Status: offline 		The fishing line retains the wrap on the spool which can cause it to unwrap when deploying the front bar, going to change it to a deep sea line that is thread. Add a little more floatation to the front for the bigger boats we run and water logged MV's. Use a solid bar out front so you don't have to wait for the air to run out of it when it deploys down. Also add about another 6 inches of line to help get bow up boats, like my Shock Wave 36.

Also in the works is a larger one using the same configuration on electronics, rudder, and servo winch setup. About 4 1/2 feet long and 3 1/2 feet wide to pick up our big boats, ie Rio 51z, Pi Hydro

Status: offline 		hi cool cool but why not use a airplane motor and prop mounted up like  a airboat ? less chance of loosing prop or breaking a shaft etc and cost would be cheaper and time spent would be alot less ? just my thoughts build looks very inexpensive too what size pvc 1/2 ?

Status: offline 		To be honest I had these parts acquired from my boats and cars/trucks/crawler. The shaft should never break, compared to the Miss Vegas it came from there is minimal load. As far as the plane prop idea, I would avoid doing that since it would push the hull down when powered, also it would not turn very well in tight areas forward or reverse. Nice thing about having the rudder right behind the prop is is very efficient in deflecting the water flow forward and reverse. Only benefit with the prop idea is that if you have let the boat drift into the weeds, but so far this cuts through the weeds we have encountered.

Status: offline 		They say imitation is the best form of flattery, but I'm not sure my project is close to you re's.  But I tried.  I needed it to recover a 70" V hull so I made it 60" X 37".  I'm using a  Savox SC-1268SG servo, and an old brushed ESC and Motor i had lying around. I filled the PVC with foam. still need a lot of work but It might function,

Just a quick note I also used a bunch of parts from extra stuff from a Miss Vegas LoL

Status: offline 		Here is the rudder. It is simply a setup for a tri-cycle airplane front landing gear, I cut off above the spring and soldered (silver solder) on a semi shaped 1/8 piece of steel I had.

Mikeup, this retrevial boat is working great just the way it is, its fast enough to get out there before anything sinks and works perfect at bringing up a boat that has taken on water.  The front sinks down well below the 2' you suggested. It has reverse and its not complicated at all. Oh well to each there own.

yes the positive stop or center pot has been disabled.

Its all good we have retrieved boats about 50 times so far with this setup so as for the design I call it a success. Suggestions are great and I listened, just because I don't take your advise does not mean I will fail, am wrong, or have a closed mind.
This came straight out of my head, no help, no adjustments needed other than trim, and the darn thing work first time out, why would I recreate it based on somebody's suggestions that are not proven. This is a proven design. I guess if 50ish successful retrievals of 6 different boats is not successful then I am not sure what I am doing.

Nice Winch you have there. I like your minimal inexpensive retrieval boat. Fifty rescues so far, nice. If it's working for you then you're good.

This has proven to be an interesting thread.

Status: offline 		THink it looks good, but looking at the video, it seems the motors are a bit underpowered, timing is critical if a boat is going down or taking on water. Something bigger would be needed for the bigger ships. My biggest so far is a 8.5 foot WWII aircraft carrier made out of wood.

Status: offline 		It has retrived my Rio 51 many times and gets it back fine.Now an 8.5 foot aircraft carrier from wood.You need a tug. This retrivel boat does get out there quite fast. Alot faster than I can row out. You could always add a system to attach a line and use it as a line tender to hook up your ship to a fishing pole
