Hi Ya Rob,

Just wondering if you have changed your video codec? Neither 2 videos in the last post play out just get pixelated corrupted video however the audio is Ok. All your other video you have posted are fine.

It maybe my codec in the lappy but I have not changed anything......I suspect others may find they play ok and others not.

Cheers,

Ian

Hi Rob,

Nice flying as usual, very natural and smooth transitions, anyone would think you fly these things for a living! I can definitely see quite a change in style over the last 12 months as you mentioned.

I notice that you do mid air autos but dont land with one. I thought the main idea of an auto was to land doing one which ensures that if the tail blades strike grass etc they dont shred the TT gears and ditto with the mains and main gears.

I've now been asked to stay another day in Hong Kong so the X4 wont be ready for the weekend but I'll make sure the Trex 500 DFC is all set up and ready to go.

Regards
Phil

Hi Ian,

Yes, these videos were made with a Go Pro Hero 2 Camera on 1080P mode but each file was over 1.2Gb, so I shrunk them using "Free Video Converter" to 480 x 272 and they are around 100 mb each..

My slow laptop internet would never cope with uploading the original files (which look rzor sharp)

I'm not totally happy with this camera and will look at a #16 soon I think

Hi Phil,

Thanks, yes the autoroations are to land in the event of an engine failure...

But I figure there is a 99% chance I will damage something if I tried to land, even if minor.......   A power recovery is always a safer option.... If I ever need to do a real one, then I guess I can accept minor damage.....

Its like practicing bleeding.  (thats how my real helicopter instructor described landing after an Autoroation - if you learn to fly in a robinson R22 (eek!) you always do power recoveries before touchdown...

I guess I am just a chicken.. though I have been tempted a few times to just try it, especially with the Gaui 550 which just floats down beautifully.

Hey Rob,

Seems like there ia a difference between real helis and RC helis for autos. What you say makes perfect sense for real helis, practice for a power failure, but all rc autos I have ever seen are all the way into a landing for the reasons I mentioned, and as a bonus, if you had just engine failure with an rc heli you would have some idea of what to do. But you rarely get just an engine stopping it's usually total loss of power and cyclic control. Having said that my first 2 flights with my FBL Tarot the pinion screw couldn't deal with the head speed and came unstuck midflight and I did autos from 30 feet w/out any damage. Changed to a lower tooth count and used stronger loctite and all good.

Best, Phil.

PS - I'm now bored in HK, I've been here too many times to do any of the touristy things, so off to find a new kit to build.

Raining and hot at the same time in HK and so I found RC headquarters in Kowloon, Yippee, So I suitably haggled and got a Trex 500 EFL Pro kit for a bargain. So at last having some fun in Honkers building it. I'm catching up Rob!

Best Phil.

Spent the day flying with a mate of mine today.  He got the heli bug from me back in January and he has been flying for just over 3 months now.  He's into scale but has a blade 450 that he learnt to fly with as well as the mcpx.  The blackhawk and the apache are 480 size.  He's got about 8 in total including a bell.  He picked it up very fast and it's doing exceptionally well.  I had a chance to play with my slr camera so here are a few pics.  Sorry no video but I will get some next time for sure.

Its EFWOSR here, Enraged Former Walkera Owner Seeking Revenge.

EFWOSR hunted down the main Walkera distributor in HK, they are in the seedy back blocks of Kowloon, just near the live fish and dead duck markets, in fact it's the RC industry district of Hong Kong and is called "Szit Tat Tings Phast".
EFWOSR bravely stormed through the front doors of Walkera in Szit Tat Tings Phast district, he whipped off his shirt (which is usually a good thing to do here with 30 degree temps and 100% humidity) and showed the reasonably attractive female receptionist the scars on his shoulder and back from the Walkera 500D01 FBL heli that attacked EFWOSR due to its faulty 3G unit.
Initially EFWOSR thought she was simply overcome by his incredibly buff body and she was speechless with joy and rapture, and so he bravely pushed on and demanded a brand new Walkera V500D01 BUT with a BeastX FBL unit instead of their crap 3g Units.
EFWOSR should have stuck to just the heli and not with the BeastX as he's sure that's what pushed her over the edge. EFWOSR also thinks he may have misjudged the rapture thing as well.
As reasonably attractive female receptionist started to dial the local equivalent of 911, EFWOSR thought he should have stuck with the more simple stone throwing plan.
EFWOSR was last seen running between the bright orange ducks hanging up side down everywhere.
He successfully alluded everyone, if anyone was following that is.

