Status: offline 		Well Bob, I understand your thoughts.
First off, I was using my little Kodak camera and the peep hole that is the viewer is about half the size of a dime diameter to look thru. I had a very dificult time just to track and find  any plane while keeping the other eye closed.
Here are some options I will try to  use for excuses.....
A:  your plane was just so fast that I couldnt keep up with it.
B: you could fire the video camera operator and use another guy.......but wait a minute,,,there was no other video camera rolling either day that I saw, so that option is out.
C: pay me more that the other pilots did, that way you would have gotten more air time.
D: Fly slower next time and come in last place ( thats the one I would suggest you use)   

Its all in good fun Bob.  Again, congrats on winning the C -main.

I am curious to hear what the Alabama contingent thought of the ROG start. There were a lot of questions from the guys from other areas before the Alabama race about the air start. Unless I missed them, there were no such discussions about the starting procedure before this race.

Yes, Skully, I did see the reverse start, but decided (not assumed) from the sound of the breeze in the camera mike that it was done because of wind direction. I guess I will have to watch again to see which way the flags on the Ppylons are going. Just what was the wind speed?

Status: offline 		Ken, the rise off ground start was certainly different than what I am used to here in Bama. Im not going to say it wasnt interesting, especially when everybody's plane is trying to occupy just about  the same airspace once they all take off and make the first pole .
I guess that Im just more used to air starting here.
The winds Friday and Saturday were howling at 20-25 mph but they were straight down the runway, mixed in with a few scattered stray showers on Saturday, but not enough to make things bad enough not to fly.
The winds were a factor for the guys who like to hug the poles in a turn , as a few of them got pushed either into a pole or into the ground and ker-splat they went.  But man oh man, the planes went like rockets down the back straight with that tail wind!!!
Sunday the wind had pretty much shifted 180 ° but wasnt as bad as the previous days , so that why you see the planes pointed to the left pole for take off for the Main races.
It was a learning experience for me and I have come away with more knowledge that hopefully will make me better.  Whats the old saying....: if you dont try change you wont get any different outcome?

Status: offline 		You are correct with the 125 ft dimension but, that is a minimum and they do not designate a maximum.  Out of the couple of dozen different clubs that I have raced at only a couple were exactly on the AMA 540-B document dimensions.

Status: offline 		Ok good deal. We have only had one race with it at 125" and everybody liked it except for the safety officer,  so i guess i am going to set it out another 25-50 feet back just to give a little extra insurance.

EDIT,... I did find them on their website, but I called them when I ordered mine a couple weeks ago. They did tell me they have a limited supply though. If that doesn pan out for you, let me know as I did order a few extras .  I tried these here in Alabama but they didnt work as well as some other props that are currently in use here.

It is not just which prop works best in the altitude. It is also based on you flying style. While I'm not the expert on this, some props turn tighter better, while some like sweeping turns. Buy several varieties and practice, Practice and PRACTICE some more!!!

Tray is dead on with the prop thing !! I've had a prop work real well for me in one race and would not work at all in the next. I think you have to learn what your plane and motor want due to the conditions of the day. Temp,wind,and humidity all play a part in how your prop and motor work together.. and yes PRACTICE !!! PRACTICE !!! PRACTICE !!!
I know that sounds hard to believe but thats some of what I have experenced............

I live in Oregon and we race at the 3500 ft level. The prop of choice here is the Master Airscrew 10-6 s2. But I agree, you need to test what works best for you.
