Status: offline 		This is not a bad price for a plane this size. When you consider the detail, it becomes a very good deal.


I imagine that a Saito 56 or 62 would be the bee's knees in this beautiful warbird. Along with some E-Flight electric retracts, especially.

Status: offline 		Good luck with that. If it is built like the T-34, it wont be strong enough for a Glow, or you wont have room for a fuel tank, although the fuse looks longer in front of the wing than the T-34 is. 

I wanted to put an OS 52 4 stroke on my T-34, but after taking the e motor and SC off, I realized the motor would be too far forward, and to make it fit I would have to cut the entire fuse out and scratch build it, then discovered I had no room for a tank, so nixed the project altogether.  I'll just put a larger motor in and 4S packs when I want more out of the plane.

Status: offline 		There are many, many, many  Mustangs in Glow versions to choose from so why pick an electric to do a conversion. If you already own it I could maybe see trying the conversion. but If your buying the electric to do the conversion and save money you will most likely spend more money an incure a lot of headache to make it work.

Most conversions are done because you already own the electric and are unhappy with it or there is not a similar glow plane on the market.

Now if your doing the conversion just to see if it can be done and money is not an option then thats a totally different story.

Status: offline 		No other mustang on the market comes close to the looks and scale of this B model. Especially in this size. Electric Retracts to drop right in.

I hate electric warbirds.

Saito 56 would be sweet.

Status: offline 		Well the T34 conversion is done, so maybe the P-51 is doable.  It all depends on how it is built and if you  can find room for the tank.

Status: offline 		Has anyone completed the conversion to glow for the P-51B yet?  I just picked one up to work on over the winter.  Got the power 32 with it but would love to return that and get a glow engine.  Would like to know how you did it and see some pics.

Status: offline 		I just picked one up. I am planning to use a Saito .40. I am going to look at retract options-haven't found anything cheaper than the eflights that look like they will work. I will post my progress when I have some!

Status: offline 		Has anyone converted this ARF to glow yet? I found a news letter from Chino Valley Aviation that said a club memeber had converted it to a glow pylon racer. Attempts to contact them for details have failed. I have the P-51 and would like to convert it to glow. Some one get 'er done and post details on the mod please.

Status: offline 		i bought the Sundowner 36 for the Saito 56 but recently upgraded the engine to a .72. Now I have a 56 sitting on a shelf. I already have some electric retracts and robostruts that might drop in but will require greasy landings only. We're getting closer.

Status: offline 		Alright, so I'm gonna do this.  I think I'm going to go with a Saito FA-62A.  I want to keep it as scale as possible so any suggestions on a 4-blade prop and parabolic spinner?  I probably shouldn't have spent so much time doing the panel lines, weathering, and cockpit.  All that work along with this kind of modification is pretty much going to guarentee a crash.  lol.

Status: offline 		There was probably a P-51b with a 3-bladed prop, if any Allison engines ever made it into one.
The Saito 62 will turn a respectable sized 3-bladed prop. Maybe a 12x6 3-blade.

Status: offline 		I posted those pictures of my brothers E-flite P51B model.  Just off the top of my head, the plane will be running on Futaba equipment except possibly a Dymond 2.4 receiver.  This plane has a .51 engine with modified exhaust so the nose isn't all cut to hell. It has full E-flite retracts, different main wheels, moveable cooling exhaust door in the rear, semi-gussied up cockpit with radio and antenna, moved the .50 caliber gun placement. Screwed the nose, top canopy, and radiator because the magnets are not to be trusted.I just snapped a few more pictures of it as it sits in the shop.  It is waiting on a bigger pilot, receiver, battery, and welding modification to the muffler.  Other than that, this bird will be flying in the spring.  The weather is too nasty this time of year in the North East to have any real fun.  I will have to post some more pictures over there because I probably don't have picture posting capabilities on this forum.

Oh one other thing he mentioned - It will be a hot one.  lol

Status: offline 		I have made some progress on the P-51. I have the engine mounted. and am working on the throttle linkage. I am going to fly it with fixed gear. If it flies well I will drop in the eflight gear. I will try to post pictures soon. I might be ready for a test flight this weekend, but there is still a lot to do and I dont want to rush the last few steps.

Status: offline 		Just about ready for test flight. The biggest thing to note is that the aircraft is set up with right thrust built into the cowl so in less you want a poor fit between the cowl and the spinner your engine will have to have the offset also. I basically made a firwall and attached the engine. I then but the cowl on and attacked the spinner to the engine with a 1/16th inch spacer. I positioned the engine and when I was happy with it I epoxied the firewall in place. I reinforced this with triangle stock. plenty of room for a 6 ounce fuel tank and battery up front. I needed about 3 ounces of lead under the engine to get it to balance. I am going to test fly it with the fixed gear. if all goes well I will buy the retracts and the drop tanks.

Status: offline 		So, lesson learned.  Don't drink and work on this plane.  Especially if you're gluing controll surfaces. 

Question for you guys.  I have a DX8 transmitter and I'm using a spectrum 8-ch reciever for this plane.  This is my first plane with flaps.  I don't want to use a Y connector so I'm trying to put each aileron servo and each flap servo in its own slot in the reciever but it doesn't seem to be working.  when I hit the flap switch only one servo goes.  i have the ailerons figured out but not the flaps.  suggestions?  Thanks.

Status: offline 		I personally like Y-harnesses. In your case I'd add a 100% mix function between two channels and add the flap servos to those.

Status: offline 		Well the test flight was kind of a succes. I found that the top hatch wont stay on without some thing stronger than the magnet, so that will take some more work. The Saito .40 is a little on the marginal side, but not too bad. The model flew well after I got it trimmed out. Things were going well when the engine quit. I set up for a landing and made the runway. the left main broke away, as the model rolled off the runway to the grass the right main broke away. It was just the plastic in the fixed gear mount and no damage to the airframe. I will have to get the retracts installed before I do any more test flying. I also will be checking over the Saito. I might look for a .56 but I think it will be ok on the .40, but not a rocket. It has potential, but I will have to wait on the retracts before I can explore a little more.

Status: offline 		I have now added the eflite retracts, and a better tune of the Saito resulted in a much better flight. All in all I am very happy with it. I will be adding the drop tanks that eflite offers soon also. No it is on to weathering and adding a few details. All in all the Saito 40 is a pretty good match for this plane.
