Status: offline 		Not being one to go back on my word, I am sorry to say I am once again attacking a FG wing mold for the AR-6. After learning that my foam core wing construction skills leave much to be desired, I figure a CNC plug and FG mold are the only solution. As Kevin posted above, he did some really top notch CNC plugs out of MDF that I will be finishing and make the mold from. This will ensure a straight and true finished product.

Because the steps used are no different than what I've previously posted, I will not bore you all with the filling, sanding, priming, sanding etc and will just show the finished product. Hopefully, without bullet holes this time

Status: offline 		Lee, just de-molded my first Frekote mold, and all I can say is WOW! It was 10 times easier to release the plug than Partall & PVA ever were. Not to mention, it only took 1 hour to go from polishing the plugs, to laying down the surface coat for the mold. If you haven't started with the wax, I suggest you get a quart of Frekote FMS mold sealer and a quart of 770-NC release. If you want to use the wax & PVA for part production after you pull the molds, you can use the Frekote mold stripper and then apply the wax & PVA.

Just thought you might want to know!

Status: offline 		Well, I am sorry to hear that Kevin. I used the mold sealer, followed by the release (3 coats of each, 10 minutes apart and wiping off before it dries) and it worked flawlessly for me. I know It only has a 6 month (or less, if you don't keep it airtight and room temperature) shelf life once opened. You also have to use a catalyzed 2K paint (I used an AU automotive from Napa) for best results. I know some resins & paints have compatibility issues with certain releases, so that might have been what happened to you.

I did some sample lay ups prior to risking my plugs, so I was sure it would work with my components. I also laid up some flat panels (identical to the mold surface) so that I can test paint/resin compatibility prior to putting it into my molds. I broke my last quickie fuselage mold by using a resin/paint combination that went thru Partall #2 wax & PVA #10.
