Not sure if this is the correct thread base but a place to start. Curious if anyone has information re: electric retracts. I see that there seems to be a trend in this direction.
For obvious reasons (although perhaps not the best) not having to deal with air tanks (thus a room situation...especially on smaller birds); fittings; re-filling air tank, etc electricts SEEM like a way to avoid a lot of problems. Even if one used a separate battery, perhaps they would be a good substitute. chime in please if you have opinions or experience.
Tim

Tim ,
There does seem to be a trend building for the electric retracts . No more leaking lines ,valves, cylinders etc.
I have had my Robart retracts converted to electric by Down and Locked . There are also electric retracts offered by Lado , ESM and soon Robart will be offering electric retracts (using the Down and Locked systems).
The only downside is expense, but hey -no more belly landings because you ran out of air.

Hi Tim,

I have Robart retracts on my US1000 and whils't they havent given a problem they are more "fiddly" to set up and you need to remember to take your pump to the field
I've just added the E-Flight electric retracts to my Spitty. Bolt them in, connect them up and they work.............I'm impressed.

Cheers,

Colin

I've installed or operated the Eflite retracts on 3 or 4 models now and run them off the flight battery.

No issues that I wouldn't have had with other types (ie crappy landings)

The Eflite shut off power immediately if there's an issue with them jamming (we tested this during the P-47 review) and it works so there is no need to run a separate battery for these.
We also have them on a Habu and Bonanza. There's several other sets at the field.

I've been using a set of the Eflite 60-120 retracts in the Phoenix 7 pattern ship. Only issue that I've had so far is the two very small power wires breaking off of the nose gear, seems to be a common problem that a little solder can't fix. Other than that issue, they have worked everytime!
