Well it was a open question too anyone that may have photos of how this neat little engine looks inside.  It sure is compact...small !  Capt,n

Ok, so the build starts, I think it's going in the flat Yak.

There was a small issue with wrong prop hubs on a few engines but Top Dawg and Mintor are taking care of it! You have to like good service.

Andy

Oh BOY, are you going to like that.....
Just tame the throws for the first few flights - WAY back - until you see (are ready for) what it can do!

Sorry John, didn't get that far into it. Just opened the box for a photo shoot. I'll probably run 32:1 like I do everything else. I figure that way my little ST conversion doesn't need it's own special batch of fuel.

AjsToyz - Do you have a converted super tiger engine? If so, what engine is it? Thanks

Ed

I was told it was done by Ken Lambert. I spoke with Ken and he puts his initials on the engine when done, this one has no markings. The parts on it look like they are from Ken, so not sure who's it is. I can tell you it runs very well, and I have a Walbro on it with a 8mm Venturi, seems to like it.

Andy

Thanks for your reply - I saw previous threads about the conversions Ken Lambert has done.

I met Ken Lambert in person 2 years ago in Florida. He now is in Texas.  He is one of the nicest guys I met and really knows Supertigers.  I got to get a ST 2300 converted by Ken.  They are hard to beat.and run very well on gas. Ken puts needle bearings on the rod and uses a Walbro pumper carb.  NICE !   Ken...if you read this....takes care, I sure miss talking about & learning from you about engines.  Capt,n

Any comparison on this with the DLE 20? I am trying to find out which has the least amount of cylinder sticking out of a cowl?

I took my Mintor 22cc engine to show the guys at the field. They all liked the looks of it for sure.  I had a chance to hold my Mintor 22 ,right above a DLE20 that was on a Aeroworks 260 profile. Just looking it appeared the Mintor was more smaller and more compact.  Regards  Capt,n

I want to post a way I think may work good for another way of mounting the Mintor 22cc gas engine. By using a off the shelf item...by Dubro. I did make some spacers that could go between Carb and fire-wall. Some one asked about making this engine configured for stand-offs like many engine are. This may work too with some rubber inserts to absorb vibration. May test run the engine soon and find out. Capt,n

Great idea on the mounting CaptinJ.

By the way, you seem to be the one keeping this thread alive.  Has anyone else had a chance to run their 22 and do we have a better understanding of which prop seems to work best for sport type flying?

Thanks

Daled

16x8 JXF/XOAR seems to be really good for this engine.
17x6APC is also great but not as much performance as the 16x8

If there is still a question I contacted a distributor and got them to confirm it HAS a NEEDLE BEARING supported connecting rod, and should be run at 50:1.

The 22 I have seems to run smooth enough, I am not sure the soft mount is necessary.

I love my O.S. 120 2 stroke but the Mintor total weight (eng, muf, ign)  plus an estimated battery weight of 4 oz comes to 32.4 oz, the OS total weight is 37 oz. I get to drop weight and go gas. This engine is starting to look like a no brainer.

Why do you need the 4 oz battery?

I have put a 1200mha NiCd on a food scale, and it was 3.7 oz. I like to round up for weight calculations.

The soft mount is not needed, just another way to mount the engine to run it. I will not need them if I place the engine on a profile.  A flat firewall is needed for the soft mount, and I had them already ! Will test run the engine just a little on a test set-up.  I have no airplane for it now anyway.   Capt,n
