Starmer, thanks for taking the time to share all this...appreciated greatly. I'm still waiting on a muffler to finish my Bendix but hopefully maiden will happen soon.
Cheers,
Carl

Carl,
Hope all goes well,

Kinverflyer, It's hot as hell here too. 40C  or 104F and 80% humidity.  Absolutely miserable.  I still tortured myself and took the plane out because I couldn't take it any more.

IS this plane an actual plane that existed? or just a copy...

I am looking for a plane for OLD Rhinebeck this year... This would be cool. You have to fly pre-1939 there.

Anyone know??

Thanks

It is a sport plane designed by YT International here in the UK.

OK Thanks... but just to be clear. When you say designed... do you mean designed for RC or did the full scale plane actually exist? I am searching for information about it that I have yet to find.

If it was a real plane... what era is it from?

Thanks

It was COPIED by YT International and renamed to sound original. The original design/idea was a free flight called the Daddy-O. http://www.gryffinaero.com/models/ffpages/ffgallery/jm/jmddo.html

This was later designed as an R/C parkflier, with permission, in several sizes and kitted by Stevens Aeromodel.

Respectully, I must say that while there are some similarities, I don't think those planes look alike at all. Sorry, but the Bendix is much better aesthetically. Anyway, I got my muffler worked out! Hopefully maiden will happen next weekend. Pix to follow.
Cheers

The RCGF 15cc gas engine fit pretty well. I had to go with a small box muffler from JTec. Ignition is inside the fuse.
I weighed in at just under 6lbs so I think I'm set. Needs a spinner and pilot.

Kinverflyer,
I noticed you have a ESM FW-190 from another thread.  How do you like it (as far as flying that is)?  I'm about to maiden mine but she's heavy.

I just ordered one of these planes.

What size pilot would fit this plane?
Would this one from HK work?

Rabdooley,
I think that pilot will be too big.  I used a Slimline Xtreme pilot that is 76mm or 3 1/4" wide and I had to cut a little bit out of the cockpit side to make him fit.  It's not really noticeable but he looks really cool.  Slimline makes a whole series of pilots that I use.

Mine was one of the early all composite ones slightly heavier than the current version, flew absolutely great, pilot error means she does not fly any more (down wind stall in strong winds), powered by a Saito 1.80.

I got to test fly the Bendix today with good success! The engine is still tight and needs more break-in but this seems to be a good combo power wise. I'm going to get a few more flights before I add graphics and a pilot. Pix to follow... Carl

I finally got a chance to fly the Bendix last weekend after initial test flights. I'm happy to report that the RCGF 15cc gas engine powers the airframe nicely at just a shade under 6lbs. I've got it pretty much dialed in and it really doesn't have any bad habits. It seems to be a keeper.

I have enjoyed the flight reports on this plane. I am looking for a plane that will handle high winds well. Any thoughts on this plane. At our flight field, some are using a Twist 40 or 60 on windy days. Windy to me is above 12mph. My test for wind is when i set a plane on the runway and it doesn't blow away, I fly.

I love this plane and I fly it all the time, but it has a low stall speed and is light.  I'm not sure I would recommend for a heavy wind.  One thing is for sure.  You could bring it in at a stand still with a good headwind, but if the wind is gusty or a cross wind it could be a real nightmare.  I'd go for a larger heavier plane if you want a wind penetrator IMHO.