Yours EFWOSR,

Hi all!

Don't have time to comment on all but Phil, BRILLIANT!

Rob, I could do that if I wanted to!

Jonesy, I would love to get into scale but so far......

Anyhoooo,

My "Monday" was KRAZY busy and started out at 0300 hours.

I had to attend class all day yesterday and prove proficiency in a new skill and take the dreaded written "test". Cops HATE tests!

When I got home I had to haul **** to Orlando and see a pretty cool concert which included Nickleback and Bush!

Finally got home after midnight!

Flew the MCP X this morning and was mildly eventful.

Viddy blather to follow!

Off to a very long day of work!

Best to all!

Hello there !
Today I went fixing my bike, myself. Fork oil seals and fork oil change, brake fluid change, oil change and chain slack adjustment.
I was quite tired afterwards but there was my #2 450 which wanted a run. Looked at me and I understood I should not let it down.

So there it is. The cheapest T-Rex 450 clone.
An LH $9 kit, ebay main shaft, ebay feathering shaft, ebay flybar, ebay paddles, ebay main gear, ebay blades. As it was repaired from a crash.
Pretty much the cheapest 450 clone. Nothing fancy.

This is my #2 LH 450 clone and just made some adjustments on it. This is the first run after the adjustments so it is not fine tuned. Just put some values like gyro gain and gave it a go.
I thought I was not getting a good battery run time but it seems I was wrong. It has some editing so some minutes missing. So although it is not at full power it gives a good run time.
There was also some breeze from time to time.

I like it !

It is the cheapest one can build and it flies nicely !
I`m proud I have it on my fleet.

No disrespect to your neighbors, but it's interesting how they seem as uneffected by your heli as Simon's chickens. I'll tell you, if I did that in a similar situation folks would be loosing their minds!
Nice flight Spiros. You've come a long way.

Just a post script,
Flying in tight quarters isn’t always a bad thing. I flew in tight spaces for quite awhile before I went out and did FFF. It teaches you fine motor control of the heli. In my opinion, that’s a good thing. It may not seem like it now, but it will pay off later.
I think you may have joined us after my indoor period. Here’s one of many vids I did inside my shop. Keep in mind, this was before the HK was completed. I too was flying a Belt CP.

Keep up the good work Spiros.

Joaquin

Thank you Joaquin.

Neighbors are not annoyed neither interested, those who have already seen me flying mostly the Big Lama (which flies there, not hovers).
They are either used to or trying not to disturb me. Sometimes a new comer sits and watch.
But I have some fans at the balconies at the summer time.

I`m not in a rush. All my attempts are recorded, so even if there have been some months now you can see that I try every week or so. One or two attempts at the most.
I have find no suitable weather for the mCPX also. The wind is strong, stronger than the video`s, this time of period.
Last time I attempted, after I bought it, I tried some FF and cornering at the alley but it seems too fast for me or for the alley. For me actually.

Hey, this is a nice flying Belt-CP there. Good to watch it flying like this, you had it under control, your commands I could say.
I have said my story moving on to the CPs. If there was not the Belt-CP, a cheap RTF so even if things did not go well I would had not regret spending the money, I would not had started. Then I decided to spend some more and buy a Tx and then I ended up with 8 gyros...
I agree that trying in a limited space can set you the limits and so you have to obey them while in an open space you can get easily out of your limits. And the altitude control is as you said.

You should start making your own custom design high precision parts.
Hey, did you made my camshaft? (White Brothers)

What I liked today is I got some progress at both the control and the setup. If it gets fine tuned and trimmed, no I did not spent much time, I hope it flies even better, so easier.
I changed the radio settings totally. It is more like the settings the Sport is using. I found some settings that suit both me and the bird.

Have some good flights. Where good is always the enjoyable ones.

Spiros

Great pics, that Apache looks amazing...

I put that same Blade 450 canopy on my EXI 450 and it looks great in the air... (did a vid yesterday but 80% of it was out of frame so no point uploading.. I will try again today..)

Pic attached of the EXI / Blade combo...

