I have a spektrum AR500 rx with a DX5 TX laying around and i want to give it to my father so he can get off of fm frequencies. He will be flying a hobbico superstar 2 nitro .40 size trainer. Will this rx be able to safely fly this plane, or will i need to purchase a new rx to bind with the dx5? Thanks to any/everyone who can send some help my way!

The AR-500 is a full range receiver and will work fine.

I have one each in two separate glow powered planes. One is my Skylark 70 and the other is my pattern plane, a Venus II.

I might suggest, however, that you use a 6 volt battery pack of sufficient capacity (1800mah is what I use).

If it was me, I'd consider something else. There have been a number of people that have had problems with the AR500 and if I'm not mistaken, you'll find that Spekturm dicontinued it. Your mileage may vary.............

I have a number of AR500 receivers, a couple in gliders, a few in nitro birds, and have never had a problem.
