Status: offline 		Listed my A10 for sale, Mibo, twin 120s.

I received many normal inquiries and replied to questions accordingly and as soon as I could.

One person asks me if it can carry a "payload" and then if there are FAA regulations about flying it etc.


SO, that sounded odd to me that anyone who is remotely interested in jets would not know something more than to ask these questions - especially together.

Now, perhaps I was oversenstivie to these key words.

Now I have recieved an email from this person who feels that I was listing this in order to scam/spam information on potential buyers, what a joke.

For those who know me, I hope you can imagine how far that is from the truth.

I felt that my concern regarding this enquiry required caution in response give some of the recent headlines about recent model jet stories that have been les than favorable...


Would you sell your jet to a person with these questions?

Status: offline 		Dave, your interested person may be naive or young or stupid. It's difficult to know with out knowing the person. Personally I would sell to him for the right $.

You will have his personal information upon the sale. If you feel it's important to inform the authorties (FBI) you are free to do so.

Status: offline 		If it were me I wouldnt entertain an offer from someone like that. It a really nice looking model and I'm sure you'll find a responsible, experienced buyer. You owe it to the jet community to make a wise choice on this one. The hobby we all enjoy so much can't afford bad press, or worse an avoidable accident. That's my two cents.

Status: offline 		Probably not. The fact that you are concerned and asking answers the question IMO. This doesn't sound like a modeler that is ready for a large jet. If you did sell it to him and the person did have nefarious intent that he carried out, the authorities would be asking you a LOT of questions....were you suspicious? Did you notify anyone? Why not?

I would play it out and see if you remained concerned or not. If you are, I would report it. You might be doing a lot people a BIG favor including your fellow modelers.

Dave I definitely would not sell to such a person.

I have had similar inquiries in the past and did not follow up.

Besides, in addition to the potential risk, the personal insult would

be more than sufficient to tell him to take a flying hike ! ! !

Wish I could come to 66 this year but it is the same time as a big work mtg.

Status: offline 		I'm with the others.   Not too worried about the questions but more on the inexperience person who could possibly cause harm to himself as well as others.  I would have a tough time living with myself knowing of the potential danger to others.

Status: offline 		I'm not buying the inexperience, or naive part. I work in the airline industry and to me that type of questioning would definitely raise some "red flags"...
I'd say do not sell to this person. Why would anyone in their right mind ask about payload carrying capabilities, and or about FAA regulations when inquiring about
an rc jet? Large or not? My .02

Jimbo is putting an additional fuel cell in my hawg so will have more comfortable flight time.
The new kit fuel cells are 3.7 Liters each.

Status: offline 		Sounds like the questions of someone who knows nothing about rc models. Aren't those the normal questions of civilians who see a large model? Next will be a comment about carrying a kid or small animal.

Status: offline 		I don't think you are being oversensitive. Those question would certainly cause me to be concerned if not alarmed. I agree with what has already been posted.


1. There may be some naiveté or lack of understanding what you are selling.

2. There may be nefarious intent.

3. Whether it was due to #1 or #2 above, I would not sell the jet to a person who seemingly had no idea what RC was about let alone the technical knowledge required to safely operate a Mibo A-10.

4. If you have any doubt of the persons intent, contact someone (AMA, FAA, FBI).

I think you should give up selling it and instead charge people to fly it on a buddy box.  I'll reserve the first spot.

Status: offline 		No different than selling your car to a clean customer, only to use it on a drive by shooting later on. I mean, how in depth do you want to go as far as civic responsibility? Ever sold a home, only to later find out it was paid with dirty money?
Probably cheaper, still, to get a recreational pilot license, buy a Kitfox and start dropping ordinance yourself.

Anyway, in your case you are just dealing with a kid. No I would not sell BASED on having to deal with someone who doesn't know crap about your product. Too much aftermarket work if you ask me.

Had a similar thing happen when asked to sell a registered handgun to an unregistered buyer. Just said NO. Sometimes it's just not worth the money alone. You're one of the most upstanding jet guys I know. Not worth losing your reputation over money.

I have no intention to sell my A10 to anyone other than a sincere, turbine qualified pilot. Too much time, money and sweat in it too.

I like the idea of selling Buddy Box flights although it would take a lot of lfying to catch up...