Hi All,

Yes nice pics Jonesy. Helis look great in flight when photgraphed by a quality camera, that one looks to be quality.

Hey Spiros,

Good to see the training gear off, keep at it I can see the progress. A bit of a fast but small tail wag there from time to time, I'm sure you'll sort that. Also your head speed sounded a bit low, so if your still in normal mode I'd flick to IU1, more head speed equals greater control, up to a point and then it becomes manic.  Man that alley has to be the toughest place to learn to fly - lucky you dont have any real fast drivers or guys on little motor scooters zipping about, or maybe you do. I'd be inclined just to take the heli up to 10 feet when you hear a car and let them go under it - that would sharpen your skills fast!

The build is going well on the Trex 500 and I'll spread it out over the next 4 days. Yes Kozzy, quite cheap here but tough to find the retail outlets. The one I found was cheaper than on-line and I didn't have postage. I saved possibly $200 so very happy. This model has the DS510 metal gear & metal arm servos, very nice!

Hi Brian,

Mate that sounded like a great concert, you guys get so many good shows over there. My son has been playing a few big gigs lately and is set to record in Las Vegas for 6 to 8 weeks with Keith Olsen later in the year (Brian I know you will google the guy now -he is semi retired but is certain the band is headed for big things. . I'lI send you guys a link to his latest song video that MGM are distributing once its released.

Mr Tinkman,

Quality hovering around the premises.

Best to all,

Phil

PS: God I wish I had my full tool set with me, I'm building the heli with a 4 in 1 Align Hex set, my swiss army knife (that I take everywhere) and a $2 set of allen keys so I could tighten the feathering shaft in place, and the grease and TL that comes in the kit.

Hi Phil,

Yes, the alley is not the best place to try. But is close to my house where I can steal some minutes so to try. I wish I had a big front yard as in the back yard it is usual there are trees here in Greece.
The alley affects the wind and there is turbulence, which is quite hard. Even some small breeze is bad as it is not coming from a direction but there is turbulence always.

Yes, I have progressed some and I could try the Blade 450 now that I have broken some 450 clone parts. I`m not scared I`ll crash any more. At least my confidence is good.

The #2 is really not fine tuned. It went straight out of the bench outside. Gyro is not adjusted in rate mode, neither messed with the tail slider centering than the initial setting. Gain was set quite high, at 76.5 on DX6i,  so there is no chance it was low. I would like to use the MD922 with a GA-250 as it works with it better but it`s on the way. So gyro`s foam is used and can be seen in the photo. It may affect it also. And the trimming is not done accurately, it needs the battery a bit to the front and maybe one click also, then check again.

I try in normal mode as I have to land all the time. But I`ll try some more head speed and a closer to idle up throttle curve. I think it will make me maintain altitude easier as now a small throttle stick input change affects a lot the altitude.

Get the best deal there and good additions to your collection.

Spiros

Well, Rob came round yesterday and made a few changes (mainly Gyro settings, wiring and a little bit of head setup). Then he took it for a small hover round the front yard.

There is a minute amount of tail wag, the gyro is a HK401b and the tail servo is a HK933. I am not going to change anything just yet because the wag is really tiny!

Hopefully I will be able to re-bind the Rx to my Tx (after Rob bound it to his), and then have my maiden flight of a CP heli!

Also Ingleburn, have you sent the servos on their way yet as I have not yet received a Parcel to my front door.

Your lucky to have Rob set your heli up. Waiting to see how the maiden goes.

Hey Kozzy,

Well done on setting up the heli, you will be flying soon!

PM me your address, I'll send around a bunch of stuff that I haven't used. It is all new in the box or bag and its servos, recievers, main gears main shafts, feathering shafts, gyros, motors, 325mm blades (some Align ones too) - it is all or mainly Hobby King and or Hobby Wing parts - it will be like Christmas time for you and should cover a few inevitable crashes. This stuff adds up in cost for a 14 year old so I'd like to help out. I might even give it to Rob to pass on if he isn't far away from you.

I dont get back to Australia until Friday this week so could send it then or give to Rob if he and I catch up on Sunday.

Best Phil.

PS; You cant tell Spiros about this as he thinks I've only got the latest Align or Gaui gear, besides he will want it to add to his room full of parts.
