Status: offline 		Here I go again!!! I still have the Sea Fury bug!

I picked up a Black Horse Models Sea Fury from Hobby People. This BH Models Sea Fury is really good looking! The colors are close to the real deal. The printed material is not over done.

A few things I noticed right off the bat, are the wings. This model has a scale hinge line. It does not have a "V" groove see through hinge line. It seems BH has taken the time to step up the scale appearance of their models.....

Anyhow, I am going to convert mine to electric. Here is a list of equipment that I have selected for this model:

Motor: Rimfire 1.60. (63-62-250kv) electric motor
ESC: Castle Creations ICE 2 120
Batteries: 12s (6s x2) 5000mah

The airplane arrived complete with a set of air up air down retracts with scale looking struts. The gear doors come pre attached to the struts.

Now on to the assembly.

Status: offline 		I am drilling the holes right now for the motor mount. Theres really not much for one to do with this model. Most everything is bolt on. It is really neat how this thing is going together.

Here is a template I used for aligning my motor and motor mount.

Status: offline 		All that I have left now is linkage, wiring, balancing and other ground tests. More pictures to come. Everything is bolt together. Just amaizing how quickly this model went together.

Status: offline 		I purchased the BH Models Sea Fury while at the Toledo RC show this year and I am planning on either gas or glow. A few questions for you since you've already started the build.

1.) Did you use the stock retracts? The retracts that came with mine are HORRIBLE! The actuator valve pulled into two pieces when i tried to cycle it. (It didn't break, it just looks like there is nothing stopping it from pulling into two pieces.) The kit does not come with a fill line or valve in which to add air to the system and the instructions do not really give you an idea of how they went about filling up the system. This wouldn't be to bad if they had used robart style air tubing rather than the thick orange tubing that it comes with, which is about 3 times larger than the Robart tubing. According to Hobby People, the retracts are not much to look at, but they do function. (Assuming you have a functional air actuator)

2.) How much nose weight do you have? I have a DLE 30, an ASP 1.80, a Moki 2.10 and soon to have a Zenoah G38 and I have no idea which engine I should fit to this plane. The instructions called for a Fuji 35, which is no longer made, but weighted about 4.04 pounds with muffler. The Zenoah would be the closest match at a little over 4 pounds. I'm curious since you went electric, but then again you probably have some heavy batteries in the nose along with the ESC and motor?

3.) Do your hinges have any play? I noticed that half of the hinges in my kit were rock solid while half of them had a noticeable amount of play. I'm hoping this doesn't cause flutter down the road, but I'd hate to pull them apart just to tighten things up a bit.

My elevator was really sloppy. Take a drill bit by hand drill out the hinge plug, then use a hobby knife and just slide the hinge out.  The hinge plug has a piece of plastic tube at each hinge point try not to damage it when drilling out hinge plug. Once you have the hinge out take a piece of 2/56 push rod and sharpen the end and use it like a drill bit in a drill and run it through all the wood hinges on the elevator. The 2/56 rod fits perfect in the plastic tubing inside the elevator. The stock hinge pin is half the size. When you get it back together it will be rock solid. Repeat the process on the ailerons if needed. My rudder was good on my plane. 

I just put a power 1.60 on my plane and it looks like my 10 cell 5000mah lipo set up is not heavy enough to balance it.  This question is for any one who is going electric, how much lead weight are you using?

Status: offline 		Sadly I have not tested mine yet. I have a Rimfire 1.60 installed on mine. I am using 12 cells. From my early tests, the airplane is too nose heavy. What is the weight of your power 160?

Status: offline 		 Hi I purchased the Power 1.60 easy match motor with a 290 kv from HobbyKing. I am going to use a Turnigy dlux 120A HV Brushless Speed Controller. I mounted the ESC on the motor mount box.  I purchased two 5 cell 5000 mah  25-50c Nanotech battery's to run in series as a 10 cell lipo.  They weigh 1305 grams together which is 2.877 pounds. My batterys are not heavy enough. I think four of them will be way too much weight.. The nanotech battery's weigh a lot less than most battery's. I think I am going to order four 5cell 4000mah nanotech battery's. Four of them will weigh 2100 grams or 4.62 pounds. I can put two in series and two in parallel to make a 8000mah 10 cell lipo. The way I am now with the two 5 cell nanotech battery's I still need another pound of weight to balance it.. I rather add a battery so I do not have to add lead. I plan on placing enough weight in my battery area and see what it will take to level out the plane then get the correct weighted battery's.

The tail wheel does not have blind nuts. I took a 4/40 push rod that was 30 inches long and ground a flat spot on the side of one end. I did the same thing to a piece of 4/40 all thread. I soldered them together. I used my 4/40 die to rethread the soldered piece at the end of the all thread. I used this tool with a blind nut and washer and nut  to pull the blind nuts through the bolt hols for the tail wheel. I fly off of grass so I was sure the tail would have come loose after a few flights.

If the battery's weigh too much  to make the plane level I might just stick my BME 50cc classic in it. The engine weighs 3.25 pounds and is smaller than a DLE55 and will fit better. The cylinder is almost 2 inches shorter than the DLE55 and the spark plug boot is the only thing that will hang out of the cowl. Plus I should not have to add too much weight due to the fact the engine is further forward than the battery's can go.

Same thing I'm doing. I like the size of the ESM better since I have a DLE 55 already and some Hitec HS-5645MG servos. But, I like the looks of this plane as well.

Status: offline 		I Can say for me that this model flies like a dream , I have put in the dle 35RA, and there is plenty of power there. holds at very low speeds and takes off and lands with no hassle.
All up the weight is 7.2 kilo. Will input a video here soon

Status: offline 		well, I ordered the DLE35RA for this plane from TBM... as well as the red power expander and two LiFe batteries from RedWingRC... I have 7 Hitec 5645's meant for another project...

I started out by covering the landing gear mounts and supports and the inside of the fuse forward of the wing spar with T88 (epoxy).

I've got to buy extension for the servos today...

She is quite a bit larger than my BH FW190 and BH Macchi...

What is it with all these manufacturers (mostly Chinese) that put these tiny un-scale wheels on warbirds?  When you put scale sized wheels on them, then the wheel well openings are too small.
