Sir:

You said the Tiger was covered with pro film can you tell me what that is or whether it is the same as Ultracote? I would like to be able to buy additional available covering just in case something happens down the road. Thanks

Howard

Wheels are Dupro 5", the hub caps come with the kit.

Propfile is what we call it here in UK, also known as Oracover in Germany etc.

Do you think it would be possible to remove the lettering from the plane? I have some ideas for a different scheme.

Thank you I believe that Oracover is the same product as Ultracote which means there is a way to repair with the same color and material.

Thanks DB. If it's just film on film, I may be able to take it off. I've done this before with fairly good results. If there are any tears, I just cover it with the new scheme material. I like starting with a blank canvas and since I don't do scale to any degree, anything goes. My first Tiger was from Dymond model sports and had a strange covering that I painted tiger stripes on and put a banner on the rear that said "Jack's Flying Circus". It had a GI Joe pilot and a Barbie passenger with a barf bag. The picture is in the "show us your pilot" section.

Hey DP.
Very nice. What pilot is that you have in there? I'm just finishing up the H9 version and looking around for a suitable aviator!
Thanks
Al

I have decided to go with the DLE 30cc as I have used one of these and was very happy with it, purchased from Ian at IAD.

Hi,

I'm also thinking about a DLE30 in the Tiger. I have a small problem here in Europe! The Hangar 9 TM is around 1000USD, the ECOMRC from Troybuilt in the US is aropund 390USD, have a hard time to understand the difference when the specs are nearly identical (probably the same factory, same drawings, just a little bit of a marketing twist......So I need to find a reseller in Europe with the ECOMRC plane!

Nice pictures.....

Hi Carl,

Just for you me old mate.

Install of the DLE 30.  I beefed up the inside of the bulk head( for my own peace of mind) with  10 mm ply plate.

With the stand offs she fits just right as indicated in the book from bulk head to prop driver.

I purchased a rap around and it sits very nicely.  Will run a 18 x 8 prop.

DB

Hi
How long are the standoffs, using the ones that come with the engine? Did you have to open up the bulkhead for the carb at all?? Is the DLE30 with standoffs still within the cowl?? And finally, how did you manage to put the 10mm ply inside the bulkhead??

I would appreciate an answer since I'm in the process of buying a Tiger!

Hi Krokko,

Try emailing Yt International regarding sellers:

http://www.ytinternational.co.uk/contact.htm

the standoffs come with the motor and I did use them.  With them on the distance from bulkhead to prop driver is spot on.

I did have to open up some of the bulkhead but for the servo connectors to Throttle and Carb.

The motor is within the cowl but my raparound silensor does stick out.

I just cut the 10mm block to size and then glued it in from inside the fuss.

Hope it helps

I just bought this Tiger Moth and I thought I might comment on some of the little issues I find as I go along.

When I put the lower wing on I find that the locating dowels do not go into the holes in the fuselage.  The wing has dihedral but the pins are in line with the wing.  Looks like if I round off the bottom of the pins it will go in fine.

The only servo mount for throttle is on the bottom of the engine box, not sure how it could work down there.  You have to build your own like in the pictures earlier in this thread.

Overall it looks like a nice ARF.

Bob

After much comparing assembly manuals ( H9 vs ECOMRC) I placed my order with Troy Built Models today.
Intended power plant SYSSA 30. What epoxy do you recommend for all the control horns and strut mounts?
I have on hand 30 minuite Bob Smith Industries that I get at my LHS.
Joe
Dbp7966 are you affiliated with ECOMRC or doing magazine reviews. You have 3 posts on thier aircraft all within a very short time

I am using the Tower Hobbies brand of 30 min. epoxy.  I used it on the ECOMRC  Stinson 108 and it worked fine.

Hi,

I use both 5 min and 30 min depends on what I am glueing.  I use 5 min on the horns as I dryfit till i am happy and then glue.

No I not  affiliated in anyway, I build them and just do build threads for a hobby.  I do the shows in the UK and demonstrate them on the YT Internainal stand.  The reason for three models is to have them done for the shows for 2012.

Cheers

After bending and cutting the tail wheel wire, of course,  I noticed that the rudder does not have a supporting block inside where the wire will go into the rudder like the hinge pins have.  If I had noticed it I would have moved the lower hinge up slightly and used the original hole for the tail wheel wire.

Also I recommend using heat to bend the wire, the instructions say nothing about this.  It is the same gear as in the ECOMRC Stinson and I broke that wire bending it without heat.

Edit:  I will have to withdraw my comment about the lack of support for the tail wheel wire inside the rudder.  I could not see or feel any block under the covering as I could for the rudder hinges, but after drilling the hole for the tail wheel there seems to be support inside.

Hi, Received mine and started. I put all the hardware in a plastic compartmented box, easier access. I am using gorilla glue on the hinges.
Since this is the first time I have used this glue I decided to do the Stab first.. I found that the supplied hinges were/are a loose fit
(holes too large) I substituted robart hinges as they are a slightly tighter fit. Made the necessary modifications for a close surface fit and good hinge line,
applied glue, and cleaned up overflow as needed, end result excellent. I test fitted the control horns, here is where a little guidance is needed.
The slot is too long, the horns, one on top, one on bottom do not go all the way thru the surface. This leaves me with several choices, cut the horn
giving less glueing area or widen the slot. What did you do? Joe

Hi Joe,

Glad to have you on board.

Yes I know what you are on about, I thought I had posted this but checking I had not.  This is what I did on the Rudder Horn, all my other ones were ok.

db,
Thanks for the reply. That was what I came up with. Need to do this with both elevators and rudder. I will also have to add a 7mm wide
spacer behind the horns as the slot is too long. I hinged the ailerons and checked the horn fit, not ready to install the horns yet as I put
parts back in the box after completing a step. I checked the engine mount fit on firewall. I decided to use a large 4 stroke ( Laser 1.80)
instead of a gasser. I will modify Fuselage so the fuel tank can be mounted lower. Need to check throttle servo/ carb relationship. initial
plan is to use the throttle cutout provided and see how that works.

Great.

A chap is flying one on a Laser 150 in Northan Ireland, flys nice so your Laer 180 will have no probs.
I have the Alerons so that I have less down, this now helps in the turns better.

By the looks of the fusalage, it is put together very light, aka 3D slyle construction. What are you guy's opinion on the strength of the structure, especially the landing gear plate? I have been eyeing the ECOM Fokker DVII, but beside this thread, very little information exists on this manufacturer.

Go to airport-data.com and look around and you wil find a couple of photos of Tiger Moth G-ADPC on a grass field in Warwickshire UK,dated 2008.

I added a 3mm thick piece of aircraft ply to the rear of the firewall, this will be a firm anchor for the tnuts. I also added a bulkhead of 1/4 ply behind
the upper portion of the former that the firewall setup mates to. I installed the engine mount and checked the fit of the laser 1.8. No part of the engine
will stick out of the cowl. The throttle servo will be mounted externally in the opening provided. The location is perfect for the laser. I will add a
spacer under the servo lugs to improve alignment of servo and throttle arms. When I remove the current tank mount I will be adding some triangular
stock to brace the landing gear plates then make a tank mount as low in the fuse as possible, this is to align the tank to the engine carb.
I have also been looking at the upper wing assembly, the center section is nicely covered in a plastic to similate the Moth fuel tank. I question the
wisdom of the designers to epoxy the wing panels to plastic. I realise the main wing joiner will support the wing. I do jump around in my assembly process.
