I tried charging my traxxas powercell 7 cell 3000mah battery on the onyx 100 on 4 amps (thats what the manual recommended) and after 90 min it wasnt done. I unplugged and replugged and it took another hour to finish. The battery works fine. My friend has the same problem with the same batt and charger. Later i tried with the venom 8 cell 4200mah battery and the same exact thing happened. I even tried with a different venom (same specs) and i got the same result!! Wats going on!
Please Help!!
Thanks!!

Maybe (if you used ac power) the charger actually charged at 2 amps even if it was set for 4 amps. It times out at 90 minutes.

what if i were to buy something like this?
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003WJ218U/ref=aw_d_iv_hi?is=l
if i cut off the 5mm output jack and clip the alligator clips on the onyx to the two wires. then i would plug the adaptor into the wall and charge on 4 amps. would that work?

Yep, that should work. Hopefully it is regulated well and steady voltage. I think all of those are good enough to do it. OR for a few bucks more you might get the next higher charger Onyx 200 or even a different one that does 4-6 amps. OR you can use a car battery to supply power to it.

what about a ac to dc power adapter that supplies 12v and 2 amps? would that allow it to charge on 4 amps?

No.

Your battery voltage and input voltage are about equal so you need 4+ amps input. 5 amps would be the minimum adapter that I'd recommend. The one you linked showed was 4 amps and that is borderlined too small.

The range is 11-15 and I'd try to get as close to 15 as possible without going over. Be careful though because many power supplies listed as 15 volts may slightly go over 15 and that may or may not cause the charger to stop. Maybe a 5-6 amp and 13.8 or 14 volt ps would be nice. You could try this out on a car battery first to see if you like the increase in charging speed. By the time you get this sorted you just might be ready for a bigger charger.
