hey everyone, i have a leftover nitro rc motor (xtm 15) and i want to put it to use.  So i was wondering if i can get some advice on how to build an airboat from scratch.  I was thinking about following this building plan, www.cajungatorairboats.com/id11.html.  What parts will i need to make my motor work for an airboat?  (prop size, prop mounting hardware, etc)  the materials i do have are: servos, transmitter, receiver, normal hardware(nuts bolts, screws), wood glue.

I think you will want a bit smaller boat for that motor - more like 14 - 16 " long x 8 -10" wide - not sure you will have enough umph to get the gator goin. Scale it down 25% and that would probably be close.
Also, not sure what that engine is for ? Car ? if so you will probably need a prop hub.
Good Luck !

RC car engines don't work well in airboats because the crankshafts are too short. There are ways around it but it's a PITA.

Sell it or run it in a car would be my advice.

Thats the thing, the motor is discontinued so i cant sell it for anything.  The motor did come out of a car that was also discontinued so i cant find any parts for the car.

If you're set on building a boat, an inboard setup would be the best solution to using the engine. Inboards still use a clutch so the crankshaft length won't be as critical.

Even if the engine is discontinued, if it runs good and holds good compression when warm, you should be able to get $20-$25 for it. Put it in the RCU classifieds and see what happens.
