How many volts does an electric car use when running? I know a normal gas powered car when running will use about 14 v. When an electric car is moving at normal speeds how many volts is that?

? a electric car will run from little over 4v to 22V depending what it is.

a real 1/1 electric car will run from 240v to about 380v and hundreds of amps, in short you get zapped, you die..... but i know you where not talking about that

Actually.....RC cars can run from 4V to pretty much as far as your pockets can take you. Right now my highest voltage set up which is 29.6........which brought me to 112MPH on a very efficient set up with out temp issues

Nicase which is the RC record holder is currently running 12S set up which ends up 44.4V which is NUTS the most ive seen run first hand was 10S and it was insane.

Shark i know your knew this just added the extra info!

megancheung: what exactly do you wanna do, voltage on rc cars differs from set up to set up, from car to car, ETC ETC......there is a million sets up for a million different applications. Im glad to help but you just gotta let us know your intentions. Do you want a small car?! Big car? Onroad car? Offroad car? basher car? Speed Car? Circuit Race Car?

Give us a little more info!!

FYI: and someone correct me if im wrong. I think the highest voltage ESC on the market, whether surface or air is 14S i think?!

did you mean i "i know you knew" or "i know your new" because im not new at all, ive been in this game for 17 years.

i know that most big electric r/c use 6s, i figured someone has used more on thier own custom systems, but 44 volts is just INSANE, you could probably kill yourself with that, im just trying to remember what voltage is able to make a circuit to your heart, i want to say 60 volts but i think im wrong.

First choice!!!! That was a typo Sorry!!!

The MMMv3 is up to 6S with brake built into it, The XL2 ESC is up to 8S with brake built into it.... All the phonix heli ESC's are 10S 12S and i think 14S set ups but none of them offer brakes and are made for flying so there not 100% compatible with cars. But people have used them with mechanical brakes and a pixtix adapter to allow surface radios to communicate with air esc's. Ive seen this done first hand its pretty simple but i personally have never gone over 8S..........YET..........

when my picco in my maxx goes out (that wont be for a LONG time) i will do 3s outrunner brushless with a mechanical brake, that truck you would have to do a forward only upgrade.

You might not be that impressed......Out-runner dont spin that fast but will never in a million years get hot. I had a 1800KV hybrid outrunner (basically a outrunner but inside a sealed case) on 4S in a buggy and with 15T gearing........it did 15 MPH........LOL Screw that i sold the motor and got something normal!!!

What i would recommend to you is the black can 1717 from the XO-1. You can get them for as low as 180 dollars on ebay chop shop now and u can basically throw any voltage under 8S on it with pretty much any gearing you want and have either a extremely fast maxx OR a maxx that will run 30-40 minuets in the dirt with out ever getting warm

i know i know, most all outrunners spin like they are filled with molassas, but you CAN find pretty high KV outrunners.

what i had in mind was a 800watt and 4000kv. not expecting a rocket but plenty fast.

my HPI F10 uses a 4400kv outrunner and i can do about 70mph on 2s

yeah, the problem is its too much power and its really hard keeping it in a straight line if your trying to top it out unless you use hard front tires, with hard tires its relatively easy, but handling goes down the tubes, the fronts i have now are too tacky, they bite so hard i can flip the car going over 50 if i turn the wheel too fast, but as long as i am easy on it, i can swerve in and out of turns like nothing i have ever driven.

im getting mediums up front and super soft in the back next time, nice balance of stability and speed.

oh yeah, im now running 64P and with the "super aluminum" pinions i killed the last one in 3 runs, it had razor teeth, the derlin spur is fine, but aluminum cant handle it, i got this "absolute hardened" pinion that feels a bit heavier, we will see how that goes- reminds me of OFNA chassis plates? (and yes i set the mesh correctly, i dont set by paper but rather my eyes and feeling the play between them)

sounds like what happens with stock tamiya TT01e pinions. Spur is fine the aluminum pinion is all chewed up

14v???? my coil spits out 42,000v. so to be technical my motor runs on 42,000v.... my coil rund off 12v and my charging stytem can get up to 14.7v and up to 35a & my choke is 6v
