Have any of you found replacement SOLID tires for this jet?

The inflatables on mine are a real PITA. It is questionable whether mine will hold air long enough for a complete flight.

I really need to replace these before any more flight attempts. I would like to be able to use the Der Jet wheel hubs if at all possible.

Given the price of this plane I would go back to Der Jet but I guess you have already done that

Exactly what is your problem with the tires? Sad to say I`ve only managed a few taxi-tests so far. Don`t they stay on the rim or what?

I've flown three DJ Cougars and have experience with others...none have had Tyre issues.
What is the problem?
Never inflated my tyres, but the temps here are low so maybe your tyres soften more? You should just add a foam insert if what you want is a firmer tyre. Tyres are specials so you won't find something else to fit.
Have you spoken with Eric?

regards

Dave

Tyres are the least of your worries, having reliable retracts is the issue..... out of 15 odd flights ive had 11 gear sticking  up issues.

I put very little air in my tires. I will post a pic or drawing of the mod you can do to keep your gear from locking in the up position.

What valve set up are you using on the air system? Did you use Eric's manual and take the sharp edges off the retract cross bar tracks where it changes direction into the lock dog legs? Are you sure the retract units are seated squarely? I cleaned up the mounting plates and ensured the units sat completely flat.

Hi Steve/NZjet
I have one of the first Cougars and have never had the problems you are unfortunately having. Great advice from Dave as usual....as he mentioned you need to file the sharp edges from the retract side plates.... as for the tyres split the rims and make sure the o rings between the rims haven't been nicked or anything is spoiling the air seal....great model so persevere with it...
Regards
Mark

Thanks for the retract advice but I do not have a retract problem. I fixed all of the issues others have alluded to and they are now reliable.

The problem is the tires that will not hold pressure. They have to be reinflated before every flight!!!

I don't want to fool with or have to worry over these inflatable tires. They are just someting else to go wrong and can potentially cause damage that might otherwise be avoided.

Since there doesn't seem to be a solution for the tires, has anyone else retrofitted someone elses rigid tires and wheels?

I've stuffed foam inserts into air filled tires and it worked great.

Steve,
I had to replace a tyre having had a brake lock and it would not hold air. Take the rim apart and reseat the tyre and o ring and you should be fine, Prob not a good seat.
Ian.
