have you and Glenn talked about that?

I am having problems finding a 13 or 14 inch bicycle wheel and tire with the proper cross section for the tire.
I need a 13 1/2 inch wheel/tire combination for my half scale N-11.
What size do you need for it to be the scale size for the DR1?

1.7oz uncertified aircraft fabric and koverall. Using a combo of Nelson paint and Lowes exterior flat. I found 14" front bicycle wheels($40.00/pair) and built a bearing hub to suit my axle.

I have looked at the Herbie web site ......... it looks to me like all the rims and tires are very much like the old baby buggy wheels that we used to get from Basla USA, the only difference being the spokes and hubs are of a much higher quality. The tires look like heater hose. I suspect that the tires would roll off the rims with only a small amount of side force (just like the old baby buggy wheels). I really don't know, but for 172 Euros plus shipping, I'm not gonna be the Guenia Pig who finds out if they are adiquate or not!

Has any one had first hand experience with the large Herbie wheels?

Where did you find the wheels?

They look to be close to the proper size and cross section......and the tread isn't to far off, either.

http://www.MorganCycle.com 14"/1.75 inflatable front wheels and rim $20.00 each. I'm trying to paint the white wall don't know how long it will stay painted. Even thought of sanding down the tire to get rid of the tread.
Good Luck.

The wheels I used on my 1/2 scale Fokker D-8 are much like yours. I used a white tire and sanded the tread off.

Thanks for the link! I think these wheels and tires are a good start......and yes, sanding off the tread would enhance the visual.

It means the RCU servers/photo upload scripts aren't working...again. This has been hit and miss ever since they switched over to new servers (and a new company) almost two years ago. I get this message about 1 in ten times when I try to post photos on RCU.

I'm uploading this photo (on May 16th, on my Mac running Firefox) as a test. It seems to be working (for me, at this time). But it has been hit and miss for at least a year. That's why I started posting my builds on other forums.

I haven't tried loading any for a while, lets see if this prints. If it does this is an EIII fuselage at 1/2 scale sitting on the wall units in my living room

TK,
I will watch and learn, subscribed to your build. Seeing "the Jasta" at Dayton 2014 will be awesome. I'm planning to make it.

Until then, you might be able to make a WW-1 air show with four DR-1s replicas flying, one in the anchor scheme,

Hello TK,

I know exactly how you feel. This is far too annoying........ I wanted to send you a little inspiration to help your build but I cannot upload any pictures either. There is a full size replica DR1 that looks exactly like the one you are building near to where I live. I've seen the plane flying on more than one occassion and it is INCREDIBLE. Better yet, the man who ownes it also ownes three other full scale replica DR1's, two full scale replica D7's, a full scale replica C1 and a full scale replica Halderstadt. Actually, I've seen all of the planes flying together in formation. The site made every hair on the back of my neck stand straight up. It was AWESOME. If the powers that be ever decide to fix the problem, I will load the pics for you.

If you decide to move your build thread to another forum, please send me a PM saying where you moved it to. If you'd like to see any of the pictures I have, let me know and I'll email some to you.

Keep up the great work......................

David
