Hello all,
After a 5 year break in the hobby I got the bug again to mess with a speed project, I have some current hardware I want to give a try but not sure what car to start modding...

My choices are tc3/tc4 or an older Hpi Proceed... I am unsure if the belt system can handle a top speed build, I have both cars, and enough parts to not worry about finding any if either car breaks....

I also have NEU 1527 Motor, Castle HV 110 ESC, and 12s Lipo, and of course custom gearing, I am looking for 150 mph range this time around, lots to do.. lots to learn should be fun.

Again im outa the loop on whats good and whats not... will my electronics get me to where I wanna go?

Look up Nic Case and his rc car speed run records. He spent around $4000 to go over 161mph.

Nic Case payed the 161 run all the way and the original 134 MPH car....i think his sponsors only started kicking in after the 161 run.

As far from the car choices you have listed, id recommended the TC4 i had one about 3 years ago doing 105MPH and it handled the speed and the power nicely, Really the tc3 will work too but there is too much flex in its chassis design and i wouldn't recommend it. Ive seen it done but wouldn't recommend it.

The proceed is something from left field completely!? I wouldn't touch that car with a 10 foot pole, not because it was a bad car, but because parts are near impossible to find as are wheels.........The proceed used its own wheels not serpent or mugen. There's adapters to convert the car to use serpent wheels but........why bother??!!?

hmm well that sucks I was thinking about converting the nitro tc3... probly go ahead and make a custom chassis, I have about a 2k budget for this build... So I should be able to get close to my goals....

I've never, ever heard of a Proceed car, and frankly, do not recognizie it as a hobby grade car. Please post a link; not that I care to tear it apart.

Please, truely, spank me a link on this "proceed" heh!  My pregdious must be challenged!

im shooting for past 100mph in my formula car, but im going to have to weigh it down with lead and find a really nice strip of street, ive had it up around 70mph, but even if its windy it can go airborne past that (just look at real formula car crashes, pretty much the idea, just FLIP)

That's not very nice. I would highly suggest that you get the intestinal fortitude to take that back. He's new. Give him a break.

Shame on you.

^^^^ what just happen here?! LOL anyways proceed was a tremendous hobby grade car in its prime, it's just outdated and parts are near impossible to find, if I could find a roller I'd buy one for a shelve queen, I always wanted one but in its prime I was in middle school and could not afford one.

BTW I assumed you ment the electic TC3 chassis not the nitro, the nitro would be a decent choice nic case used it for the 134 mph pass at the first isc event. The electric tc3 is too flimsy IMO

Im not sure what hes talking about but I ment no harm I was implying he must be younger and not old enough to know what the proceed was.... was not slamming him in anyway... and NO i ment the nitro tc3... and convert to brushless a lot stronger, I guess I will go with either tc series. and Not mess with the proceeds... I do have 2 and a millions parts, unless someone can tell me I would have better luck with it ill leave it nitro..

and several other times ive seen you insult people and act like your crap dont stink. and you have the NERVE to tell someone to take it easy on someone? something that wasnt even insulting? please stop using the internet to make yourself feel like a big man.

I'm just trying to help out - that's all.

I'm not new to the rc scene - and guys like me with over 26 years in the hobby aren't familiar with every car. I just never heard of a proceed. I also remember posting why an F1 car wouldn't be good as a basher in a parking lot - and it had nothing to do with your ability to drive - the sand and rocks will kill the car, not your driving.

As far as your personal attack against me, airing out my dirty laundry for all to see, that's not very nice.

Let's please get back to the topic at hand.

Have you thought about a direct-drive tranny car as opposed to a 4WD TC? So far the best kit I can think of is the TC4FT (not the plastic tub one but the CF chassis). They're discontinued and hard to find on eBay though.

The only other shaft-drive 4WD TC I can think of is the Tamiya TB EVO V, which is similiar to the TC4FT, and uses TRF 415 parts.

I thought about that way also... ive even thought about a full on custom built car, I think I will start with a basic production car and see how far I can take it before getting to crazy... again my goal is 150 mph with a production car... then go from there... if any math wizards can tell me if a NEU 1527 1500kv, hv110-140 esc and 12s lipo with some crazy gearing can get me there... Ill be happy

1500kv and 12s unloaded will get to 75,600RPM at 4.2v/cell and 66,600RPM at 3.7v/cell. So split the difference and say you will be pushing 70,000RPM unloaded. What is the peak rpm that motor is rated for? I think most of those Neu motors are rated for a peak of 60,000rpm, which you should be close to after the motor is loaded.

I don't care what the calculator says the car will do at a specified RPM with "X" gear ratio (unless you have a multiplier to accurately calculate drag) it will be way off. You should probably gear for a theoretical top speed of 200MPH if your goal is 150MPH. With a 1/10 scale chassis, 1/10 scale onroad foam tires (63mm), 70,000RPM using a 1500kv motor and 12s you will need a final ratio of about 2.6:1 to hit a theoretical top speed of 200MPH.

Here are a few examples of top speed numbers with different final ratios and RPMs (Obviously, drag IS NOT taken into account).

Tires: 63mm

RPM: 45,000
Ratio: 2.2:1
Speed: 150.9MPH

RPM: 50,000
Ratio: 2.475:1
Speed: 149 MPH

RPM: 55,000
Ratio: 2.675:1
Speed:151.7MPH

RPM: 60,000
Ratio: 2.95:1
Speed: 150MPH

RPM: 60,000
Ratio: 2.2:1
Speed: 201.2 MPH

RPM: 65,000
Ratio: 2.4:1
Speed: 199.8MPH

RPM: 70,000
Ratio: 2.6:1
Speed: 198.6 MPH

RPM: 75,000
Ratio: 2.75:1
Speed: 201.2MPH

I guess a bunch of those AE lead counter-weights wouldn't hurt
