Need help identifying gas engine - 3/24/2012 6:49 PM

Status: offline 		I picked up this gas engine at an estate sale recently, but I have no idea what it is. Can anybody identify this engine? Thanks for your help

Status: offline 		Maybe. The only things written on it is the number "82" stamped on the back of the cylinder, "Made in Canada" stamped on the bottom of the crank case, and "Made in USA" on the front of the magneto. It has a Walbro carb, and has "RT" stamped on the piston seen through the exhaust hole. Thanks for the input!

Status: offline 		I agree, Quadra/US engines. The fact there are no points makes it a later engine I believe, probably a 41/42

Status: offline 		Thanks for your help, but I know the displacement method. I was mainly thinking of muffler bolt spacing, weight, or some other identifying measurement. I will try to do the displacement though. Thanks,

Status: offline 		Ok, I took spaceworm's advice and tried to measure the displacement. Without taking the engine apart I measure the displacement at 32.5cc's which I would assume would be a Quadra 32. Thanks for the input everyone.

Status: offline 		Ok. After looking at some pictures I am betting it is a Quadra 35. Like I said, I didn't take anything apart just took out the spark plug for measurement, so I am sure I was off a little. Thanks for setting me straight!

Status: offline 		Might be a chainsaw engine with some REAL aircraft engine parts - I have seen some very nifty and good performing engines in this category. Who would have the time to do all the work is a totally 'nother subject !

Status: offline 		yeah, I say conversion also with as dirty as it is, and the carb adapter with the extra plastic. The Quadra's used chain saw cylinders anyway, didn't they? Either way it looks like a chainsaw conversion and they are usually ported decent

Status: offline 		While somewhat heavy for their power output, those old Quadras are a very reliable and robust power plant. Once set up they seem to run forever with little or no further adjustment If you have a big enough airframe, you will find that engine quite adequate. I have some that are at least 10 years old and still performing perfectly.

Status: offline 		Thanks for all of the input everyone! I believe it to be a Quadra 35, or something very similar. I plan to put it on a 9' span Nosen Citabria. It should be plenty of power.
